Bo Jiangxin didn’t seem to notice her. Xiang Di was building up her courage, wondering how to speak up.
Bo Jiangxin’s phone had a privacy screen protector. Xiang Di thought he was using it to look up study materials—otherwise, why would he stare at it so intently, not moving a muscle?
She didn’t dare interrupt, but Bo Jiangxin was already starting to get impatient.
She’d been standing in front of him for dozens of seconds—what exactly was she trying to do?
Being stared at made it uncomfortable even to play with his phone.
Even though the short, silly video he was watching was only a few seconds long, he hadn’t touched the screen.
The canned laughter in his earphones had repeated so many times, it was starting to get on his nerves.
Xiang Di tried to psych herself up in her mind.
Xiang Di, don’t be a coward! Go for it! You’re just delivering a Puff, what are you so afraid of! It’s not like you’re confessing to him!
A cautious voice finally sounded. Bo Jiangxin’s lips quirked ever so slightly.
There was noise at the classroom door too. As luck would have it, Ye Minjia and Zhōu Línxiāo had just returned.
Bo Jiangxin frowned slightly.
Ye Minjia, sharp-eyed and quick-footed, saw Xiang Di standing in front of Bo Jiangxin’s desk, and immediately turned around to leave again—but he forgot Zhōu Línxiāo was still with him, and didn’t know what was going on.
Zhōu Línxiāo walked right over without saying a word. He just lifted his nose and sniffed the air, like a big brown dog with a keen sense of smell.
“What’s that? Smells amazing.”
Xiang Di was surprised at his sense of smell and answered honestly: “………………It’s a Cheese Puff.”
When he heard it was Cheese Puff, Bo Jiangxin’s expression froze for a moment.
He glanced at the paper bag in her hand—it looked very familiar. It was the packaging from the Bakery at the entrance to her neighborhood, no doubt.
Bo Jiangxin could pretty much guess why she’d come to him.
So she still remembered what she’d said herself.
Bo Jiangxin arched an eyebrow, waiting patiently for her to offer the Puff of her own accord.
“Does the school cafeteria sell Cheese Puffs now?” Zhōu Línxiāo asked, “How come I never saw them? Where?”
“They’re not from school,” Xiang Di said, “They’re sold at my place.”
Zhōu Línxiāo made a sound of understanding, but his tone couldn’t hide his disappointment.
He really did sound like a dog whining. Xiang Di couldn’t bear it—she had a soft spot for handsome guys, and couldn’t stand to see one disappointed.
Her brother had bought so many in the first place just so she could share them with classmates.
Bo Jiangxin couldn’t possibly finish them all by himself. If they didn’t get eaten, they’d just go to waste.
So maybe she should do as her brother suggested, and hand out a few?
Luckily she hadn’t given them all to Bo Jiangxin yet, so she asked Zhōu Línxiāo: “Do you want one? I bought a lot.”
His olive-green eyes instantly curved into a bright arc. Zhōu Línxiāo sounded pleasantly surprised: “Thanks.”
Since she’d be giving some to Bo Jiangxin soon, she needed to be careful about hygiene—couldn’t just hand them out.
Fortunately, when Xiang Sheng bought them, he’d asked the Bakery owner for Disposable Gloves. Xiang Di, ever so meticulous, put on the gloves and handed one to Zhōu Línxiāo to try.
Ye Minjia, the little glutton, saw Xiang Di handing out treats again and decided not to leave either. He sidled over, hoping to get in on the action.
Xiang Di said generously, “Class Monitor, do you want one?”
Ye Minjia grinned, “Of course.”
Two boys stuffed the Cheese Puffs into their mouths at the same time.
The moment they bit through the outer shell, the cream filling, rich with the aroma of cheese, instantly filled their mouths.
They exchanged glances and almost spoke in unison: “Delicious.”
Seeing how much they liked them, Xiang Di was happy too.
She was suddenly grateful her brother had bought so many, and also felt a little guilty that at first she’d only thought about buying for Bo Jiangxin and forgotten to share with her friends in class.
If she’d only bought one, there’s no way she’d have shared—it all would’ve gone to Bo Jiangxin.
Ah, favoring love over friendship, she scolded herself for three seconds.
For her dear brother’s sake, she decided not to send him any of those wild sibling doujinshi.
The two boys’ soft exclamations woke Liang Qianqian from her nap. Not sure what was happening, her nose was instantly captivated by the scent of Puff.
Xiang Di: “Qian Qian, want a Puff?”
Liang Qianqian’s eyes lit up: “Yes!”
After giving one to Qian Qian, Xiang Di looked over at Bo Jiangxin again.
Now was the perfect chance to talk—she could use the excuse of handing out Puffs to pass one to him without it seeming deliberate.
But as soon as she saw his cold profile, she hesitated again.
She decided to give some to the others first. She’d leave all the rest for Bo Jiangxin, so he could eat them quietly by himself and wouldn’t be disturbed.
A few other girls she was close with were woken up by the commotion as well.
Xiang Di counted the remaining Puffs, made sure she left enough for Bo Jiangxin, and gave one to each girl.
Ye Minjia, dissatisfied with just one, brazenly went over and asked for another.
Bo Jiangxin watched the scene of everyone snatching Puffs with an expressionless face.
Weren’t the Puffs meant for him? Was he just overthinking it?
Whatever, he’d wait—others first, himself second. Bo Jiangxin looked away indifferently.
Getting another Puff from Xiang Di, Ye Minjia was surprised at how tasty it was. This time, he couldn’t bear to wolf it down, so he just nibbled slowly.
Ye Minjia truly admired Bo Jiangxin—how could he always resist joining in the fun? Sitting at Wang Sicheng’s desk, he asked him, “Aren’t you going to ask Xiang Di for a Puff?”
