Zhang Yu was naturally unwilling to be devoured by zombies.
He kicked Chen Chen hard twice in the grip, but no matter how much he struggled, Chen Chen refused to let go.
As the two wrestled, the zombies had already caught up.
“Fuck! Let go, damn it!”
Zhang Yu was utterly desperate, raining blows on Chen Chen’s head until his once fair and handsome face was bruised black and blue.
Yet even then, Chen Chen clung tightly to Zhao Zitian’s leg, his eyes filled with venomous hatred, his entire demeanor bordering on madness.
“Groooowl-!”
It was too late.
The zombies arrived before either could even scream, tearing them both to pieces.
“How ironic…”
Song Xue’er slumped to the ground not far ahead, laughing at herself bitterly.
“Even when survival is already hopeless, they still waste energy fighting among themselves. Maybe… this is just human nature…”
She stood there dazed, her body drained of strength, her legs too heavy to move.
What did it matter if she could still run? She glanced at the vast, empty road ahead, then at the gloomy sky.
Perhaps in this apocalyptic world, death was inevitable.
If so, why struggle?
Why bother with the fickleness of human relationships or face this naked, cruel reality?
The zombies were closing in.
The thick stench of blood and decay overwhelmed Song Xue’er’s senses, making her tremble in fear.
“Soon… it’ll all be over…”
She closed her eyes, quietly awaiting death’s embrace.
“Thunk-!”
The sound of something sharp piercing flesh rang out, but the expected pain never came.
Puzzled, Song Xue’er opened her eyes to see a lean figure standing protectively in front of her, a sharp axe splitting a zombie’s skull, black blood splattering everywhere…
“What are you standing around for, idiot?”
With a forceful swing, Lin Mo flung the zombie aside, then kicked away another lunging toward them.
Yet Song Xue’er remained frozen, staring blankly at him.
“What the hell are you thinking? Run!”
Lin Mo roared at her.
Only then did she snap out of her daze with a shudder.
But the moment she tried to move, her legs burned with exhaustion, her entire body weak-no matter how hard she tried, she couldn’t run.
“I… I can’t run…”
Her voice trembled on the verge of tears as she turned back, panic and terror written across her face.
The zombie was now less than half a meter away.
She could almost feel its sharp claws inching closer, the fear of death magnified to its peak.
Had Lin Mo not arrived in time, she would have already been torn apart by the horde.
Having brushed so close to death, Song Xue’er’s fear and panic only intensified.
Like a falling suicide regretting their choice mid-air, she now understood the unparalleled, inescapable terror of mortality.
All her earlier chaotic thoughts vanished.
Only one idea remained in Song Xue’er’s mind-survive!
But even so, her body had truly reached its limit.
A petite girl like her would have been caught by the zombies long ago if not for her martial arts training since childhood, which had kept her physical condition decent enough to survive until now.
“Damn it, what a pain!”
Lin Mo swiftly dodged an attack from a zombie, then took several quick steps back before scooping Song Xue’er up by the waist and sprinting away…
