[You have been randomly teleported to the outskirts of Dragon Island – Southeastern Region.]
Dragon Island.
Just the name alone sounded incredibly badass. In most games, web novels, and other entertainment media, dragons were usually portrayed as high-tier, powerful beings—and Eternity was no exception.
Looking at the map, Dragon Island was located in the northeastern corner of the Eternity world, boasting a vast area of nearly two million square kilometers. To compare it to Earth, it was only slightly smaller than the planet’s largest island, Greenland.
An area that massive naturally held an overwhelming amount of detail.
Trying to fit it all on one map would be an impossible task. So, the outskirts of Dragon Island weren’t a standalone map—instead, they were divided into eight regions by compass direction, all encircling the island’s central zone.
Once the system had determined Dragon Island’s outskirts as Lu Qiuchen’s “starter village,” it had helpfully unlocked all eight regional maps.
As for the island’s center, it was a massive plateau of nearly 200,000 square kilometers.
At the very heart of it stood Longmai Peak, a towering spire piercing the clouds—revered as the tallest mountain on the entire continent.
*****
Lu Qiuchen had only just arrived at the outskirts of Dragon Island.
Before she could adjust to her brand-new body—or recover from the dizziness of teleportation—she was already stunned by what lay before her.
It wasn’t that the scenery was particularly magical or breathtaking.
It was the realism of it all that left her speechless—so close to the real world it was unsettling.
The system’s default immersion level was fixed at 10%, unchangeable.
That 10% only applied to negative sensations—like dizziness, pain, or fatigue—while the player’s five senses were left fully intact.
Lu Qiuchen eagerly rubbed her hands together, curiosity brimming as she carefully examined her new body from a first-person perspective.
Earlier, she had finally given in to her own niche preferences and deliberately set her avatar’s height to just 168 centimeters—not much different from her real-world stature.
The only real change was that when she stood upright and looked down… she could no longer see her feet.
A complicated mix of excitement and curiosity lit up her face as she reached forward with both hands…
“Damn it. I don’t feel anything.” Her expression instantly soured.
The moment her hands touched her own body, a glaring red prompt appeared in her lower field of vision:
[The gender you selected does not match your original biological sex. Sensory feedback for sensitive areas has been disabled.]
“What the hell, System?! What gives you the right to assume my gender?! My physical sex may be male, but my psychological gender is female! I demand tactile access!”
Lu Qiuchen grumbled in her mind, half-joking—
But to her shock, a new message appeared right away:
[Request received. Your gender has been changed to Intersex. Would you like to update your character profile?]
…???
“ROOOAAAR—!!”
Before her brain could even begin to process what was happening, a deafening roar echoed from the distance.
Lu Qiuchen stiffened in alarm and whipped her head toward the source of the sound—
But the massive, densely packed trees around her blocked most of her view.
All she could see was a flock of unidentified birds erupting from the forest canopy in the far distance.
“Crap. That didn’t sound like something I want to mess with.”
She didn’t have time to care about her gender settings anymore.
This was Dragon Island, after all—and right now, she was just a Lv.1 weakling without a single weapon.
She needed to get the hell out of here.
Fast.
But unfortunately, Lu Qiuchen’s random teleportation landed him near the edge of the island.
On the right stretched an endless plain, and thanks to his excellent vision (game-enhanced), he could faintly see a mountain shrouded in clouds—that must be Dragonvein Peak.
Far behind him lay a forest, and the roar from earlier had come from there. The back-left direction was also forested, merging with the one behind in the distance, but this forest was denser and taller, dark and oppressive enough to make one uneasy.
Checking the map again, he saw that just ahead was the ocean, and the coastline appeared to be a towering cliff. With no other choice, he decided to head left into the woods!
Just as Lu Qiuchen was about to turn and enter the forest, he saw a massive creature take flight from the woods to his back-left, soaring rapidly toward the distant mountain.
Judging by its trajectory, it looked like it would pass right over where Lu Qiuchen was standing.
As the distance between them closed, Lu Qiuchen got a better look at the creature. Unlike the typical dragons in Western fantasy, this one resembled an extinct pterosaur from Earth.
Compared to Western dragons, it had a much wider wingspan and a smaller body, seeming better suited for gliding than true flight. But more striking than its appearance was the deep red name floating above its head.
LV55 Wyvern.
Since this was Lu Qiuchen’s first encounter with the monster, the system helpfully provided a tooltip:
Wyverns are a subspecies of dragons, entirely red, possessing only two legs and no foreclaws. Their tails are lined with vicious barbs, which are highly venomous. Wyverns are aggressive and highly dangerous.
However, this particular wyvern had visible damage to the membrane of its right wing, and several bowl-sized holes in its lower body. Blood dripped from it as it flew, yet its flight performance didn’t seem impaired.
Lu Qiuchen paused, watching the beast fly overhead, and let out a breath of relief.
Even though it was just a game, having a creature with a wingspan of over ten meters and standing three meters tall charging at him was terrifying. Not to mention the massive level gap between them.
Suddenly, his field of view tilted.
A huge shadow loomed over him, and a sharp gust of wind howled past his ears. Lu Qiuchen turned in alarm—only to see his clothes being firmly snagged by the wyvern’s talons. It had looped back and snatched him midair.
