The “demon” standing before them wasn’t ugly in the slightest.
Seeing Truth’s appearance, all the hunters around momentarily froze, their freshly drawn weapons instinctively turning aside, afraid of frightening this pitiable little girl who looked like a fairy from the mortal world.
If they were to describe Truth’s looks, the only word that came to mind was “adorable.”
Actually… pretty adorable, Rachel thought in disbelief as she stared at Truth.
Her appearance was completely different from what she had imagined, and it took several seconds before she could barely manage a few words:
“Heh… heh! You demon sure know how to beguile people, but we’ve had professional training, so we’re definitely not falling for that!”
That’s right! The hunters around her snapped back to alertness, raising their guard once more. Maybe the demon was trying to use that cute appearance to deceive them?
They almost got tricked!
“I’m the saintess of this city,” Truth tilted her head and replied simply, not denying she was a demon.
“You’re a saintess now? You really think I’d believe a tiny border city like this would have a saintess? Besides, I’ve never seen a saintess go out wearing a hood, hiding her face like that!”
Rachel felt that Truth was looking down on her, daring to use such a cheap excuse to brush her off. Did this girl think being a saintess was something so common it was worthless?
“Because I’m cute, and that makes me an easy target for bad people.”
“You…”
Rachel was momentarily at a loss for words in response to Truth’s answer. She could only turn her face away slightly and snort.
Hmph, not wasting any more time on this girl. Cute or not, she’s still allied with demons, right? Even if she isn’t a demon herself, she’s had close contact with them!
Without hesitation, golden light burst from Rachel’s eyes!
Her innate scouting skill, “Eye of Atonement,” could see through any recent sins a person had committed — be it theft, robbery, murder…
Come on, you pretender, let me examine all the sins you’ve committed recently!
In an instant, Rachel saw Truth’s body covered in blood, creating a sharp contrast with her adorable exterior.
As expected! Rachel gritted her teeth fiercely. This person was as sinful as she thought!
She saw the moment Truth committed a crime—it was brutally cruel, utterly unforgivable, insane! But now there was a problem: she couldn’t see what exactly the sin was.
That was strange. This had never happened before. Was her proud skill failing? Rachel cautiously scrutinized Truth’s entire body again…
Truth simply looked at Rachel with curious eyes. So, it was the Eye of Atonement. She hadn’t expected a native of this otherworld to awaken some of the player’s initial innate skills. Interesting.
The girl with twin tails was probably wondering why Rachel couldn’t see any sin she had committed.
After all, it was demon Truth who committed the murders, not priest Truth, so it was impossible to tell. They just happened to share the same body. Truth chuckled and shrugged.
Then Rachel felt mocked again, clenching her teeth in frustration:
“You must be using some kind of Sin-Concealment skill to hide your crimes. Don’t think I don’t know! And do you think that’ll work? I only need to know you’re guilty.”
“Let me tell you, I have plenty of ways to make you confess all the sins you’ve committed!”
Sin-Concealment? I haven’t used that at all, because as long as the Eye of Atonement checks me face to face, whether I use Sin-Concealment or not makes no difference.
Think about it: if you don’t use it, your sins will be revealed; if you do, it only means you have something to hide. Either way, you get caught.
Now, what to do about this twin-tailed girl next… kill her outright? Seems risky. I was just brought away in broad daylight. If these guards suddenly died, suspicion would fall on me.
Looks like I’ll need backup:
“I really am the saintess, just haven’t undergone the Divine Selection ceremony yet. The High Priest of Deya City can vouch for me.”…
More than ten minutes later, Tia hurried into the armory after hearing news that Truth had been captured by the guards:
“The High Priest is here! Who dares to disrespect the saintess!”
At that moment, Rachel’s eyes gleamed with golden light as she shouted:
“Put her in irons!”
“Clank!” Tia’s hands were immediately locked in iron shackles.
“Eh?!”
“She actually dared to show up on her own. Hmph, I didn’t expect the High Priest of Deya City to be the kind who likes to poison people behind their backs.”
Rachel’s eyes, no longer glowing, coldly stared at Tia with disdain.
As a mid-tier priest blessed by the goddess herself, saving lives should be her sacred duty, yet here she was secretly engaging in petty, underhanded schemes that shamed the goddess!
Since Tia had no knowledge of Sin-Concealment, Rachel could clearly see several scenes of her poisoning and disposing of bodies thanks to the Eye of Atonement, even discovering the bodies buried at the Misty Border.
“I… I don’t do poisoning! I don’t like poison!” Tia immediately wavered and tried to defend herself, but her nervous demeanor made her unconvincing.
Not good at lying, Truth watched Tia with some disbelief. She had forgotten that Tia had poisoned a noble before. Forget it, I’ll handle this myself:
“High Priest, can you arrest me too? As city guards, you shouldn’t even have that authority, right?”
Truth asked Rachel, who simply pulled out an Official Hunter Badge and hung it on her chest:
“Look carefully. I belong to the Demon Hunter Corps personally led by the goddess. Everything we do is authorized by her, and with her latest decree, I can now deal with demons however I see fit!”
The goddess’s latest decree? Truth’s interest piqued immediately, her face full of curiosity as she leaned closer to Rachel:
“That old hag… err, I mean the goddess, what’s this new decree about?”
Since Truth looked harmless, even as she suddenly moved close to Rachel, the other hunters barely reacted.
With the mithril shackles on her wrists and Rachel’s peak level two power, no hunter believed Truth could harm anyone.
So Truth shamelessly clung to Rachel, almost like she was acting cute.
“Hmph, trying to charm me? Not telling you!”
“Tell me, tell me!”
Feeling Truth’s sweet fragrance so close, Rachel stepped back shyly. Damn it, even at death’s door this demon still wants to tempt me for a last gamble?
Meanwhile, Tia watched Truth and Rachel in disbelief, inexplicably feeling a bit resentful. Truth hadn’t even tried to act cute toward her!
