Sixteen chapters in and only TWO things in the summary has occurred: Main character has entered the game, and then created a female character himself.
In game, he accepted a ritual to become a full dragon which DID convert his female character into… a female character. No word yet on what happened to his real life body, and his real life buddy hasn’t re-entered the game to find him.
There has been NO romance to speak of in the game (only s*xual harassment from a female dragon), and NO romance at all in real life (since he can’t leave the game, therefore he can’t leave his pod, his buddy has completely disappeared, and his parents think he’s now a vegetable).
That’s not to say it’s a boring read, but we’re already dealing with other world politics and even a Shadowy Sinister Conspiracy Of Stealthy Scoundrels (TM), which all seems a bit early, and so far NO Villainous Boss (TM) role, NO romance online, and NO romance offline. Nor is there any explanation why anyone would WANT to romance a villainous boss person instead of, you know, KILLING THEM.
The author has made some rather odd choices in their planning.
So the last line in the summary is a lie
The “villainous boss romance” element is likely a long-term arc, introduced much later. For now, the focus is on leveling, survival, and PvP conflict.
Yeah, I get what you mean. Sixteen chapters in and the pacing feels skewed, big setup (game entry, character creation, dragon ritual), but not much payoff yet in terms of the “promised” themes. The lack of real-world follow-up on his body is especially noticeable, and the sudden shift into politics/conspiracies does feel like skipping ahead.
I’m also curious how (or if) the Villainous Boss angle will actually show up, because right now it feels like a totally different novel. Maybe the author is playing the long game, but the marketing definitely gave off a different expectation.
