After finishing lunch, Lin Xinyuan hurriedly took a sip of water, eager to call Qin Nanfeng to play games.
After all, these chances were rare—he hadn’t played this game since the last time!
A little after twelve, the others came back from playing basketball, and the dormitory instantly became lively again.
They played games all the way until after three in the afternoon, finally stopping only because Qin Nanfeng said he wanted to get into bed and rest, claiming he hadn’t slept much yesterday.
This…
Hearing that, Lin Xinyuan felt the urge to hit him again; to him, it was nothing but showing off.
He felt a bit helpless, but he could only save the game, still wanting more, and exit.
He’d slept enough in the morning, so he wasn’t sleepy at all now.
With plenty of time left, he decided on the spot to get on his computer and crank out a few more chapters for his novel, to stockpile some drafts and hit his readers with a big update when they started urging him for more.
The guys who’d come back from basketball took turns showering and then all went to bed to catch up on sleep.
He had to admit, these guys really could handle it.
Except for Old Fourth, the others had played games until midnight last night, and then got up early to play basketball.
Their bodies could really take it!
As for him, he just couldn’t do it…
As for why Lin Xinyuan didn’t curse them out for playing games so late, he said he was used to it.
He had earplugs anyway, and after he went to sleep, they switched to chatting by typing, all using red-switch keyboards.
Though there was still some noise… as long as you didn’t have insomnia, it wasn’t much of a problem.
Tapping away at the keyboard, time slipped by without him noticing, and by the time he looked up, it was already getting dark. He checked the time.
Whoa, it was already past seven in the evening.
After finishing the last chapter, he saw the others in the dorm getting out of bed one after another and getting ready, so he saved his draft and shut down the computer too.
Tonight, Chen Ze was treating, and the six of them were heading out for a big meal.
He changed his shoes, still wearing the same T-shirt and thin long pants.
He didn’t like wearing shorts outside, so he usually wore long pants.
He tied up the dormitory trash in a plastic bag and took it along to throw out on the way down.
By the time everyone in the dorm was ready to head out, it was just about eight o’clock.
Downstairs, passing the trash area, Lin Xinyuan tossed the bag of garbage.
Along the way, Chen Ze and the others chatted animatedly, while he only chimed in occasionally, or sometimes didn’t join their topics at all.
Lin Xinyuan joked to Chen Ze, “You better watch out, tonight I’m going to eat you broke!”
Chen Ze was generous, “I can’t afford Fuxi Restaurant, but barbecue—eat as much as you want, I can handle that.”
“Then let’s start with a thousand skewers!”
“Hey, hey, hey, if that’s the case, I’m out of here first!” Hearing this, Chen Ze’s expression changed and he acted like he was about to bolt, but no one stopped him, letting him run a few steps away.
“Go on, go on! I’ll send you the bill after I’m done eating!”
“Hahaha…”
Everyone else burst out laughing.
Fine!
Chen Ze could only walk quickly back to the group, then grinned slyly, “Hey, just to be clear, if I really don’t have enough money and get stuck washing dishes, I’m leaving it to Boss Qin?”
At that, Qin Nanfeng shot him a glance, “If you get stuck tonight, I’m not bailing you out. Besides, even Boss would probably dislike having you wash dishes; you should be sent straight to the police station and let Uncle Hat give you a good lesson.”
Qin Nanfeng’s words made everyone else burst out laughing.
Old Third really never held back when roasting people, and what made it funnier was that he’d mix in several dialects as he spoke.
His mind was quick, his tongue even quicker—before anyone could get a word in, he’d already cursed out eighteen generations of your ancestors…
So, Chen Ze didn’t dare argue.
When it came to verbal sparring, he was decent, but still a notch below Qin Nanfeng.
Hmph… Tongue-wagging is not worth fighting over anyway…
Of course, everyone knew it was all just in good fun.
Chen Ze was a bit quirky, but his family was well-off.
He could afford places like Fuxi Restaurant, where a meal started at five or six hundred, but no one ever wanted to go there.