Bo Jiangxin: “No need.”
She bought them for him anyway; he didn’t need to ask—she’d naturally bring one to him.
Ye Minjia saw how uninterested he looked and decided to tease him. He deliberately waved his half-eaten Puff in front of Bo Jiangxin’s face. Sure enough, Bo Jiangxin frowned and leaned his head away in disgust.
“Don’t hand me something you’ve already bitten into.”
Ye Minjia knew he’d react that way, so he stuffed the rest of the Puff in his own mouth.
With his mouth full of cream, he said, “Come on, don’t be so proud at a time like this—just ask Xiang Di for a Puff, she’ll definitely give you one. Seriously, I’m not lying, it’s really good! The cream inside isn’t greasy at all—just the right balance of sweet and savory.”
Bo Jiangxin’s lips twitched as he said flatly, “I don’t need you to tell me what it tastes like—I’ve already tried it.”
Ye Minjia: “You have? When?”
Bo Jiangxin simply raised his brows in a way that said, “Figure it out yourself.”
“I tried it before you did.”
Ye Minjia: …
You could rarely hear any emotion in his voice, but—was he… showing off?
Well, that made sense. They’d dated before, so it wasn’t surprising Bo Jiangxin had eaten Puff. No wonder he was so calm now.
You little rascal. Not only did you secretly date, but you even ate everything yourself and didn’t share.
He used to worry about Bo Jiangxin’s grades being affected after the breakup, even wanted to help them get back together.
Turns out, he’d worried for nothing.
Ye Minjia tsked, “What’s there to be proud of?”
Just a dumped ex-boyfriend.
Right then, the Math Teacher walked in from the office and was surprised at how lively 97 Class was during lunch break.
But since he wasn’t their homeroom teacher, he didn’t need to enforce break-time discipline.
The Math Teacher went straight to Bo Jiangxin: “Bo Jiangxin, come here a moment. I just got a new set of Mock Exam Papers, but there seem to be some issues with the answers. Come to the office and help me take a look.”
For good students, teachers are always happy to discuss questions. Bo Jiangxin was used to being asked, so he got up right away: “Coming.”
Ye Minjia immediately patted Bo Jiangxin: “Maybe it’s the test we have next week—try to sneak out a few questions for me!”
At the same time, he was plotting in his mind.
[I’m definitely getting full marks on math this time!!!]
Bo Jiangxin pretended not to hear Ye Minjia’s schemes. Before leaving the classroom, he glanced at Xiang Di, who was surrounded by a group of girls.
She’d better remember to save him two.
After Bo Jiangxin left with the Teacher, Ye Minjia’s seat was still occupied by Xiang Di. He couldn’t get back, so he just kept sitting at Wang Sicheng’s desk, savoring the flavor of the Puff.
Wang Sicheng never took naps. Every lunch break, he’d go hang out somewhere—no idea where he got the energy.
Speak of the devil—Wang Sicheng came back.
It was spring, and the heaters were off, but it was still pretty chilly outside.
Yet this sun-loving guy wasn’t afraid of the cold, coming back drenched in sweat, wearing just a sleeveless Basketball Uniform and hugging a basketball.
Seeing the Class Monitor in his seat, Wang Sicheng didn’t mind.
He showed off with a self-assured shooting motion, tossing his basketball to the back of the classroom.
Noticing a crowd around a desk, he immediately went over to see the excitement.
Craning his neck to look inside—so Xiang Di had brought good things to eat.
Unlike the shyer boys who were embarrassed to ask girls for food, Wang Sicheng was naturally thick-skinned and sociable.
Even though he wasn’t that close to Xiang Di, he shamelessly went over and asked for food.
After playing basketball all noon, he really needed to refuel. Wang Sicheng sidled up to Xiang Di and said with a grin, “I want one too.”
Some girls nearby suddenly noticed the smell of sweat and, glancing over, voiced their disgust at once.
“Wang Sicheng, you’re all sweaty! Gross.”
They hated sweaty boys the most; the other girls immediately moved away.
Before Xiang Di could react, a sweaty hand that had just gripped a basketball reached straight into the fragrant paper bag.
She might not be as much of a clean freak as Bo Jiangxin, but… still, this was a bit much.
Suddenly, she understood Bo Jiangxin’s obsession with cleanliness. Xiang Di frowned and looked at the boy resentfully: “Hey, did you wash your hands after basketball?”
Wang Sicheng froze. “Forgot.”
Liang Qianqian was immediately angry: “Wang Sicheng, do you have any manners? Didn’t even wash your hands before grabbing someone else’s food?”
Wang Sicheng hadn’t even thought about it. If another boy had said it, he’d have just laughed it off, but being called out by a girl, even his thick skin couldn’t save him from embarrassment.
Xiang Di: “I give up.”
Liang Qianqian said exasperatedly, “The boys in our class just don’t care about hygiene—oh, except Bo Jiangxin.”
Ye Minjia spoke up: “Hey, don’t generalize everyone’s behavior, ok?”
“What now, I already grabbed it…” With everyone criticizing him, Wang Sicheng looked to Xiang Di, trying to make amends: “Where’d you buy these Puffs? Give me your share, I’ll buy you more later.”
Xiang Di replied flatly, “You can’t buy these. They’re only sold near my place.”
A girl’s cold, angry face was so different from usual that Wang Sicheng got a little scared. “How much were they? I’ll pay you back.”
“Forget it. Just remember to wash your hands next time you eat.” Since he was sincerely sorry, Xiang Di decided not to push it.
She handed the remaining Puffs to Wang Sicheng. “Anyway, I didn’t pay for them—they’re all yours.”
