Bai Huizi could clearly feel Su Li’s body heating up, the warm breath she exhaled brushing against her hand with a tingling sensation.
As the landlord, she had naturally been observing Su Li for a long time.
This little girl wasn’t just tidy, she was also quite caring.
The stray cat downstairs was being looked after by Su Li.
Sometimes when her own cat ran out to play, it would be well taken care of by Su Li too.
“Is there anything you need big sis to help with?”
Bai Huizi shifted the heavy white rabbit that had been resting on Su Li’s head—a bit heavy for her—then wrapped her arms around Su Li’s neck again, leaning in to whisper in her ear.
She tactfully didn’t ask why Su Li was moving out, only whether she needed help.
She didn’t concern herself with the affairs between kids.
She cared more about Su Li as a person.
Su Li hesitated. Being able to get help directly from her landlord big sis was certainly a good thing.
But since she had already decided to move out, she naturally didn’t want to be too close to Chi Qingya.
Just the possibility of bumping into Chi Qingya at school every day was already troublesome enough.
If she were to live close to her as well, it would be hard not to see each other constantly.
While it might not affect her emotionally,
it would interfere with her ability to make money and do other things.
Bai Huizi immediately picked up on Su Li’s thoughts.
“Big sis can feel from your heartbeat that you need my help.”
As she spoke, a set of keys jingled in front of Su Li’s eyes, making a clear “ding-dang, ding-dang” sound.
“Coincidentally, big sis still has a few places available elsewhere, also close to the university. Want to go take a look?”
The sound of the keys was almost like a siren’s song, drawing all of Su Li’s attention.
Her previous dealings with Bai Huizi had gone quite smoothly—at the very least, compared to other landlords, Bai Huizi wasn’t obsessed with money and was easy to talk to.
She had also seen, among the cats playing downstairs with Potato and Milk, a refined Ragdoll cat that looked like a noble lady, yet acted completely down to earth.
Later, she saw that Ragdoll cat being held in Bai Huizi’s arms.
“Big sis Bai, can cats be kept in your new places?”
Su Li finally voiced her concern.
Chi Qingya didn’t like cats or dogs, so she had never brought the strays home.
Nor had she asked Bai Huizi whether her rentals allowed pets.
“Of course, little Su Li. Who knows, when I’m busy, you might even need to help me look after Da Lei.”
“Da Lei?”
“That’s the name of our Ragdoll cat.”
Su Li paused, then nodded.
She glanced at Bai Huizi’s generous chest and wondered if the cat’s name had anything to do with it.
“Did you pay for the milk tea? If not, let big sis treat you.”
“I already paid, big sis Bai.”
Su Li replied, though she still felt a bit puzzled inside.
The milk tea she ordered wasn’t expensive—so cheap, in fact, that even Chi Qingya wouldn’t bother to drink it.
And yet Bai Huizi showed up at this milk tea shop that didn’t really suit her image.
Surely it couldn’t be because of her?
She shook her head, thinking there wasn’t anything about herself that could draw Bai Huizi’s attention.
Following behind her, Su Li got into the front passenger seat.
Unlike the luxury car parked downstairs earlier, Bai Huizi had switched to a new one.
Bai Huizi took Su Li to view several properties in different locations.
Seeing Su Li deep in thought and unable to decide, she didn’t rush her.
She had plenty of properties across the city—there was bound to be one Su Li would like.
Before long, the two of them arrived in front of a high-rise building.
Bai Huizi immediately noticed the sparkle in Su Li’s eyes—she clearly liked this place very much.
“Little Su Li, which floor do you want to live on?”
“The top floor, big sis Bai.”
Staring up at the towering building, Su Li paused for a moment, but still chose the top.
Though the top floor wasn’t necessarily the best compared to other floors, she was instantly drawn to it.
Bai Huizi looked at her and smiled slightly, then led her to the elevator.
It just so happened that she had a unit on the top floor.
The elevator was spacious, but Su Li could still feel the warmth radiating from Bai Huizi from time to time.
Her gaze was fixed on the rising floor numbers, but her heartbeat slowly began to speed up.
Chi Qingya’s place had also been on a high floor, but without an elevator, so every time she had to throw out the trash, she had to climb countless stairs.
With an elevator now, no matter how high the floor, it would be much more convenient.
It was a two-bedroom unit, the master bedroom was very spacious, and more importantly, it was high up.
Sitting on the balcony and looking out, one could take in the entire city’s nightscape.
The city’s hustle and bustle unfolded beneath her eyes.
It was the kind of feeling she had always dreamed of—looking down on the city as if she had control over something.
And at least in this moment, the whole city was at her feet.
No matter where she was in this city, as long as she looked up, she would see her home.
That feeling gave some substance to her otherwise dull and flavorless life.
And the location wasn’t in the same area as Chi Qingya’s home, but it was still close to the university.
The surrounding amenities were excellent.
Subway, hospital, convenience stores—everything one might need, all within two kilometers.
On her way here, she even noticed a pet hospital nearby.
If a cat or dog ever got sick, it would be easy to take them for treatment.
Through the slight trembling of Su Li’s body, Bai Huizi could tell she was very pleased with the place.
So she moved closer to Su Li and whispered in her ear:
“This one is eight thousand a month, little Su Li~”
Eight thousand a month?
Su Li’s heart skipped a beat.
If it had been back when she first came to this world, even if she worked every single day, renting a place like this would have been nearly impossible.
She might’ve even ended up spending more than she earned.
Eight thousand a month—that’s ninety-six thousand a year.
And the money she had on hand would only let her live here for about thirty years.
Standing beside Su Li with her arms crossed, Bai Huizi studied her expression.
Though her face remained calm, it was clear she was deep in thought.
Eight thousand in monthly rent would make even an adult hesitate.
Let alone someone like Su Li, a student who hadn’t even graduated.
Rather than the rent, what Su Li thought of was the fifty thousand Chi Qingya had asked from her.
If rent was really this expensive, then Chi Qingya had actually offered her quite a deal back then.
Seeing Su Li gulp, Bai Huizi’s slender fingers touched her neck. As if reading Su Li’s mind, she said:
“The place you used to live in wasn’t this expensive. That one’s just four thousand a month—meant specifically for students.”
“Mm… If you and your little girlfriend split the rent, it’d only be two thousand a month each~”
