After a full day of rest and reorganization, the camp finally returned to normal.
Yisela sat cross-legged on a clean fur mat, with a small low table in front of her. On the table were all sorts of specially supplied meals that Seraphina had ordered from the rear.
There was a golden, crispy-skinned roasted chicken leg, a soft piece of bread drizzled with honey, and a steaming bowl of cream of mushroom soup.
Lina sat across from Yisela.
“Cough, cough.”
Yisela cleared her throat, putting on a scholarly air with great effort. Although Seraphina had just given her a lesson, making her understand that she was now a “crispy baby,” she absolutely could not lose face in front of Lina.
“Lina, today I, this princess, will teach you a lesson.”
Yisela grabbed the chicken leg with one hand and used the other to dip in the soup and draw a crooked pyramid shape on the table. “You see, the essence of this world, in the end, is just a bunch of people fighting.”
She pointed to the very bottom layer. “This area is from F-rank all the way to A-rank. These are the miscellaneous villagers you saw yesterday, and the ordinary Knight uncles.”
“For this kind of trash, I can take on ten with one hand.”
She drew another line above. “This layer is Silver to Gold. Just like Captain Lei Meng and the elite magic beasts.”
“This kind, Saint Sister can crush them with one finger.”
Lina’s eyes sparkled as she listened, her head nodding like a chick pecking at rice. “Wow! Princess, you’re so amazing! What about you? Are you in the top layer?”
Yisela felt pleased inside, her tail wagging proudly behind her, but she let out a fake sigh. “Alas, this princess used to be in the highest Epic rank. With one stomp, I could shatter a mountain.”
When she got to this point, she paused and quickly added, “But! I’m currently in a special training period! I’m a limited edition with my true power hidden!”
“Mm-hmm!” Lina looked completely convinced. “I knew it! Princess is the best! Those magic beasts run away as soon as they see you! You know so much, even more than that old priest in the village!”
“Of course!” Yisela was completely relaxed by this flattery. She waved her hand and placed the biggest, most fragrant roasted chicken leg in front of her directly into Lina’s bowl. “Eat this! As long as you follow this princess, I guarantee you’ll eat well and drink well!”
Lina looked at the big chicken leg in her bowl, tears almost falling. “Thank you, Princess! You are truly the kindest, most generous, and most beautiful princess on the entire continent!”
Just as the one dragon and one human were flattering each other in a harmonious atmosphere, a faint magical fluctuation suddenly came through the air.
A white light coalesced at the empty seat next to Yisela, forming a semi-transparent magic communication image.
In the image, the Master of the Hall of Holy Light wore a plain white robe, his face warm and kind, sitting in his own study in the Temple. He held a book in his hand, looking as if he were just making an ordinary greeting.
“Seraphina, Yisela, it seems you two are having a good time over there.”
Seraphina, who had been tense, relaxed a bit when she saw the communication. She glanced at Yisela, who was showing off the chicken leg to Lina, quickly walked over beside the image, and knelt on one knee to bow.
“Teacher, I’m sorry to disturb you so late, but there is an urgent report from the border.” Seraphina’s voice was low and serious. She waved for the surrounding guards to withdraw, lowering her voice. “Although we repelled the beast tide today, the situation is very abnormal.”
“Oh?” The Master in the image raised an eyebrow slightly, his tone still calm. “Tell me about it.”
“Those magic beasts! They actually had tactics.” Seraphina frowned tightly, her fingers unconsciously gripping her sword hilt.
“In the past, border magic beasts only attacked with bloodthirsty frenzy, but this batch is very different. They know how to feint, how to use terrain for cover, and even how to concentrate their strength to attack the weakest points of the barrier.”
“If I hadn’t gone to reinforce in time, the western defense line would have been torn open. Moreover, I sensed a very subtle magical fluctuation on the battlefield. Someone was secretly commanding them. This absolutely cannot be beast instinct; there must be someone behind it.”
After hearing this, the Master slowly withdrew his smile, replaced by a heavy, worried expression. He was silent for a moment, then tapped his fingers lightly on the desk.