For a moment, fury overwhelmed his fear. This damn beast was toying with him—like a cat playing with a mouse. He hated being treated as amusement, yet could do nothing about it.
The scenery around him blurred as they rapidly soared through the sky. Then, out of nowhere, a white flash shot through the forest below, moving so fast that Lu Qiuchen could barely track it.
The wyvern noticed it too late to dodge and tried to shift its body—only to take the full blow on its left wing.
With a shriek of agony, the wyvern’s left wing was nearly torn apart, and it plummeted toward the ground with Lu Qiuchen still in its grip.
Midair, the wyvern lost its hold, and Lu Qiuchen was flung away. Luckily, they weren’t too high up. He landed hard but rolled across the thick grass, cushioning the fall.
The impact left him dizzy and disoriented. Relying on his half-dragon physique and the system’s damage protection, he managed to stagger to his feet, only to realize his health bar had been reduced to a sliver.
He shuddered at how close he’d come to death.
Turning to look behind him, he saw the wyvern sprawled on the ground, its left wing completely broken.
The surrounding grass was stained crimson. The beast lay unmoving, unconscious—clearly heavily injured by that sudden attack.
Before he could gather his thoughts, a black speck appeared in the eastern sky, accompanied by a distant roar.
Meanwhile, at the spot where the white flash had emerged earlier, four men and one woman had just stepped out of the forest. Upon hearing the roar from afar, their expressions turned grim.
“A true dragon is coming.”
The leading man slung his longbow onto his back and said, “We’re retreating.”
“Judging from the roar, this dragon is still a juvenile. We still have a chance,” the woman holding a staff voiced a different opinion.
The man behind her spoke up, “Let’s listen to the captain, Phyllis. It’s better not to provoke a dragon.”
“That wyvern already paid the price. We’ve got enough materials. This is Dragon Island, after all—going deeper isn’t wise.”
The man addressed as captain turned his head and said, “Phyllis, I promise I’ll find you better alchemical materials in the future. It was just a drake, not worth risking a dragon’s wrath.”
“I was just letting off steam. That damn dragon—ruined all my alchemy supplies,” Phyllis pouted, though a sly glint flashed in her eyes.
“But Captain, you said it—you’re going to get me something even better later.”
“You little money-grubber. Do you know how rare materials of that level are? If this wyvern hadn’t gone berserk and tried to attack the city, even a drake like that wouldn’t be ours to hunt freely.”
“Not my problem. You promised, so you better deliver!”
As their voices faded into the distance, the forest gradually swallowed all traces of their presence. Silence returned to the surroundings.
*****
The silhouette of the dragon grew rapidly larger in the sky and soon descended before Lu Qiuchen.
A massive blue dragon, over 6 meters long and 4 meters tall, landed before her, creating a stark contrast with Lu Qiuchen’s petite, sub-1.7-meter half-dragon figure.
Lu Qiuchen stood frozen, staring blankly at the blue dragon now in front of her. They were no more than 3 meters apart—so close that she had to crane her neck up just to meet its eyes.
She could feel the dragon’s breath huffing against her face, but didn’t dare move a muscle—
A creature this size… one swipe and she’d be sent straight to respawn.
The two stared at each other for a brief moment. Then, perhaps sensing Lu Qiuchen’s discomfort, the dragon let out a low growl.
A white light enveloped it, and its form swiftly shrank. When the glow faded, the icy-blue dragon had transformed—
Now standing there was a dragon girl, bearing a noticeable resemblance to Lu Qiuchen.
Unlike the short, straight little horn on top of Lu Qiuchen’s head, the humanoid dragon girl’s horns curved slightly backward and were noticeably longer.
Her skin was wrapped in a white, leathery material that covered her from the neck down, outlining a graceful figure.
Over this were patterned blue scales that protected vital areas and joints. Her light-blue, shoulder-length hair draped down her back and fluttered gently in the mountain breeze. Her delicate face paired with a cool, aloof expression gave off a striking charm, but not one that felt overly cold or distant.
“You’re… a half-dragon?”
A faintly cool voice drifted over, and a trace of curiosity flashed in the dragon girl’s eyes.
“Ah… yes.”
Snapping out of his daze, Lu Qiuchen responded with a string of unfamiliar syllables. This was his first time speaking in the game.
Though the language the girl used was foreign to him, he could understand it effortlessly and respond just as naturally.
To be honest, in just a few short hours of playing Eternity, he had already been shocked multiple times.
But could you really blame him?
Dragons were just way too cool! That overwhelming presence, the sheer impact of their massive size—it was absolutely breathtaking!
As for this latest surprise…
Lu Qiuchen could only say: so it is possible to be sexy without being vulgar!
“It’s my first time seeing a half-dragon. You look quite a bit like my avatar,” the dragon girl said as she circled around Lu Qiuchen, sizing him up from head to toe.
Lu Qiuchen felt a little awkward, and also a little off. The girl in front of him didn’t feel like a regular NPC—her movements were fluid and natural. In fact, she was the first human-like being he had encountered in the game.
Well, humanoid.
This game… even the NPCs are this realistic? That’s insane.
