A red dragon currently on duty at the Elder Council circled high in the sky.
Seeing Impat surrounded by young dragons on the ground, it called out loudly to him.
“Impat, Lord Odyn requests your presence at the Elder Council. Oh? You’re playing with these younglings? That’s quite surprising.”
Hearing the voice, all the young dragons lifted their heads to look at the unexpected visitor in the sky.
Impat, upon learning that Odyn was calling for him, immediately announced the end of today’s trial and then asked, “Tuile, what does Odyn want with me?”
“That, I don’t know. But it seems to be related to that little dragon of your clan. Oh, and Lord Odyn told you to hurry.” the red dragon replied.
“Something about Cecilia? I’m coming right away.” Impat was puzzled. That little troublemaker really never gave them peace. They had only just parted ways, and now she had stirred up something serious enough to summon Odyn?
“The message has been delivered. I have other matters to attend to, so I’ll be going now.” The red dragon was efficient, spreading its wings and flying off, soon disappearing from sight.
Hearing the trial was over, the young dragons dispersed in disappointment. Zhang Cheng, overhearing the conversation and suspecting it might involve Lu Qiuchen, grew anxious.
Could something have happened?
It wasn’t that he didn’t want things to go well for Lu Qiuchen, but if the Dragon King of a clan was urgently summoned, it was surely not a trivial matter.
It was like a teacher on Earth calling a student’s parents to school—usually not a good sign.
If it was good news, there’d be no need to worry; if bad, there’d be no escaping it. He hoped his guess was wrong.
Although Zhang Cheng knew this was not something he could get involved in, since it concerned Lu Qiuchen, he still held onto a sliver of hope and mustered the courage to ask Impat, “Can I go with you?”
Just as he expected, Impat shook his head and refused.
“Without Odyn’s permission, outsiders are not allowed near the Elder Council. You can rest assured, though. Tuile’s expression just now showed no abnormalities, so it’s probably nothing serious. I’ll escort you back.”
After teleporting Zhang Cheng back to his own lair, Impat reminded him, “You’ve passed your trial for now, so stay here and wait. If I and Cecilia don’t return for a long time, then you should climb the mountain and find the other silver dragons. I’ve left my aura on you, so they won’t harm you.”
After Impat left, the vast space, as large as a stadium, was left empty with only Zhang Cheng remaining.
He looked around the empty expanse and grew increasingly worried about Lu Qiuchen.
His mind was restless and chaotic. Losing the desire to practice skills or level up, he walked to the edge of the lair to look out at the snowy scene.
Unlike the icy palace he had glimpsed on the mountainside earlier, Impat’s dragon lair was carved directly into a steep cliff, resembling a traditional Western dragon’s den.
Zhang Cheng stood alone at the high vantage point, looking down on the thick clouds enveloping the mountainside.
Listening to the howling wind, his thoughts gradually calmed, and the worries that had weighed on his heart vanished.
These days, he had been so busy with various matters that he hadn’t had time to reflect.
With his mind now clear, Zhang Cheng recalled a doubt that had lingered silently in his heart for a long time.
Since arriving in this world, he had always stayed by Lu Qiuchen’s side; everything revolved around him.
Lu Qiuchen was constantly running about because of the Sky Fragment, and it all began with Lai’s contract.
But looking back on this journey, apart from the initial contract with Lu Qiuchen that saved his life, Zhang Cheng’s presence seemed largely irrelevant—if not a burden—most of the time.
“Did Mom send me to this world just to accompany Lu Qiuchen in completing Lai’s task?” Zhang Cheng murmured.
He knew that couldn’t be the whole story, yet he clung to a faint hope.
Might as well ask Lai directly. With that thought, Zhang Cheng contacted Lai in his heart and voiced the long-buried question.
“My parents told me to input a code in the game to reach you, but besides that, they gave me no other clues. They just left me like this, seemingly only to help Lu Qiuchen. But I feel it can’t be that simple. What’s their real purpose?”
Lai’s voice soon echoed in Zhang Cheng’s mind.
“You’re only realizing this now? I thought you’d ask me from the very beginning.”
Zhang Cheng felt a bit embarrassed. “I was too emotional back then, knew nothing about this place, and thought you wouldn’t tell me.”
Lai ignored his words and continued, “Your suspicion is reasonable because I thought the same. Although I control this Spirit Realm and can access most information, I’m not omniscient. I don’t know much about Earth matters.”
“All I can tell you is that our cooperation aims to control Eternal Corporation. The relationships between various forces in the Eternal World are complex, all somehow connected to Eternal Corporation. Beyond that, I can’t reveal more—you’ll have to figure it out yourself.”
“By the way, I have to thank you. Your parents brought me many benefits by sending you here. They’ve invested a lot in you, which isn’t a trivial move. In the future, there will definitely be tasks for you and your little girlfriend to accomplish, and those tasks may be critical.”
“But if those tasks fall outside our contract, I won’t help. Then, you’ll have to rely on yourselves.”
Zhang Cheng wanted to argue about Lu Qiuchen’s identity, but Lai cut him off.
“Enough. Let’s end this topic here. Someone will be coming soon. I can’t stay too long. Come back when you have news related to the Sky Fragment.”
Their conversation ended there. Although Lai hadn’t revealed many details, the information he shared gave Zhang Cheng much to ponder.
The reason he had been brought here was likely because a faction opposing Lu Qiuchen within the corporation needed him.
He himself was just an extra, or perhaps a safety leash controlling Lu Qiuchen.
If that were true, Zhang Cheng couldn’t accept being used like this.
He would judge everything by his own standards.
Just as this thought crossed his mind, he saw Impat’s figure reappear in the dragon lair.
This coincided with Lai’s words before leaving—it seemed Lai truly could monitor even legendary peak-tier experts.
Having such a terrifying presence constantly watching every living being in the world was unsettling.
Impat’s voice rang out, “Childers, come with me quickly to meet Lord Odyn!”
Zhang Cheng was confused by Impat’s sudden change in attitude—how had things turned around so fast?
But Impat’s next words stunned him.
“Cecilia has fallen into a deep sleep due to a curse. We need your help.”