“Someone controlling them… That is indeed bad news. It means our interior might also be infiltrated. Saint, who do you think it is? Remnants of the demon race, or…”
“I’m not sure.” Seraphina shook her head. “That magic power was too subtle, but I am certain of one thing: the border is no longer safe. Large-scale war could break out here at any moment.”
When she said this, Seraphina subconsciously looked back at Yisela, who was gnawing on her fingers, and a hesitant expression appeared in her eyes.
“Master, since it’s so dangerous here, why not send Yisela back to the Temple first? Could you please take care of her…”
As soon as these words were spoken, the air froze. Yisela, who was eating the chicken leg, paused her movements, her ears perking up.
The Master seemed to see through her concerns and gave a wry smile.
“You know as well as I do that the Elders in the Temple are still very dissatisfied with Yisela. If she returns alone, I’m afraid it will be difficult for me to protect her at all times. After all, you know the Temple’s rules.”
When Yisela heard this, her heart skipped a beat. Although the Temple had good food, those old men really did want to drive her out. She subconsciously tightened her grip on the chicken leg, her eyes flickering.
The Master looked at Seraphina’s troubled expression and spoke in a firm, reliable tone.
“Don’t worry. I have already dispatched my most elite personal guards to the border. They are all Platinum-level experts and should arrive soon. With them here, your safety will have double protection.”
He paused, looking intently at Seraphina. “Seraphina, you must protect the little princess of the dragon race. Protect her closely; do not let her come to any harm.”
Seraphina nodded slightly. “Of course. I will protect her with my life.”
But the Master shook his head, revealing a mysterious smile.
“No, mere physical protection is not enough. I have recently consulted a large number of ancient books regarding her curse. This is an extremely special Love God curse, closely related to both emotions and the body.”
‘Love God curse?’ Yisela almost spit out the chicken in her mouth when she heard this. ‘I was clearly cursed by that ugly god into a succubus physique… when did it become a Love God?’
“My investigation shows that the best way to alleviate this curse is through love. By constantly stimulating her inner emotions, letting her feel loved and needed, her physical condition will improve, and it may even promote the recovery of her power.” He looked at Seraphina.
“So, Saint, in the future you must spoil her a little more. Hug her more, praise her more, make her happy. This is not just taking care of her; it’s treating her illness. Do you understand what I mean?”
‘What kind of absurd theory is this?!’ Yisela mentally ranted. But seeing Seraphina’s expression gradually become convinced by the Master’s authority, she didn’t dare to speak out in rebuttal.
After hearing all this, although Seraphina still had doubts (since she had previously discovered that the curse devoured emotions), facing the Master’s authority and his prescription for a cure, she could only choose to believe. “I understand, Teacher. I will… take good care of her feelings.”
“That’s right.” The Master nodded in satisfaction, and the image began to blur. “Alright, I still have important matters to attend to. Remember, protect her closely; do not let her come to any harm.”
The image dissipated. Seraphina turned and looked at the little silver dragon who was still trying to cover her inner unease with bravado.
Yisela felt a chill run down her spine under her gaze, and said stubbornly, “Stop looking! I wasn’t eavesdropping on purpose! That old man talked about some Love God curse, it’s totally ridiculous!”
Even as she said this, her body was honest—having heard that Platinum-level personal guards were coming, she did feel a little relieved inside.
Seraphina walked over to her without a word, reached out, and gently scooped up Yisela along with the chicken leg into her arms. Her warm holy light flowed out around her body, enveloping Yisela.
“Be good, don’t move. Since the Master says this is treatment… then let’s listen to him.”
Yisela froze completely. She could clearly hear Seraphina’s heartbeat and smell her pleasant scent.
‘Protect closely; do not let her come to any harm.’
These words echoed in Yisela’s mind. She buried her face in Seraphina’s holy robe and muttered quietly, “What a hassle… For the sake of treatment, this princess will reluctantly let you hold me for a while.”
The campfire gradually died down, and Yisela fell asleep in that warm embrace. She dreamed that she had become a little dragon bound by chains, and the person holding the key stood atop a high tower, smiling at her struggling desperately.
