“Going out?” Zhu Niao looked around.
The guests had mostly left. The only ones remaining were Gou Yu’s side of the family.
But even that wasn’t complete.
Only the store manager lady and Gou Yu’s mother were there.
When Zhu Niao’s gaze fell on the store manager lady, she explained, “He went back with his father. Before leaving, he asked me to tell you two to keep that paper safe. If you don’t want to pick out a car, a more practical stroller would also be an option.”
Zhu Niao was stunned as she looked at the store manager lady.
Then she finally realized whom the lady was talking about—the car salesman—and the little note he had left that allowed them to pick any car for free.
“Uh, actually, I think she meant to ask where my dad went.”
Gou Yu was good at reading Zhu Niao.
Then Zhu Niao saw the store manager lady’s clearly surprised expression: “Is it really necessary to care where he went?”
This time, it was Zhu Niao’s turn to be surprised.
Wasn’t it important to know where the head of the family had gone?
Oh, wait—given Gou Yu’s household situation, his father might not exactly be the head of the family.
“That’s right. When my dad goes to do something serious, he absolutely has to show off every bit of bravado he can. He wants to tell everyone he’s about to do something serious and leave a dashing image behind.”
Gou Yu explained to Zhu Niao like a walking encyclopedia.
Even though he was explaining his own family.
“And if he’s not going to do something serious, he won’t tell anyone. But there’s always a clue—you can more or less guess from my mom’s reaction.”
Gou Yu pointed at the noblewoman who was holding a phone to her ear, apparently waiting for a call to connect, while her other hand rested on her hip.
Though she showed no outward signs, Zhu Niao felt like she was staring at a volcano about to erupt.
“See? Judging from my mom’s behavior now…”
Gou Yu rubbed his chin and thought for a moment. “My dad probably went fishing.”
“How can you tell?” Zhu Niao tilted her head.
“Because the fact that he isn’t answering his phone makes that likely. He doesn’t have many recreational activities.”
“Middle-aged men have plenty of recreational activities, don’t they…” Zhu Niao started to speak, then realized what jaw-dropping comment she was about to make and quickly covered her mouth.
But Gou Yu, who could practically share the same trousers as her, knew exactly what she was thinking.
Oh, wait—they couldn’t share trousers anymore.
“I know what you were about to say. That kind of situation almost never happens in my family. For generations, we’ve been devoted to pure love.”
Gou Yu paused, then, not caring whether his next words might damage his father’s authority, said bluntly, “If my dad had the energy to go after other women, he wouldn’t even be able to handle my mom at night.”
That was true.
During the time Zhu Niao had stayed at Gou Yu’s house, she usually saw his father full of energy before bedtime, but by the next morning, he was nowhere to be found.
Huh, so that kind of mother was actually an effective way to keep a spouse from straying.
If you drain all their energy in that department, they wouldn’t be able to leave you, right?
Zhu Niao suddenly looked at Gou Yu.
“Mom!” Feeling an inexplicable chill, Gou Yu waved at the noblewoman, who had dialed countless calls.
He received a glare that seemed intent on killing him.
But the moment that glare landed on Zhu Niao beside Gou Yu, it instantly softened.
“What is it, dear?” The noblewoman’s face was full of smiles, kind and gentle.
She was like a completely different person from the ferocious demoness of a moment ago.
But Gou Yu seemed used to it.
“We’re going out for a bit. Is that okay?” Gou Yu announced their plan.
“Going out is great. Go ahead and have fun.” The noblewoman beamed at Zhu Niao.
She seemed to have her gaze fixed on Zhu Niao the entire time, even though Zhu Niao hadn’t said a word—Gou Yu was the one talking.
Zhu Niao felt as if she were a puppet controlling Gou Yu’s speech, and Gou Yu’s mother saw right through to her true essence.
“Just the two of you, right?” The noblewoman finally glanced at her precious son for the first time, her eyes carrying a strong threat and coldness.
Then Gou Yu, with a distinct lack of benevolence and righteousness, glanced at the store manager lady, who had been zoning out.
The red-haired young lady pointed at herself in disbelief.
Then, facing the murderous look from Gou Yu’s mother, she calmly picked up her phone: “Hello? What? My store exploded? I’ll be right there.”
And she walked away from the engagement banquet in her stiletto heels, striding ahead of Zhu Niao and Gou Yu.
Gou Yu raised both hands. “Just the two of us.”
The noblewoman smiled and nodded, apparently very satisfied.
Then she began to lecture Gou Yu: “When you’re on a date, you must pay attention. Look after the girl. Don’t just do whatever you want—what you want to play might not be what she wants to play.”
Upon hearing this, Gou Yu and Zhu Niao exchanged glances.
It was like when a teacher accidentally says something in class that only two students understand.
Then the two of them lock eyes, unable to hold back their laughter, and get called out by the teacher.
That was exactly it—anything Gou Yu liked to play, Zhu Niao would definitely like too.
“What are you laughing at?” The noblewoman saw Gou Yu struggling to contain his laughter.
She was about to lose it, but then she saw Zhu Niao laughing too.
Alright, she’ll let it slide.
“You two go on your date and be careful. This brat, you need to protect her, understand?” That was her final warning.
“Don’t worry, Mom.”
Gou Yu raised both arms and struck a classic flexing pose, his biceps slightly straining the fabric of his suit jacket.
“Look at me—if any stray dog dares to bark at Zhu Niao, it’ll get a kick from me.”
“That’s not the kind of protection I mean.” Gou Yu’s mother’s expression was flat.
Gou Yu, who had been admiring his own flex, froze.
But Zhu Niao caught on.
She quickly grabbed Gou Yu’s hand. “Mom, we’ll be going now.”
As if afraid Gou Yu’s mother would explain it to him.
Only after they left the banquet hall did Zhu Niao’s tight grip loosen slightly, though she didn’t let go.
“Where are you taking me? It’s not just an all-night internet café, is it?”
“Actually, that’s not off the table. But I saw a news clip while scrolling through videos, and I thought we could go check it out.”
Gou Yu grinned, clearly keeping it a mystery.
