“It’s already this late, and you still want to drink!”
Herkate suddenly thought that this white-haired loli in front of her might essentially be a booze-obsessed monster in disguise!
Who gets sick and refuses to see a doctor, choosing to drown themselves in alcohol instead?
Wanting to die faster because dying slowly isn’t enough?
“Just a mere human, don’t think you can boss me around!”
Originally a little frantic, Herkate’s instincts took over, and she turned cold and ruthless:
“Come with me obediently to the monastery. Of course, the mortal clinic or the priest’s church will do as well.”
“Ugh…”
Seeing that the catgirl truly wouldn’t budge, Vyea could only fall silent:
“…You could also go buy some wine first, then come back. Otherwise, tonight I’ll have made the trip for nothing, and after all this trouble, I won’t even get to see her… hehe… I really am useless.”
“Don’t bother with me. Just leave this useless person to fend for herself here. Maybe a kind citizen will pick me up later.”
Between going to the medical institution to wait for the clergy to check her condition and the minor liquefaction in her body caused by rejection reactions, Vyea chose to give up.
There was no other choice.
Her body’s self-protection mechanism was too strong. Once she used that extreme heroic power, her body’s defense system would automatically trigger.
Just like the human body’s defense mechanism.
Vyea’s body was constantly trying to assimilate the golden Hero’s Mark on her chest.
But in doing so, she was the one who suffered.
“Ah… really!”
Herkate scooped up the girl leaning against the wall and realized her body was fluctuating between hot and cold, with a softness that didn’t feel human at all.
After finally meeting a decent human, was she about to lose her again?
Herkate, overwhelmed with sorrow, choked up as she asked softly:
“When you die, can I bury you in my palace? Don’t worry, I’ll use the best coffin!”
“This is just a side effect from using my power! I won’t die!”
Vyea tried to punch the catgirl but didn’t even have the strength to lift her arm.
“Really?” the catgirl asked again.
“…”
Drowsy and unwilling to talk, Vyea remained silent.
“Then I’ll take you to see a doctor!”
Herkate hugged the soft little girl tighter, doing her best to keep her steps steady so she wouldn’t get jostled.
“No…”
Vyea forced herself to stay awake, trying to avoid suddenly turning into a sticky Slime-girl.
That gooey, semi-liquid state was truly unpleasant to look at.
A bit obsessive-compulsive and slightly perfectionist, Vyea refused to become like that.
“Give me the wine.”
“Okay, okay, I’ll take you back to drink. Just don’t die on me. If you do, I’ll feed your corpse to the big dogs.”
You just said you’d bury me in your palace…
Vyea wanted to retort but fell into a deep sleep on the catgirl’s back.
Shortly after they left, another group arrived.
If Vyea were still awake, she would definitely recognize them as the Demon Hunter Knights who had searched her room before.
“Captain, shouldn’t we wait for the Capital’s heroes to handle such a powerful monster? I’m worried…” a young knight said with concern.
The captain shook his head and looked around:
“That powerful monster has already left, and the destruction here is too severe to find any useful clues.”
He then turned to the knight crouching and examining the ground:
“Old Rodel, did you find anything?”
“Nothing important,” Rodel, nicknamed Old Rodel, rubbed some dirt from under his fingernails and said with a frown:
“But I noticed that this powerful monster left no traces when it came, but there are signs of its departure.”
“A trap to lure trackers?”
Another brown-haired knight with abundant demon-hunting experience said solemnly:
“The stronger the monster, the higher its intelligence. And the smarter the monster, the more cunning it is.”
He continued with a heavy expression: “The blood scent here is very strong; there must have been many casualties. Captain!”
Suddenly, the brown-haired knight exclaimed and pointed at a collapsed house: “Look, there’s a tunnel there!”
The captain raised his hand to calm the restless knights, his eyes dark and deep.
He knew this territory was under the Night Watchers’ control.
The Night Watchers and their Demon Hunter Order were different factions. The Demon Hunter Order was a staunch ‘kill all monsters on sight’ group.
The Night Watchers, however, secretly captured smuggled monsters, then tried to tame and breed them for their own use.
In the captain’s memory, news of monster rampages had even occurred on Night Watchers’ turf in other towns, sometimes making the front page of the Rodel Gazette!
A bunch of people lost in their thirst for power.
Thinking of this, the captain sneered:
Monsters were nothing but beasts, completely undisciplined and governed by instinct, fiercely hostile to humans. Even if a few had some intelligence, they were exceptions and didn’t mean much.
Taming was just a delusion fueled by selfish desires.
Many nobles had a fetish for playing with monsters, especially those humanoid ones with less aggressive temperaments, who were most favored among the aristocracy.
Whenever the captain thought of this, he felt utterly ashamed to share humanity with those nobles!
“Captain, shall we go in and check it out?”
The brown-haired knight asked.
“Yes, of course we must,” the captain replied, his face grim: “So what if it’s the Night Watchers’ territory? We’re not afraid of them!”
At the captain’s command, the Demon Hunter Knights dispatched an elite squad into the tunnel, while the others guarded the perimeter, scouting or setting up temporary tents.
As for the traces left by the supposedly powerful monster’s departure—they treated it as a trap and ignored it.
They would make plans once reinforcements from other forces arrived.
Under the thick, impenetrable night, Herkate ran with the human girl on her back.
Her natural keen senses allowed her to easily evade the human forces rushing toward the incident site.
Her cream-colored, smooth, and shapely legs were not only beautiful but also strong, enabling her to leap over high walls and absorb the extra shock from running and jumping at high speeds.
“After finding the wine, if I don’t wake up, soak my hand in it…”
Recalling the girl’s instruction, Herkate was genuinely puzzled: Could Vyea really be a monster booze-obsessed creature?
No, the booze bug born from human desires was colorless, tasteless, and formless. It reproduced rapidly and lived by parasitizing humans.
The more alcohol the parasitized human drank, the fatter they got. When they reached the limit, the human and the booze bug would explode together, leaving nothing behind.
Vyea clearly didn’t fit that profile.
And her figure was noticeably too thin compared to typical thirteen- or fourteen-year-old human girls, not matching the image of one parasitized by booze bugs.
“Phew… I’ll have to make sure she eats well in the future. Humans who are too thin easily get sick. It’s best to be plump and healthy… meow.”
Herkate thought happily to herself.
Suddenly, the running catgirl’s pupils contracted. She skidded to a sudden stop in an incredible stance, then spun to dodge!
Crack!
A massive, slicing crack spread across the ground before Herkate, as if cut by an invisible giant scythe.
The purple-haired, purple-eyed Brave hovered in midair, holding a huge scythe, her cloak fluttering fiercely.
Herkate slowly raised her head, her golden-red eyes meeting the Brave’s, an unfathomable savagery brewing within them.
“Heh, I always suspected you weren’t an ordinary cat-type demi-human. The commotion tonight has something to do with you, right?”
Lania’s beautiful purple eyes were cold as she said:
“Put her down. I can make an exception and let you leave.”
