This barbecue dinner lasted over three hours for the six dorm mates, chatting as they ate, and only wrapped up close to midnight.
Barbecues usually come with drinking, but Lin Xinyuan was a total lightweight—two bottles of beer and he’d be drunk, and he wasn’t a fan of this horse-pee tasting stuff anyway.
He only drank a single can before he was already feeling dizzy.
His mind felt like waves crashing and clouds swirling, as if he could transform into Elder Seven of the Beggar Gang, swinging his Dog Beating Staff all the way, beating the hell out of that filthy yellow-haired guy until he cried for mercy…
Compared to Lin Xinyuan, the others weren’t much better off—they’d gone through more than two cases in total, with empty cans piled up under the table.
Xiong Wei and the rest were all a bit tipsy, but Qin Nan Feng, who drank the most, didn’t even break a sweat—his face wasn’t red, his heartbeat steady.
During the meal, the conversation jumped all over the place, from astronomy and geography to gossip about so-and-so from the neighboring class getting caught doing god-knows-what.
Once everyone was full and warm, the talk inevitably shifted to things between men and women, and Qin Nan Feng naturally became the topic of conversation.
Alcohol loosens tongues, and Chen Ze, the resident gossip, was the first to fire off: “Hey, President Qin! How’s it going with that new girlfriend of yours? I heard her name is something Xue…”
“Li Xue, right? Seems so,” Xu Wentao added.
“Yeah, yeah, Li Xue. Hey, President Qin, you’re about to swap again, aren’t you? I remember your longest was the President of the Literature Club, Lin Shiyu, right? That lasted less than two weeks before you broke up.”
Xu Wentao chimed in again, “To be exact, it was one week and four days.”
The two kept volleying back and forth. Lin Xinyuan and the others didn’t join in, just listened quietly. Xiong Wei even shook his head at Qin Nan Feng, signaling that the two were drunk and had lost all inhibitions.
Qin Nan Feng just smiled, acting unconcerned, and truthfully, he really didn’t care.
This obviously wasn’t the first time they’d talked about this, but this time Qin Nan Feng actually answered Chen Ze’s question head-on:
“It’s whatever, same as always. To be honest, it’s all pretty fake. These people, just for fun, no need to get serious.”
Everyone was stunned—Old Three had always been more subtle before, but now he’d said it outright, which was a real surprise.
Unlike the others, Lin Xinyuan was a bit out of it at first, but when he heard Qin Nan Feng’s words, a wave of outrage and sorrow surged up inside him.
After all, something he cherished and protected so carefully was treated so roughly by someone else, then tossed aside like a worn-out shoe—who wouldn’t feel bad?
And to say it right to his face… Lin Xinyuan, already unhappy, felt a little spark ignite inside him, fueled by alcohol.
He forced himself to suppress his irritation, unconsciously crushing the empty beer can in his hand into an hourglass shape, only realizing it after, and quietly tossed it at his feet…
The scales in his heart finally tipped over, and he made up his mind—he was going to get revenge.
He had to get back at that damn yellow-haired guy!
Hearing Qin Nan Feng’s words, Chen Ze grew even bolder and immediately wailed:
“President Qin, how are us single dogs supposed to live after hearing that? You know what they say—don’t miss out on good girls, don’t waste bad ones! Hey, how about introducing some to your bros… hehehe!”
“Same here.” Xu Wentao’s face was just as lecherous.
Watching Chen and Xu act like two sneaky conspirators, Lin Xinyuan and the other three didn’t chime in.
Oldest, Xiong Wei, already had a girlfriend—Lin Xinyuan heard she was a younger student from a neighboring college, and apparently, they were even from the same village, childhood sweethearts, so he didn’t join the topic.
Fourth, Wen Yuanshan, was simple—he wasn’t interested in real-life girls for now, so he didn’t get involved in these kinds of talks.
