A group of people had been discussing atop the mountain for over half an hour before Fran finally arrived, panting and out of breath.
“Sorry I’m late.”
She plopped herself down next to Lucia, eyeing the Moon Rabbit lying belly-up in Lucia’s arms, unable to help raising an eyebrow.
Someone was taking advantage of her little sister, and Fran found it a bit disgraceful, but she just said, “Phew~ I’m exhausted! Why don’t they install a cable car up this mountain?”
Clara muttered under her breath, “A cable car? With this little bump? At best you could call it a hillock, strictly speaking, it’s just some undulating rainforest.”
The lunar crater outside the Dome—that was a real mountain.
“Let’s talk about tomorrow’s plan.”
Fran placed her white pistol on the table.
Inside the gun barrel’s syringe was a poison as green as demon’s blood.
“This is the virus…”
The assassin tool Fran brought looked rather dangerous, and everyone subconsciously stepped back.
She reassured them, “Don’t worry~ This is a special virus made specifically to target the Moon Rabbits. It’s harmless to humans, see? And it only affects these genetically modified Moon Rabbits in the resort.”
The original Moon Rabbits survive in a vacuum, so the virus probably couldn’t even live there, right?
As she spoke, Fran glanced at the Moon Rabbit combat unit in Lucia’s arms and smiled, “So, the next mission will be up to this little guy, then?”
“Can’t we use the one we already caught?”
“It gave its life for science, ehehe~”
After all, to make a virus, you need a test bunny.
Take a deadly toxin to the Moon Rabbits’ nest and release it—just like how cockroach poison works.
Moon Rabbit combat unit.
Tomorrow, they would be sent on a suicidal mission.
In front of the guest area’s path.
It wasn’t until they were about to part that Clara mustered up the courage to say, “Fran, Lucia, how about… you both stay at my place tonight?”
To ensure Lucia and Fran’s safety, Clara took the initiative to invite them.
She really didn’t want to wake up to find the two of them had already returned to Central City.
But even if she asked them all to spend the night in her guest room, there was only one bed.
And don’t forget, Sista needed a place to stay, too.
Four people sharing one room—now that would be a challenge.
“Actually, that was our plan too~”
Lucia nodded, then squinted her eyes, grumbling in frustration.
“It’s all because of the Fourth Calamity! Now I’m not going to get any sleep! But if I could hold onto Senior Clara, maybe I’d feel a bit better…”
Fran only said, “But we have to go back and wash up first, we’ll come over later—see you soon~”
As she spoke, she linked arms with Lucia and headed to their own guest room.
With the live broadcast plan over, Sista didn’t have to keep up any pretenses for the camera, nor did she have to return to the Azure Cavalry’s guest room and fly over in the middle of the night to sleep.
But Clara still didn’t feel comfortable leaving her alone, so she brought her back too.
Back at the room—time to wash up.
Since she’d already taken a bath before the courage test event, Clara just did a quick rinse, not bothering with a soak, and was out in less than ten minutes, letting Sista go in next.
“Don’t stay in too long, and keep alert even in the shower.”
Clara, now in her pajamas, knocked on the folding screen between the bathroom and bedroom, reminding her.
“Got it.” Sista replied.
Just thinking about that unpredictable Ps·ycho made Clara feel like eyes were stabbing into her back.
The open design meant the bathroom steam drifted into the bedroom, but since the balcony and bedroom were also open, the mist soon floated outside.
[You sure are hasty, even just taking a shower.]
At this moment, Nyx was using a little tentacle to hold the hairdryer, helping Clara dry her wet black hair, while also taking the chance to analyze the situation.
[As long as you heroes are dealt with, and with no outside contact possible, the Fourth Calamity’s rabbits could devour this entire resort—that’s their goal.]
“No need to analyze something that obvious~”
[Nyx believes that the Sigma series wiped out the Moon Rabbits’ vital forces, and you destroyed two rabbit nests. Moon Rabbit breeding must be in trouble now.]
[They’re targeting Azure Cavalry now to make us panic and go on the defensive, giving the Moon Rabbits more room to act.]
“So, we can’t give up on taking the initiative, right?”
Honestly, Clara didn’t care what happened to the resort.
This was already a company-level dispute.
Technically, “Nytmare” should be stepping in, not her, the so-called “undercover hero,” facing the “Fourth Calamity” head-on.
They sent an executive over—there might even be a second one hiding on the island!
Could Clara handle that? Of course not. She simply didn’t have that kind of power.
[You could request support from Nytmare.]
“Fran said she’d report it to President Chessia… but even if she does, with this solar storm raging, neither the president nor the Commander-in-Chief can make it here, right?”
[You’re a hero. You have to rely on your own strength more.]
“I’m no hero—I just want to protect Fran and Lucia.”
Clara hugged her Moon Rabbit data unit on the bed, glancing at the sound of running water from the bathroom.
…Sista too, I want to protect her, if possible.
[Clara, when you fight to protect something, that makes you a hero already.]
The boy who once dreamed of being a hero now denied ever having been one; all that passion from back then—she couldn’t find a trace of it anymore.
“What about Sista and the others?” Clara asked.
As artificial humans, they were instilled with ideals of justice. That kind of thinking was like a castle in the sky, yet it became their driving force.
…Because, they have no other road to walk.
[Heroes are judged by their deeds, not their hearts—they’re heroes too, of course.]
That was enough about heroes.
Knock knock—
Ding dong—
There was a chorus of knocks and the doorbell downstairs, but before Clara could go down and open up, Fran pushed the door open and walked in—even though there wasn’t a magnetic key in her hand.
“Senior Clara, we’re here to bother you!”
Lucia followed behind her, both girls clutching pillows and blankets.
“So, how are we sleeping tonight?”
Fran asked, then added, “Just to be clear—I don’t want to sleep on the sofa.”
The guest bed wasn’t small, but it definitely wasn’t as big as the one in the dorm’s main bedroom. Four people couldn’t fit, even sideways—it would still be cramped.
“Then, Sista and I will take the sofa,” Clara said.
“Ohh, Senior Clara and Sista… mmm…”
For some reason, Lucia clamped her nose excitedly, as if she were about to have a nosebleed.
Fran said, “How about we sleep on the floor instead? It’s safer for everyone to stay in the bedroom. We can just ask the staff for more futons.”
“No need to trouble the staff! I’ll just go grab some from our room!”
Lucia said this, and then dashed out the door in a hurry.
“She’s going off on her own… is that safe?”
Clara was a bit worried for her sister’s safety, but Fran reassured her:
“It’s just next door, such a short distance—she’ll be fine!”
With Fran’s guarantee—
Clara felt even more anxious.
