Jin Ke’er believed she was no different from Bai Huizi.
If anything, the only difference was that Bai Huizi possessed a healthy body compared to her.
If she had a healthy body, she didn’t think she would do any worse than Bai Huizi.
Jin Ke’er believed she could do even better.
Remembering her own unfortunate experiences, Jin Ke’er’s breathing grew faster and faster. She suddenly overturned the entire medicine box.
Pills scattered like hail onto the carpet, rolling into the shadows.
Her distorted face reflected in the mirror, bloodshot veins in her eyes spreading like spiderwebs.
Bai Huizi was the insurmountable snow mountain standing between her and Su Li, and she had been deprived of even the right to compete with Bai Huizi.
But soon, a cruel smile curled at the corner of Jin Ke’er’s lips.
She realized there was still a difference between herself and Bai Huizi.
She didn’t believe that Su Li was equally important in Bai Huizi’s heart.
Not as important as she was in her own heart.
If she hadn’t lost Su Li once before, Jin Ke’er wouldn’t have realized Su Li’s uniqueness.
And some lessons could only be understood by those who had personally experienced them. She believed that Bai Huizi simply couldn’t comprehend such emotions.
So Bai Huizi would easily walk down the same old path she had.
Su Li.
So what if she was exquisitely beautiful?
She was merely a refined toy.
Toys like that could be found anywhere. Finding a replacement wasn’t a difficult task.
The only thing that made Su Li different from other toys was that her body was more durable.
Although she looked incredibly delicate, she wasn’t fragile.
And other toys as exquisite as Su Li were all weak and breakable.
Jin Ke’er didn’t think Bai Huizi would realize this.
Only…
Someone like herself needed a durable toy.
So perhaps Su Li wasn’t that important in Bai Huizi’s heart.
Just like Su Li had once been in hers.
“Miss.”
Lan Yinyun’s voice came from the doorway.
Jin Ke’er sat back down in her wheelchair and pushed herself toward the door.
Her legs had long since recovered, but walking for extended periods was still troublesome.
So Jin Ke’er chose to allocate her walking time to important occasions.
Her legs were nothing more than a tool to her.
A tool to maintain appearances.
But without them, she lost face.
She lost her say within the family.
Lan Yinyun looked at the mess in the room, her expression unchanged.
She simply spoke into her walkie-talkie.
It wouldn’t be long before someone came to clean the room.
Lan Yinyun stood behind Jin Ke’er’s wheelchair and pushed her toward a room.
In that room, a young woman with a beautiful figure was waiting.
But she had no idea what fate awaited her.
Gifts from heaven were already secretly priced in advance.
Lan Yinyun had known since childhood that there was no such thing as a free lunch in this world, but many people didn’t understand that.
She pushed Jin Ke’er into the room, then slowly closed the door.
Lan Yinyun stood outside the door, her fingertips pressed against the cold door panel.
From inside came the girl’s heart-wrenching cries, like a kitten being strangled by the throat, mixed with the dull thuds of a body slamming against the floor.
Jin Ke’er’s roar was like a wild beast, her voice laced with heavy, ragged breaths: “Bitch! Who told you to dodge?”
The sharp crack of shattering glass exploded, and the girl’s pleas suddenly turned into intermittent whimpers.
Lan Yinyun’s eardrums stung from the screeching sound of fingernails scraping across the floor, and a thin line of dark red slowly seeped out from under the door gap.
After an unknown amount of time, the girl’s sobbing came to an abrupt halt. Only Jin Ke’er’s manic laughter echoed through the room, like a rusty saw grinding back and forth against metal.
Every time this happened, she would especially miss Su Li.
Same price.
But Su Li did better than anyone else.
And she never caused so much trouble.
It was just a pity that finding someone like Su Li wasn’t easy.
First, her appearance had to be refined.
Although this condition could be somewhat mitigated with makeup.
But most girls couldn’t withstand Jin Ke’er’s abuse.
Besides, girls who were naturally beautiful were usually delicate and frail.
A girl like Su Li was simply an anomaly.
Someone no one else could compare to.
Later, as usual, aside from Jin Ke’er’s cursing, there was no other sound.
“Miss.”
Lan Yinyun knocked gently on the door.
“Get lost.”
Jin Ke’er’s roar came from inside the room.
“Someone will die, Miss.”
Only then did Jin Ke’er’s voice gradually quiet down.
Lan Yinyun pushed the door open, and a heavy stench of blood hit her face.
Jin Ke’er slumped in her wheelchair gasping for air, bits of bloody skin still embedded under her fingernails.
The girl curled up on the floor was covered in blood and grime, her carefully styled curls torn into a mess, her expensive dress already ripped into rags. Her exposed skin was covered in burn marks from scalding water.
Her left eye was swollen shut, and the split wound at the corner of her mouth was still seeping blood. She let out weak, gasping breaths like a fish on the verge of death.
Jin Ke’er grabbed the IV stand and hurled it against the wall. The clang of metal made the girl instinctively flinch.
“Useless! You’re not even fit to be a substitute!”
She suddenly choked and fell silent, her bloodshot eyes fixed on the girl’s earlobe.
There was an ear stud there, identical to the one Su Li wore.
Then Jin Ke’er shook her head and didn’t think further.
After all, this girl still shared something in common with Su Li.
They were both commoners.
Lan Yinyun noticed the wig scattered beside the wheelchair, snow-white strands tangled with blood stuck to the floor like a crushed white daisy.
She silently dragged the unconscious girl’s body toward the door.
Only after leaving the room did she use her walkie-talkie to send someone for treatment and to clean the floor.
Jin Ke’er gripped the armrests of her wheelchair, knuckles turning white, her voice hoarse: “How much longer until you bring Su Li here?”
Her bloodshot eyes stared intently at Lan Yinyun, crushed pill fragments under her feet:
“Who are these trash you keep bringing me?”
“I was just starting to release my emotions, and she faints right away.”
“Venting on someone who’s unconscious and no different from a corpse—why don’t I just go buy a mannequin?”
“I give you all that funding, not so you can find garbage to fool me with!”
“Three days!”
“If you can’t find her within three days, you’re out!”
Jin Ke’er said irritably. She didn’t bother looking at Lan Yinyun’s expression, just wheeled herself slowly toward the front door of the estate.
“Whatever you have to do, I just want to see Su Li!”