As for Lin Xinyuan, he was busy thinking about his own plan, plotting how to teach Qin Nan Feng a lesson…
Qin Nan Feng shook his head, “I don’t think you two could handle them.” As he spoke, he glanced at Lin Xinyuan, who was quietly eating his barbecue, then quickly looked away and continued, “But if you want to try, I’ll send you a few. It’s all up to you—just don’t take it seriously…”
He put a slight emphasis on the words “take it seriously,” but Lin Xinyuan clearly wasn’t listening.
“Sure, sure, thanks, President Qin! We’ll just give it a shot—no guarantee we’ll succeed! But if we do, that’d be awesome~”
Qin Nan Feng figured they weren’t listening anyway. He didn’t think the two could handle those girls, but he still sent them a few green bubbles.
Maybe they’d learn a lesson—some people you can only look at and play with, but never give your heart to…
“This chick’s hot! Great figure too.”
“Oh, and this one—isn’t she the Class Flower of Accounting Class 2 of the School of Management? Though I have no idea where that ‘Class Flower’ title even came from…”
“Yours isn’t as good as mine—pure little white flower, you can tell she’s innocent at a glance~ Love it, love it!”
“Damn, seriously! But girls like that usually have a wild side. Leave her to me!”
“No way, if I give her to you, what about me? I like the wild ones!”
“Hey, you don’t even know if you can get her, and you’re already being possessive! Give her here! Let me have a look!”
“Nooo~ Don’t wanna~”
Watching the two of them bicker, Qin Nan Feng was speechless and turned his gaze to the others.
Of course, “others” really just meant Lin Xinyuan.
Lin Xinyuan seemed to notice his gaze and looked up. As expected, a shadow flashed in his eyes before quickly disappearing, his expression a bit complicated:
“What are you looking at… not interested…”
He finished, then lowered his head to take another bite of grilled chicken wing.
“Yeah, don’t drag Old Six into this, Old Three.” Xiong Wei probably understood the reason, but clearly wasn’t happy with Qin Nan Feng’s approach, so he spoke up at the right moment.
Those two self-proclaimed brothers were one thing—a little lesson wouldn’t hurt—but he knew Old Six’s personality, too shy and too simple-minded, so he couldn’t let him get caught up in this.
“Alrighty!”
Qin Nan Feng had expected this and didn’t say anything more.
After they finished, Chen Ze went to pay the bill, and the six of them headed back to the dorm.
No one was blackout drunk, everyone was pretty restrained, so their walk was steady.
It was close to midnight, and there were few students left out eating and drinking on South Street—mostly just office workers now.
As they walked along the road, the night wind was strong, whistling past and making everyone feel much more refreshed.
Lin Xinyuan followed behind his roommates, feeling a bit bored as he looked at the shops lining the street, the various neon signs blurring before his eyes.
He told himself he didn’t care about the Li Xue thing, but honestly, even he didn’t believe it…
He thought he could be like the protagonist in his own novel, but in the end, it was just wishful thinking.
When it came to Li Xue, his first love, Lin Xinyuan didn’t want to think badly of her.
Even though they hadn’t been together long, and hadn’t done anything too intimate, she still made him feel like he existed.
He’d thought he’d done well enough…
Spent so much time and effort, cared for her in every way…
And still, they broke up…
How ridiculous…
Suddenly, Lin Xinyuan thought of Qin Nan Feng—someone like him, so outstanding, and even though everyone at school knew how much of a player he was, so what?
Girls still lined up to throw themselves at him. Everyone was like that—even Li Xue.
He knew it wasn’t Qin Nan Feng’s fault.
But he still felt unwilling, maybe because Li Xue had always seemed so perfect in front of him.
So now he felt a rebellious urge.
After all, in his heart, how could Xue’er possibly be that easy…
There had to be a reason.
He had to expose his true face, let everyone see!
He also wanted him to know just how disgusting it was to deceive others’ feelings, to make him taste what it felt like to be hurt!
Qin Nan Feng…
If I don’t get revenge, I’m not a man. Just you wait!
That’s what Lin Xinyuan thought, staring at the tall figure walking ahead, gritting his teeth so hard they made a grinding sound.
