“Gui, Guiyue, where did you go?”
In the darkness, my voice echoed through the entire corridor. The empty reverberation from ahead only made my already frightened self even more lost and unsettled.
Why did Guiyue suddenly disappear just like that?
Caught in panic, I still couldn’t calm down, but reason told me that Guiyue probably disappeared because of the bet just now. If she was scared, then that means I’ve fallen right into the trap.
Although I haven’t taken many steps forward yet, I could still turn back and quit.
But if I did that, it would count as my loss.
If I lose, I would have to serve as my little sister’s catgirl maid for the entire night.
There’s no way I want to do that!
So, I’ll just keep moving forward.
It’s just a haunted house after all. Besides… I’ve been through so many haunted houses before. Even if Guiyue’s not here this time, I can still get out on my own!
Ugh, it’s just… I don’t know why, but my legs feel like they’re stuck and won’t move.
I know it’s just props, but I still can’t help being scared—especially those skulls on both sides, lit up by the crimson lights. They’re truly terrifying.
But since it’s come to this, I can only grit my teeth and force myself to keep moving forward.
Just like this, slowly walk out of here.
But clearly, this thought is unrealistic…
Before I could take a few steps ahead, a soul-shattering roar came from beside me.
“Roar~ Waaah!”
That sound was like a man-eating demon. I trembled violently from fright but instinctively turned my head to look.
In the blood-red light, an adult zombie was standing there, hopping step by step toward me.
“Waaahhhhhh!!!”
Frightened, I let out a sharp scream. The zombie was diagonally in front of me, so I could only scramble backwards desperately.
Whether it was because of the bet or pride, all of that was thrown out of my mind under such overwhelming terror.
I wanted to quit, but I found the entrance I came through was already sealed by an iron gate.
The zombie was still closing in. With nowhere to run, I could only hide in the corner.
At this moment, I was just like a true little girl, helplessly crying out for Guiyue.
“Wuwu, Gui… Guiyue, where are you? Please… please come save me! Waaahhh…”
The zombie showed no mercy to my crying and kept inching closer bit by bit.
“Guiyue… Guiyue, where are you? I admit defeat, please come out quickly, wuwu…”
Seconds passed, and even though I declared I gave up, Guiyue’s figure still didn’t appear.
I felt completely hopeless, unable to think of any solution, and could only cry uselessly.
“Wuwuwu…”
Just as I was sinking into utter despair, a voice reached my ears.
“Sis, I’m back!”
Guiyue’s voice was exceptionally strong, like a beam of light that pulled me out of the abyss of despair.
I looked toward the source and saw her standing at the doorway of the room opposite the entrance, shining a flashlight in my direction.
So there was a room opposite the entrance too? I hadn’t noticed it until now.
She arrived before the zombie could reach me, grabbed my hand, and we ran toward where she was standing.
Quickly, we escaped that blood-red corridor.
Though darkness still stretched before us, the zombie no longer followed.
Thinking back on what had just happened, I was still trembling with fear.
After calming down, Guiyue looked at me with concern.
“Sis, are you okay?”
“I’m fine. Also… I lost this time…”
Although I didn’t want to admit it, I was even more afraid that Guiyue would disappear on me again like just now.
I didn’t want to experience that feeling a second time!
But the teasing I imagined didn’t come. Instead, she ruffled my hair gently and spoke softly to comfort me.
“We’ll talk about that later. Right now, the urgent thing is for us sisters to figure out how to get out together.”
I nodded weakly in response. My small hand gripped the hem of Guiyue’s skirt nervously, afraid that she might vanish again without warning.
Seeing this, Guiyue slowly removed my hand and took it in hers.
“Does this make you feel safer, Sis?”
I nodded again.
Although it felt a little strange, I recalled that earlier, on the way here, we had been holding hands too, so I didn’t think much of it.
With Guiyue’s flashlight lighting the way, we slowly moved forward through the darkness. She walked ahead, and I stayed close behind her.
After walking quietly for quite a while, Guiyue glanced back at me.
“Sis, do you remember? When we were kids, we used to do this too.”
“…Did we? Even when it was you and me playing, wasn’t it always me protecting you and moving forward?”
“Hehe, yes~ You were the big sister protecting me back then, just like I’m the little sister now, and back then I was like you are now.”
Guiyue spoke softly. I seemed to see her faint smile in the darkness.
Though I was reluctant to admit it, it really was just as she said.
Seeing the stubborn look on my face, Guiyue thought for a moment before continuing.
“How about this—before we go to the amusement park, let me be the big sister, and you be the little sister for a while?
I guess to outsiders, that’s probably how it already looks anyway~”
“Ugh, no way!”
I puffed up my cheeks and shook my head, refusing.
At first, I was the older brother, and now that Guiyue calls me big sister, I’m only reluctantly accepting it. How could I possibly accept being the younger sister’s younger sister?
After that, nothing special happened. I had already played through this haunted house before, so under Guiyue’s protection, I wasn’t as scared as before.
Soon, we found the corresponding clues and hints, and with Guiyue, I walked out of the haunted house.
Ugh, though during the process, I still got scared a few times…
After finishing the haunted house, I looked at the exit we just came out of, still catching my breath when the notification sound from my phone buzzed in my pocket.
I checked my phone—it was a message from Ning Xueyang.
【Ning Xueyang: Looks like teacher had fun playing, huh? How about playing an even more fun game with me?】
Attached to Ning Xueyang’s message was a photo of Guiyue and me at the haunted house exit—our current state.
I looked toward where the photo was taken, but couldn’t find anyone there.
I had a bad feeling. The game Ning Xueyang mentioned was definitely not some normal game!
【Guiye: I refuse!】
【Ning Xueyang: Refusal is invalid~ Every time I catch you today, teacher has to be punished once, and the punishment happens right where you’re caught!】
Eh, eh, eh? Punished right where you’re caught…?
You have to know that today I came out with Guiyue. If Ning Xueyang catches me, I’m afraid I’ll end up right in front of my own little sister…
Ugh, I absolutely, absolutely cannot let Ning Xueyang catch me! Absolutely cannot!
