Afternoon. The Church of the Life Goddess was now packed with worshippers.
Because someone had witnessed the Saintess here, word quickly spread from one to ten, ten to a hundred, and everyone came hoping to catch a glimpse of the Saintess’s graceful presence.
Yet, from noon until now, no one had seen her:
“The sun’s almost setting, why hasn’t the Saintess come out yet? Is she really inside the church?”
“Really! I saw High Priest Tia kneeling before her on the balcony this morning, bowing his head repeatedly while whispering something like ‘have mercy,’ then they went to the back of the church.”
“High Priest begging the Saintess for mercy? No way!” The worshippers began arguing among themselves, most thinking it impossible…
But it was true.
In the rest area at the back of the church, Tia had spent quite some effort trembling as she carefully cleaned Truth’s hair.
Truth was now quietly sitting on a wooden chair, dazed, one eye still blood-red.
“So adorable…”
Tia propped her chin in her hand, silently admiring the silver-haired, fluffy, petite Saintess who looked just like a doll.
Just looking at her made Tia feel like her lifespan had lengthened by a bit. Truly a sight for sore eyes — if only it weren’t for that one blood-colored eye…
Because the presence of the Hermit Lord was so overwhelming, when a drop of saliva fell on Truth’s hair, Tia felt as if she were already dead, so she immediately knelt down and begged for mercy.
But the Hermit Lord did not react. Truth was probably pleading on her behalf.
Besides, she must have come into contact with half of the Hermit Lord’s aura, right? How thrilling…
To make up for her fault, Tia had brought Truth to the rest area at the back of the church to clean her hair, and they stayed there the entire afternoon.
Damn it, I want to rush over and hold the Saintess tight, caressing her passionately! Tia thought, but she only dared to think it.
What was going on with the Hermit Lord making Truth daze out like this? How long was this going to last? I want to stroke little Truth’s hair more…
“Hmm… why are there suddenly low-rank demons spawning in the mist?” Truth suddenly looked up and muttered, startling Tia.
While repairing the mist, Truth had discovered several demons sneaking in among the adventurers. But they weren’t slaughtering everyone. Even when adventurers got separated, the demons didn’t attack—they just hid quietly.
What’s going on? Not killing, not robbing— Truth couldn’t understand why these suddenly appearing demons had slipped into her territory. She’d have to catch one and ask.
So Truth jumped down from the chair, intending to change out of the Priest Robe of the Saintess, as going out like this would be too conspicuous.
But just as she unbuttoned two buttons, she felt a burning gaze on her back. Turning around, she saw Tia staring intently.
“Go out.” Truth said coldly.
“Ugh…”
Before long, dressed in plain clothes and hooded, Truth quietly slipped out of the church, leaving Tia behind to deal with the frenzied worshippers…
At dusk, outside the city gates of Dea City, Rachel’s army swaggered to a halt. Before even disembarking, she caught a whiff of a foul stench:
“The scent of demons… and a lot of them!”
Rachel immediately began a sweep around the city gate, her keen nose sniffing continuously:
“A few demons headed toward the mist, but most slipped into the city… what audacity!”
What was happening? This was the first time Rachel had seen so many demons acting collectively.
She quickly ordered her subordinates to secretly coordinate with the city guards to avoid alerting the demons.
“Huh? More demon hunting?” The city guards were a bit annoyed but since the demon hunters outranked them by far, they just kept their heads down.
Just as the demon hunters disguised as city guards finished the handover, their Demon Hunting Tools suddenly beeped repeatedly:
“There’s a strong demonic aura. Among the people leaving the city, there’s either a demon or someone recently exposed to demons. Find them quickly!”
Not far away, Rachel clenched the Mithril Dagger at her waist, her upright Golden Eyes scanning the queue of people awaiting inspection.
“Found it, it’s that hooded dwarf!”
“Don’t scare it, try to lure it out!”…
In the line at the city gate, Truth was leisurely waiting for inspection, her mind on repairing the mist. The plants in the mist had almost fully regrown, no more bare patches.
Damn Female Lilir!
“Um, little friend, you just dropped your wallet, looks like it has ten gold coins inside.”
Suddenly, a female soldier disguised as a city guard bent down to Truth and spoke, drawing everyone’s attention.
Ten gold coins?! Which rich kid was trying to leave the city? Everyone gazed enviously at the hooded Truth, and Rachel clicked her tongue nearby.
Tsk, even demons need gold coins to corrupt people, so the “found wallet” trick is a tried-and-true method.
After all, ten gold coins aren’t something you pass up. If this dwarf nodded, they could “escort” her to retrieve the lost item.
Then, heh heh…
“Sorry, that wallet isn’t mine.”
Truth looked up, her pink eyes full of innocence, though her thoughts said the opposite:
Did she just call me little friend?!
“Huh?”
The crowd immediately stirred, sighing and lamenting. Why was this kid so honest? Was she even from Dea? Ten gold coins were no small change!
The demon hunter who tried to talk to her was momentarily stunned but thankfully had a backup:
“Could you come with us to confirm? Maybe it really is yours.”
“Fine, but you have to call me ‘Elder Sister’ first.”
“Uh…”
What kind of demand was that? This brat was barely chest height to me yet wanted me to call her ‘Elder Sister’?!
“Ahem!” Before the female demon hunter could respond, Rachel cleared her throat with a stern face, signaling her to comply quickly.
“Elder… Sister?” The demon hunter reluctantly agreed, and Truth grudgingly followed her toward the garrison’s Weapon Room.
Trying to lure me with ten gold coins? That’s seriously underestimating me. Plus, since I haven’t revealed my identity as the Saintess, I want to see who’s so eager to meet me.
As soon as they entered the Weapon Room, the demon hunter behind Truth immediately shut the door, plunging the room into dim light.
Before them stood a demon hunter girl in silver light armor, twin ponytails, watching Truth with great interest.
“Put your hands out. I’ll show you the wallet you ‘found.’”
Truth obediently stretched out both hands, but the next second, a pair of silver handcuffs instantly snapped around her wrists.
They were Mithril Handcuffs—magical tools designed to restrain demonic powers!
And their effect was obvious. These cuffs reduced all of Truth’s assassin stats by a full five points. Truly fitting as an anti-demon treasure!
Truth shook the handcuffs with a look of disdain. To think they dared use such low-level tools on me, they really underestimated me…
“Hmph! Show your ugly face, demon!” Rachel triumphantly swept back Truth’s hood.
Immediately, Truth’s slightly fluffy silver-white hair cascaded like silk. Her round, delicate face trembled slightly, her pink eyes flickering with a trace of bewilderment— and purity.
