After taking quite a bit of food from the shelves, Tang Cheng headed toward the Medical Supermarket deeper inside the building.
Last time, he’d met that beautiful Miss Receptionist at the Pharmacy—he wondered if she was still around?
Thinking of her gentle and lovely face, Tang Cheng couldn’t help but get a little excited. He’d get to admire her beauty like a true gentleman (or maybe just a lovesick fool)!
When he arrived at the Pharmacy entrance, the two transparent glass doors were still tightly shut. A zombie was crouched by the door, making low, guttural noises, as if it wanted to get inside.
“Go on, go play somewhere else!”
He pushed the zombie aside with his hand, then opened the door and walked into the Pharmacy.
His gaze swept around the store first, but he didn’t see Miss Receptionist anywhere.
“Is that lady not here anymore?”
He couldn’t help feeling a little disappointed. It was rare to see a Miss Zombie who hadn’t been totally infected by the virus, but now she was gone.
He picked up a medical kit and walked along the rows of medicine shelves, gathering IV medicines, bandages, as well as anti-inflammatory and antibiotic drugs. The air conditioning was still on inside the store, so it was pleasantly cool.
“Creak, creak…”
At that moment, a chewing sound came from behind one of the shelves, as if someone was there…
“Is someone there?”
Tang Cheng called out cautiously, but there was no reply from behind the shelves. Still, the chewing continued, sounding like someone was eating something crispy.
“Who’s over there?”
With a hint of wariness, he carefully crept behind the shelves. There, he saw a petite figure in white squatting in front of a collapsed shelf, her back facing him.
“Miss, so you’re here after all…”
Seeing her slender long hair and graceful figure, Tang Cheng quickly recognized that the girl with her back to him was none other than Mu Xiaoxuan, Miss Receptionist.
But she ignored him, her head lowered, eating something.
“What are you eating?”
Tang Cheng walked over in confusion and saw that she was eating a pile of medicine scattered on the floor—there were pills, granules, capsules, all sorts. The packaging had already been torn open.
“Huh, eating medicine?”
“Aren’t zombies only interested in people? This Miss Zombie… is actually eating medicine?”
His eyes widened in shock. Zombies didn’t even care about food from the supermarket, yet this Miss Zombie was eating medicine?
Was she sick or something?
Looking at the medicine on the ground, there were Ribavirin Granules, Acyclovir Capsules, and so on—all antiviral drugs. Could eating these possibly get rid of the Zombie Virus inside her?
Was this just a coincidence? Or could it be that this Miss Zombie, like him, still had some human consciousness?
“Mu Xiaoxuan?”
He tried calling her name. A name is the strongest memory left in the human mind; maybe she would react.
But Miss Zombie kept gnawing on the medicine in her hands, showing no reaction at all. Her eyes were clear and bright, but also a bit dull and numb, soulless like a zombie.
“No reaction? Was it just a coincidence?”
Tang Cheng crouched down, quietly gazing at the girl in front of him. Her face was sweet and pure, her nose delicate and straight, her bangs softly resting on her forehead. Even as a zombie, she still possessed human beauty and cuteness.
Most zombies became ugly after being bitten—like Tang Cheng’s own left cheek—but this Miss Zombie hadn’t changed at all, except for a few bite marks on her right hand. At first glance, anyone would think she was just an incredibly cute girl.
Speaking of his own kind, Tang Cheng had a feeling that this adorable zombie girl might be the one most like himself!
