Chapter 6: Benefits After the Upgrade

“Congratulations on killing a level 1 undead creature. You’ve gained 1 experience point. Congratulations on leveling up…” 

As these words echoed, Lin Mo felt a silent explosion reverberate through his mind, momentarily blanking his thoughts. 

Immediately afterward, a warm current surged through his entire body-the pain in his hand miraculously vanished, and even his exhaustion dissipated. 

He felt invigorated, his spirit renewed.

Soon after, the string of data representing his attributes in his mind underwent a change:

Compared to before leveling up, all of Lin Mo’s attributes had improved. 

He clenched his fist, confirming that his strength had indeed increased, his thoughts sharper. 

The hollow fatigue from chronic sleep deprivation vanished instantly.

“So it really is possible to level up!” 

Excitement surged within him. 

Leveling up enhanced his physical abilities, erased pain and exhaustion, and restored his stamina to its peak. 

The only uncertainty was whether injuries would also heal…

The method to level up was now clear-kill zombies. 

Only by slaying them could he grow stronger. 

And only by continuously fighting could he hope to cross half the city to find Xiaoya.

Outwardly, Lin Mo remained composed, but inwardly, his emotions churned violently. 

A glimmer of hope emerged, yet it was tinged with tension and faint dread. 

After all, this path meant he would have to repeatedly face terrifying undead in combat.

But even so, he would do it. 

No matter the danger, no matter the risk of death-this was the only way he could see to reach his sister through the sea of corpses. 

And he had to act quickly. 

Though their home was relatively remote with sturdy doors and windows, this was the apocalypse. 

No one knew what horrors might come next.

Then, a troubling thought struck him. 

When the zombie had appeared earlier, the system in his mind had displayed its information-clearly labeling it as “Level 1.” 

Did that mean zombies also had different levels? 

If they could level up too… just how terrifying would high-level undead become? 

Would the buildings survivors relied on for safety even withstand their attacks?

Lin Mo didn’t know. 

No one did. But he couldn’t afford to gamble—not when the stakes were his and Xiaoya’s lives. 

Whether for survival or to reach her faster, he had to arm himself as much as possible. 

At the very least, when true danger arrived, he needed the means to fight back.

After resting briefly, the group regained their composure. 

The zombie corpse outside couldn’t be left unattended—there was no telling if the undead had a sense of smell. 

If they did, the body might attract more.

After pressing his ear against the door and confirming there were no other zombies outside, Lin Mo finally opened it. 

Together, they threw the zombie out through the hallway window.

Once this was done, they returned to their dorm room, where silence fell once more as each person became lost in their own thoughts.

While the others were preoccupied with what to do next-whether they could survive, when the police would return-Lin Mo was thinking about how he could get another chance to kill more zombies…
