After some discussion, Guiyue and I decided to come to an amusement park in the old district of the eastern part of the city.
The autumn heatwave hadn’t passed yet, and today’s sunlight was still fiercely scorching.
Even from far away at the entrance, we could see people coming in and out, though honestly, there weren’t many.
Guiyue held an umbrella and took my hand, and the two of us sisters walked right down the middle of the street.
A girl paired with a loli naturally attracted quite a few glances from those around us.
“Do you still remember this place, sister?”
Guiyue pointed ahead and asked me.
“How could I forget? This was the place we wanted to come to most when we were kids.”
I vaguely recalled that every time our family asked us where we wanted to go for fun, Guiyue and I always gave the same answer—we wanted to come here.
“But if I’m not mistaken, they’re going to announce the demolition of this place next April.”
Hearing this, a sudden wave of melancholy swept over me. After all, this place held so many memories from my childhood.
“Sigh, there’s no helping it. This is the old district after all. The economic focus has long shifted to the city center. For the government, it’s better to tear down a money-losing amusement park and use the space for road construction to facilitate development elsewhere.”
Infected by my mood, Guiyue also echoed my melancholy, but hers came and went quickly.
“Still, more than that, I care more about whether we can have fun together here today, sister.”
She gently rubbed my little head and smiled at me, instantly dispelling the gloom inside me.
“Yeah, anyway, we can’t change anything. By the way, Guiyue, what do you want to play first? You get to decide the first attraction.”
After a brief thought, Guiyue immediately gave her answer.
“Hmm~ How about the haunted house first? I want to try that.”
I was a bit surprised by her choice.
“Eh? Haunted house? I thought you didn’t like those kinds of things?”
From what I remembered, although we both liked coming here as kids, unlike me who was into thrill rides, she preferred calmer attractions like the sightseeing cable cars.
Because of that, we used to argue a lot back then.
But this time, that wouldn’t happen. As her older sister, I would definitely give in to her!
“Hehe, it’s true I don’t like haunted houses, but this time, my focus isn’t really on the playing experience.”
She grinned and said, “There’s a saying: the real intention isn’t in the wine~”
Honestly, her answer puzzled me.
If her focus wasn’t on the playing experience, what else could it be?
But it didn’t matter. Since my little sister wanted to go to the haunted house first, of course, I had to arrange it!
The scene shifted, and the two of us had already arrived in front of the haunted house.
Because the park wasn’t crowded, we quickly bought our tickets.
Just as we were about to enter, the staff reminded us, “Please pay attention to safety. If you get too scared and can’t handle it, shout for staff assistance loudly.”
“Hmph, don’t worry, I won’t get scared. If Guiyue gets frightened, she can hide behind me—I’ll protect her.”
I put my hands on my hips and said proudly to Guiyue, but all I got was her skeptical look.
“Really?”
“Of course!”
“Then how about this: let’s make a bet. If sister gets scared later, you have to agree to one of my requests.”
“And if I don’t get scared?”
“Then I’ll agree to one of your reasonable requests.”
“Deal!”
I agreed without hesitation. After all, as someone who had played this attraction countless times, how could I be scared?
I pulled back the curtain and stepped into the haunted house first.
A chill immediately washed over me, and ahead, I saw a pitch-black corridor.
Under the dim blue lighting, I could barely make out the edges of the walls.
Along the corridor were skulls lined up one after another. Though I knew they were props, I still didn’t want to touch them, so I chose to keep moving forward in the darkness.
Behind me, I heard movement—Guiyue had followed me in.
“Sister, are you scared?”
“Wh-who would be scared? It’s just some scary stuff!”
I was joking; I’m a brave guy, how could I be afraid of something like this?
“But when you came in, your body trembled a bit.”
“That’s because it’s cold. Such a big temperature difference made me uncomfortable.”
“Really?”
Guiyue tilted her head and smirked at me.
“Tsk, of course it’s true. What’s with that look like you know but won’t say anything?”
Hearing that, Guiyue laughed even more happily.
“So sister knows I’m pretending not to say anything even though I see through it~”
“You!!”
That’s when I realized I had fallen right into Guiyue’s trap.
Tch, that brat!
“Hmph, anyway, I’m not scared. If I say I’m not scared, then I’m not scared!”
“Then if you lose, you have to agree to wear a maid outfit with cat ears tonight and be my catgirl maid for one night, how about that?”
Guiyue clasped her hands together, her eyes slightly narrowed as if already plotting something.
I’m not really opposed to cross-dressing, but this request was too embarrassing.
“No way! That’s way too shameful.”
“Eh? Could it be that you’re actually scared, sister? If you weren’t, you’d agree to whatever I said, right? After all, if you don’t lose, you won’t have to do it~”
Something felt off…
But thinking about it carefully, Guiyue’s words did make sense. Since I couldn’t possibly lose, agreeing to this shouldn’t hurt.
“Alright then, if I lose, I’ll be your catgirl maid for one night.”
“Then it’s a deal~”
Guiyue’s smile grew even brighter, making me feel even more uneasy.
It’s just not getting scared in a haunted house; no matter how you look at it, there’s no way I’ll lose.
Since it’s impossible to lose, I started thinking about what request I would make if I won.
“But hey, if you lose, what should I ask for?”
“That of course is up to sister to decide~”
“Hmm, true~”
I lowered my head and started thinking hard. This opportunity had to be used well, but I couldn’t go too far. What would be a good request?
I kept my head down, walking and pondering until I quickly thought of a pretty decent one.
“Aha! Guiyue, I’ve got it, I want to—”
I turned to look behind me, only to find no one there…
“Eh eh eh eh? Where is everyone?!!!”
I shouted, but the only answer was endless silence.
At the same time, the lights on both sides of the corridor began to change color, shifting from the dark blue to a blood-red crimson…
