“I’m sorry, Yao Yao.”
Hearing Chi Qingyao’s words, Chi Qingya quickly took out her phone and transferred a thousand yuan to her.
“I forgive you, my foolish sister.”
Seeing that the money had arrived, Chi Qingyao was in a good mood. With money in hand, she could continue buying skins in the game.
Good thing she had her sister around.
Even though her sister had caused her quite a bit of trouble, having a sister who could cough up money was still a very comfortable thing.
“Don’t worry. With me here, no one dares to bully you.”
Chi Qingyao patted Chi Qingya’s shoulder and said confidently.
“When the time comes, I’ll find a vocational college near your university in S City. No one will be able to mess with you then.”
“Yao Yao still needs to study hard, you know.”
Chi Qingya said, a hint of worry in her voice, but Chi Qingyao didn’t take it to heart.
“What’s the use of studying hard? Do the college graduates from your school make more money than Mom and Dad?”
“Anyway, when Mom and Dad get older and no one can take over their work, you, as a university graduate, definitely won’t want to do the kind of manual labor they do. So I’ll just have to do it.”
Chi Qingyao said nonchalantly. To her, school was just about experiencing the process.
After graduation, she could inherit her parents’ business and start making money. As far as she was concerned, that job gave her more than enough spending money.
Unlike her sister, who might not even find a job after graduating from university.
If it weren’t for her parents forcing her to go to school, she would have dropped out long ago and started working with them.
Going to school was just a waste of time for her.
It was enough that their family had a high-achiever like Chi Qingya.
Hearing her sister’s words, Chi Qingya looked at Chi Qingyao. She wanted to say something, but the words wouldn’t come out.
Could she make as much money as her parents after graduation?
She didn’t know. She felt like she probably couldn’t.
Chi Qingya noticed that many of her classmates weren’t as well off as she was, even if their parents had higher education levels. Their families just weren’t as wealthy.
Chi Qingyao was right. It was very possible that after she graduated, the job she found wouldn’t even pay as much as what Chi Qingyao earned.
The only difference might be that her job would be less physically demanding.
But even that wasn’t a guarantee.
Chi Qingya remembered how hard her parents used to work, but once they had money, life did get a lot better.
At least now, when there were no customers at their stall, they could scroll on their phones or do other things.
The only downside was that it was still pretty hot working outside.
With Yao Yao’s personality, maybe she really could inherit all those connections her parents had made?
Thinking about the bleak job prospects for college graduates that she’d seen online, Chi Qingya felt that she might not end up better off than her sister.
“Don’t worry, Chi Qingya. If you can’t make it out there, just come back home and find me. I’ll help you make money.”
Chi Qingyao said calmly, but Chi Qingya remained silent.
Going back to that small mountain village?
She didn’t want that.
She had worked so hard to get out.
Seeing the expression on Chi Qingya’s face, Chi Qingyao didn’t say anything more.
She just looked out the window for a while, then rested her head on Chi Qingya’s shoulder and fell asleep.
When she had set out, she thought the big city might be interesting. But now that she was here, Chi Qingyao felt it wasn’t much different from her little village.
People were everywhere.
The scenery was all the same, too. After seeing it once, there was nothing special about it.
If it weren’t for Chi Qingya being in this city, she might never have come here at all.
Chi Qingya just sat up straight, careful not to disturb Chi Qingyao.
She didn’t know why, but meeting her sister should have been a happy occasion. Instead, the atmosphere was oppressively heavy.
Even with the window open, the car still felt stuffy and suffocating.
Maybe it was because she wanted her sister to stay in S City, to live a better life with her.
But her sister just wanted to go back home?
Chi Qingya couldn’t figure it out.
She pulled out her phone. Instead of replying to her friends’ messages about disciplining Su Li, she started typing on her own.
【Yasuyugongshang: Already picked up my sister. Heading to that restaurant you guys mentioned now.】
Chi Qingya remembered her friends had sent the restaurant’s location in the group chat earlier, so finding it wasn’t a problem.
She glanced at Chi Qingyao, unsure if her sister would like the friends she had made.
Given how sociable her sister was, she should probably get along with them, right?
Chi Qingya thought uncertainly.
Her sister had tried introducing her friends before, but Chi Qingya only had vague memories of them. She had spent most of her time studying.
Over time, she had just forgotten those people.
She wondered if her sister still kept in touch with them.
As Chi Qingya mulled over these thoughts, it wasn’t long before they arrived at the entrance of Cloud Canteen.
Chen Tangguan had already sent them the room number.
“Yao Yao, we’re here.”
Chi Qingya gently shook Chi Qingyao, who slowly opened her eyes.
“Sis, the big city really lives up to its name. Even the restaurants are decorated so stylishly.”
She stared at the cotton candy-shaped string lights in the Cloud Canteen’s photo, her pupils lit up by the screen, sparkling like someone had just tossed a handful of star candies into her eyes.
Even as her canvas bag strap slipped from her shoulder to her elbow, Chi Qingyao didn’t bother fixing it.
She pointed at a fluffy cloud-shaped cushion in the distance and asked, “Sis, sis, is that table made of cotton?”
Chi Qingyao’s eyes were full of curiosity, drawing the attention of nearby diners who looked at the two of them with fresh interest.
Feeling the stares of others, Chi Qingya was a bit embarrassed, but she forced herself to stay calm.
“Yao Yao, that’s a table. How could it be made of cotton candy?”
“Sis, are you embarrassed of me? I just saw you looked a bit serious, so I was teasing you.”
“No… no.”
Chi Qingya shook her head.
In truth, she had been thinking that just a moment ago. She had wanted to drag Chi Qingyao out of there as quickly as possible.
But having her sister see right through her, Chi Qingya felt a little awkward.
“Forget it, none of this matters. I’m different from you, Sis.”
“I don’t belong to this city. I’ll be heading back before long.”
Chi Qingyao said dismissively. Her mind was still on going home and taking over her parents’ business.
With the years of experience her parents had already paved the way, at least she wouldn’t have to work as hard.
If there was anything she didn’t understand, she could always ask them.
She wasn’t as smart as Chi Qingya, anyway.
“Hey, Sis, weren’t we going to eat?”
“I’m starving.”
