Tang Wanyue hurriedly pushed open the door and walked out. After what happened during breakfast, she somewhat started to trust Tang Cheng in her heart.
“Classmate…”
“This is a bag of rice and flour. Take it inside. I’m going up to the fifth floor to get some more food and medicine.”
“You’re really going to the fifth floor?”
Worry immediately appeared on Tang Wanyue’s face for Tang Cheng.
“Yeah, you guys close the door tight, and remember, absolutely don’t go near the corridor.” Most of the zombies on this floor were gathered near the elevator hallway, so Tang Cheng gave Tang Wanyue a very cautious reminder.
“Oh, then you… be careful…” Tang Wanyue hesitated, wanting to stop Tang Cheng from going out and risking himself.
“Alright, I’m going now.” Tang Cheng turned and headed toward the stairwell to the second floor.
Tang Wanyue quietly watched his back, her heart full of doubt. Why wouldn’t this classmate tell her his name? Could it be that he was someone she knew?
Walking through the hallway blocked by zombies, those zombies were just as usual, numbly bumping into the walls, sometimes letting out low groans of “uhh ahh.”
Tang Cheng saw two familiar faces—it was those two Prisoners from before, wandering among the horde of zombies.
He quickly went up to the fifth floor via the stairs, pushed a cart, and began picking out some non-perishable food in the supermarket.
At this moment, he was the only living person walking by the shelves in the vast supermarket. All the goods were his for the taking. Although, just like before, the place was still crowded, but now all those people were zombies!
Just as he put a bag of rice and some salt into the cart, he heard a familiar voice.
“Excuse me, excuse me, cleaning in progress…”
A round, barrel-shaped cleaning robot was spinning the blades at its base, stopping right in front of Tang Cheng.
“Ah, right, I almost forgot you guys were still around.”
Tang Cheng quickly stepped aside to make way for the cleaning robot. The 22nd century was an era of rapid AI robot development, and all kinds of robots had become an indispensable part of human life.
Even now, the reason F City’s power hadn’t gone out was because the nuclear and hydroelectric power plants were all operated by highly intelligent robots. So even if humanity was wiped out, this world’s power grid could keep running for a long time.
Just as Tang Cheng was thinking about this, a huge horde of zombies suddenly surged out from behind the shelves, rushing straight toward Tang Cheng.
“Eh? What’s going on?!”
“Did they sense my presence?”
The situation suddenly turned dangerous. Tang Cheng wanted to dodge, but it seemed too late. The zombies, groaning “uhh ahh,” swarmed in groups, but instead of attacking Tang Cheng, they shoved him aside and charged straight after the cleaning robot.
“That’s it, it’s the robot’s voice!”
Sound could attract zombies!
Tang Cheng pressed himself against the shelves, feeling frustrated. He had almost been trampled by that mob just now. Only then did he realize that it was the cleaning robot’s voice that had drawn the supermarket’s zombies over.
However, the zombies just kept following the cleaning robot, never trying to bite it. Wherever the robot went, they followed, as if only the sound attracted them, and they had no interest in anything non-human.
“Looks like being a robot is pretty safe…”
Tang Cheng rested his chin on his hand and smiled wryly, coming to a conclusion. Maybe, right now, he was like a robot too, since the zombies weren’t interested in him either.