After more than a year together, everyone in the dorm knew each other’s family backgrounds.
Qin Nanfeng needed no explanation, and Old Fourth Wen Yuanshan and Old Fifth Chen Ze were also from well-off families.
As for Old First Xiong Wei and Old Second Xu Wentao, their families were just average, and Lin Xinyuan’s was even more so.
If the gap was too wide, even if the person didn’t care, the others would feel uncomfortable.
That’s why barbecue stalls, where you could eat well for thirty or forty yuan each, were a much better value than Fuxi Restaurant, where you’d spend a hundred each and barely get any dishes.
Chatting as they walked, they exited the school’s South Gate, and before long, they arrived at the barbecue stalls on South Street.
It was Saturday, and except for a few majors, most had no classes. South Street was fairly busy, but not crowded, nowhere near as lively as North Gate Snack Street.
During the day, South Street was mostly restaurants, but at night, small vendors set up food stalls and barbecue stands. The security here didn’t bother with it, so over time, things got even rowdier.
Usually, the people who came here were students from Tianbei University and nearby colleges, along with a few locals.
“Yo, you’re here.”
The barbecue stall had just opened for the evening, with only one or two tables of customers.
The Boss was free and greeted the six of them with a smile.
“How’s business lately, Boss?” Qin Nanfeng spoke first, sounding like an old regular.
“Eh, same as always. Business is still okay before it gets cold, but once winter comes, there’s nothing to do!”
The Boss chatted while grilling, mostly with Qin Nanfeng.
Lin Xinyuan listened from the side, and though he didn’t want to admit it, he was really envious of Qin Nanfeng. Besides being handsome and wealthy, the guy had the kind of social skills that made him popular everywhere.
That was something he could never do.
“You guys go sit over there. It’s hot tonight, but it’s breezy over there. Grab a table from against the wall.”
The Boss pointed to a spot, flipping over some chicken wings as the oil dripped onto the charcoal with a sizzle.
Just then, the Boss Lady who was tallying up the accounts called out:
“A-Zhen, go take Qin boy and his friends’ order!”
The Boss Lady looked up and finally noticed Lin Xinyuan and the others had arrived.
When she saw Qin Nanfeng, her smile grew even brighter.
“Hey, Xiao Qin, you all are here! Go grab a seat! I’ll bring the order book over.”
The Boss glanced at his wife’s chrysanthemum-like smile and shook his head, knowing she still hadn’t given up on matchmaking their daughter and Qin Nanfeng.
He let her be, though—he didn’t think it was possible anyway.
The Boss had seen plenty in his youth and was experienced.
From the first time he saw Qin Nanfeng, he could tell from his manner that his family was either rich or powerful.
“Alright, we’ll go sit first.”
They all went to the spot the Boss pointed out. It was indeed breezy there, and the light wind made everyone feel a bit cooler.
Old First easily dragged out a square table from the corner and put it together with another, since one little table wouldn’t fit six big guys.
With the tables set, Lin Xinyuan and Xu Wentao fetched two red plastic stools.
With the original four, there were just enough for six.
“Alright, here you go, Xiao Qin! Take your time with the menu. Call me when you’re ready!”
The Boss Lady enthusiastically brought over a notebook and menu, then left.
The five of them exchanged glances and all looked at Qin Nanfeng, unable to help feeling helpless.
Chen Ze was the most indignant: “Hey, I’m the one treating tonight, but every time it feels like Old Third is treating us instead! How is he always the main character? I don’t accept this!”
The others nodded in agreement, all looking a bit disgruntled.
Qin Nanfeng just spread his hands, tilted his head, and put on that infuriating look and tone:
“Sorry, brothers! When you’re good-looking, you can do whatever you want. My charm overflows everywhere—just a little spill is enough for you guys to drink for a lifetime.”
“Have some shame!”
“I can’t believe you!”
“What a born slickster…”
“……”
Everyone complained, but deep down, they all had to admit that Qin Nanfeng was just too popular.
On the side, Lin Xinyuan’s gaze was hidden and shadowed, silently watching it all, his eyes a little dark…
