The corners of Gabriella’s lips curved into a sly smile.
Loli was such a pitiful girl. For the past few days, Gabriella had been looking for chances to get closer to her.
She had infused [Shadow] into Loli’s body. It would reshape her—since Loli was going to fade away soon, turning her into a suitable race would solve everything, wouldn’t it?
Saying it was “for the evil god” wasn’t because she had truly submitted to the evil god.
She was simply finding a proper excuse for her own corrupted actions.
That had to be it.
Yet the moment she saw Loli’s body beginning to transform into an apostle, her heart raced and every cell in her body seemed to stir with excitement, as if she had just done something incredibly pleasurable!
It was almost as if assimilating more apostles for her Master was an honor for her~
Gabriella was momentarily shocked by her own terrifying thought.
What left her even more hopeless was that she wasn’t all that shocked.
When Loli bowed her head and declared her loyalty to the evil god, the vague sense of despair vanished, replaced by pride and joy.
“Yes, Master Gabriella. I will serve the evil god together with you.”
Loli tilted her head with a smile.
“Good girl.”
“I will always protect you and the evil god, so please rest easy.”
Gabriella’s mood lightened considerably. “Mm.”
When Isabella walked up from behind and wrapped her arms around her waist, all those complicated feelings melted away completely.
“Humanity’s destruction is only a matter of time. No one can stop you from ending the world~”
“My wife? Your body…”
“Mm.”
Gabriella shook her head. “I’m fine.”
“Don’t scare me like that, my wife. I thought your condition had gotten worse again.”
“Am I really as fragile as you imagine?”
Gabriella puffed out her cheeks.
“Not at all~ My wife is the strongest!”
“Good. Now focus on your work, you idiot.”
“Got it~”
Gabriella’s voice was firm and righteous, yet for the rest of the walk she was still supported by the Demon King all the way back.
The first snowflake of winter would never fall on the Demon King’s Castle.
Inside the Eternal Night Palace, the Demon King sat upon her throne, reviewing the reports from the demons who had come to deliver them.
Four guard maids stood to her left and right, including Gabriella.
All of them radiated a dangerous aura.
Because of the war, there weren’t many soldiers stationed here—only the occasional demon patrol gliding through the air to deliver frontline updates to the Demon King.
Most of the demon guards were burly, muscle-bound monsters.
Mid-tier demons had yet to evolve into the elegant forms of high-tier demons.
Even while carrying a child, Gabriella still caught snippets of the tense situation at the front lines.
The demon known as Vina stepped forward, knelt on one knee, and reported the frontline situation to Isabella.
Isabella rested her chin on her hand and issued a series of rather conservative decisions.
Gabriella lowered her head, not daring to keep watching Isabella’s eyes.
Although the Demon King didn’t want her involved in this war, the truth was that from the moment she had intervened and faked her defeat, she had become inextricably linked to the conflict between humans and demons.
In other words, she couldn’t let Isabella face everything alone—especially not in the current situation.
Could that idiot Isabella really handle it?
Gabriella’s answer was yes. Isabella was a wise ruler.
After the rebel army incident—once Gabriella had eliminated every traitor who could threaten the Demon King—Isabella had implemented a series of policies that allowed the demon race to flourish even more.
If the war Vina described truly broke out, even without the high-tier demons from the residential palace joining the fight, the humans might not win.
Yet Gabriella didn’t think she should leave everything to the Demon King.
Getting pregnant and resting to recover had, in reality, left the Demon King with a messy situation that was hard to clean up.
Wanting peace had been Gabriella’s own demand. Wanting a child had been her own pursuit.
So the more she watched Isabella make those slightly hesitant, conservative decisions, the more self-reproach Gabriella felt.
She didn’t even realize the audience had ended.
Only when the three guard maids and Isabella all turned to look at her did Gabriella snap back to the present. “Mm, I understand.”
It was time for them to leave the Eternal Night Palace and return to the residential palace.
Gabriella lowered her head.
Back in the residential palace, Gabriella changed out of her maid uniform and lay down on the bed under Isabella’s watchful gaze.
A series of scenes flashed through her mind—scenes of her helping the evil god destroy humanity.
If those terrifying thoughts were merely a warning of disaster or just idle imaginings of humanity’s downfall, they would have been nothing more than a fleeting emotional hiccup before a nap.
The problem was that she felt no resistance at all to the idea of helping the evil god destroy humanity.
“Why… why…”
She had been changed into her current self by the evil god’s shadow without even realizing it.
She hadn’t hesitated for a second when she used shadow to erode Loli either.
Lost in thought, Gabriella drifted off to sleep.
When her consciousness cleared again, the moonlight outside the window was hazy.
The curtains fluttered in the breeze, gently brushing her delicate, porcelain-like skin.
Soft, whispering voices reached her ears.
“Your Majesty, the reason I came to see you is that I still want to make things clear.”
It was Olivia’s voice.
Gabriella looked toward the bedroom door.
Her mother was standing outside with Isabella, discussing something.
They were keeping their voices low, afraid of disturbing her sleep, but Gabriella could still hear every word clearly.
“Mm, Mom~ What’s the matter?”
“It’s still about my daughter. Just like you, I’m very worried about the future.”
“Mm.”
“The heavenly oracle envoys are awakening one after another. They will gradually show hostility toward you, just as I once did. But they aren’t as gentle or as willing to try as Philina and I were.”
“So a few more heavenly oracle envoys have awakened, right.”
“Yes.”
Olivia’s voice was heavy.
She hadn’t shown any hostility toward her Master. Gabriella wondered if the two of them had already become friends in private.
She even called Olivia “Mom.”
Wasn’t that proof of their relationship?
Master really is an idiot.
“Just as we discussed last time, Your Majesty, after careful consideration I believe one of your proposals is worth considering.”
“Send Gabriella to the Church. That way the heavenly oracle envoys won’t…”
