Xia Mo froze, and so did Luo Shuangyue.
What was supposed to be a cozy two-person moment suddenly had an extra person, making things incredibly awkward.
“How about you tell her I’m your friend?”
“…No way, get to my room and hide, quick!”
Xia Mo shook her head immediately.
No way was she letting the innocent, clueless Luo Shuangxing get targeted by Ming Die.
At that moment, she didn’t care that Ming Die was a far stronger villain.
She stood up, grabbed Ming Die’s wrist, and dragged her toward her room.
One in slippers, the other in smooth black stockings, Xia Mo pulled Ming Die along effortlessly.
As she tugged, she couldn’t help but notice how slender Ming Die’s wrist was, like she hadn’t eaten well as a kid.
…Could Ming Die actually be that poor?
Thinking this, Xia Mo shoved Ming Die into her room.
“Hurry up and find a place to hide. Don’t get caught!”
With that, she rushed to the front door with quick steps and opened it.
There stood Luo Shuangxing, looking anxious.
She’d made it halfway to the bus stop before realizing her bag had nothing but books—no keys, no phone, not even bus fare.
“Thank goodness you’re still here, Xia Mo-jie, or I’d be screwed,” Luo Shuangxing sighed in relief.
As she started to take off her shoes, she noticed an unfamiliar pair of black women’s ankle boots by the door.
They looked new, like they’d just been bought.
Were they Xia Mo-jie’s?
Or was someone else here? Luo Shuangxing wondered silently.
“Xia Mo-jie, do we have a guest?”
“No, it’s just me,” Xia Mo shook her head quickly.
If Luo Shuangxing saw Ming Die, things would be impossible to explain.
After all, Ming Die was hiding in her room like some sneaky homewrecker avoiding the wronged party.
If Luo Shuangxing saw her, who knows what she’d think?
“Then these shoes…”
“They’re mine!” Xia Mo answered firmly.
Ming Die’s build was similar to hers, except for the chest, and their shoe sizes were the same.
If Ming Die could wear them, so could she.
No problem claiming them.
“Oh, how come I’ve never seen you with these shoes before…”
“I bought them online. They just arrived, so you haven’t seen them,” Xia Mo said, her neck damp with sweat. Lying like this was a huge challenge for her.
But for Luo Shuangxing’s sake—for everyone’s sake—she had to pull off this tough task and keep Ming Die’s presence a secret.
Luo Shuangxing scratched her head.
The explanation was somewhat believable, but she wasn’t quite buying it.
Xia Mo always asked her for advice on clothes and showed off new purchases to her and her brother for feedback.
Why hadn’t she shown these shoes?
Weird, too weird.
Her gut told her Xia Mo was hiding something.
What could it be?
Luo Shuangxing couldn’t guess, but she was sure it had to do with those mysterious shoes.
Maybe a friend of Xia Mo-jie’s was visiting?
That would explain the unfamiliar shoes.
But then, why was Xia Mo acting so guilty, denying anyone was here?
“It’s true, Shuangxing. Don’t you have makeup classes? You’ll be late if you don’t hurry.”
Actually, the class schedule’s pretty flexible.
Being half an hour or an hour late isn’t a big deal, Luo Shuangxing muttered to herself.
Compared to makeup classes at the Magic Department, uncovering the secret in the house felt way more important.
Her eyes darted, and she came up with a plan.
She nodded as if she believed Xia Mo, ran to her room, stuffed her phone and keys in her pocket, then rushed out, pretending to be frantic.
“Xia Mo-jie, please, I still can’t find my keys! Can I borrow yours, pretty please?”
With hands clasped, Luo Shuangxing pleaded, head bowed.
Her room was normal, and her brother always locked his door before leaving.
The only place something could be off was Xia Mo-jie’s room!
If she could get into Xia Mo’s room, she’d uncover the truth!
Faced with Luo Shuangxing’s plea, Xia Mo hesitated. Ming Die was still hiding in her room.
If Ming Die didn’t hide well, wouldn’t Luo Shuangxing spot her?
But refusing would make Luo Shuangxing even more suspicious.
She’d have to bet on Ming Die’s hiding skills.
Xia Mo gritted her teeth and nodded heavily.
“Alright, I’ll get them for you.”
She headed to her slightly ajar bedroom door, with Luo Shuangxing following closely behind.
Pushing open the door, Xia Mo immediately noticed the window, which had been closed, was now open.
Right, Ming Die wasn’t ordinary—she could totally escape through the window!
Realizing this, Xia Mo felt a surge of confidence.
Her only worry had been Luo Shuangxing finding Ming Die, but now that Ming Die was gone, what was there to fear?
Let Luo Shuangxing search her room to dispel her doubts—it didn’t matter!
“I’ll grab the keys. Shuangxing, sit anywhere,” Xia Mo said, her voice brimming with confidence.
Luo Shuangxing glanced at the open window, puzzled but not thinking much of it.
Nobody would jump out a window, right?
Xia Mo’s calm, open attitude made her doubt her own suspicions.
Was she overthinking?
Even after Xia Mo handed her the keys, Luo Shuangxing couldn’t figure it out.
She pushed her doubts down and left Xia Mo’s room.
Five minutes later, watching Luo Shuangxing’s retreating figure from the window, Xia Mo let out a long sigh of relief.
Good thing Ming Die was sharp and bolted through the window…
Before she could finish the thought, she heard rustling from her wardrobe behind her.
Turning around, she was dumbfounded to see Ming Die stealthily poking her head out of the wardrobe, winking at her.
“You… how are you hiding there?!”
Xia Mo’s back was drenched in cold sweat as she processed it.
So you didn’t escape—you hid?!
Why are you this obedient right now?!
