โWeโre leaving, weโre leavingโฆโ
โNo matter what, theyโre still the Drago family. What on earth is that demon thinkingโฆโ
After Sephina declared her authority, some of the demons muttered among themselves as they left, leaving only a few behind to observe the aftermath.
Sephina ignored them, turning and leading Lin Shu into the shop.
Inside, chaos reignedโclothes were trampled and stained, mixed with shards of broken glass, and the tables and chairs lay toppled and scattered across the floor.
Lin Shu stepped forward and helped a few of the shop assistants out of their restraints.
โThank you.โ
Now free, the half-blood shop assistants regarded Lin Shu with curiosity, but still reported first to Sephina:
โMiss, they arrived about an hour ago. Usually, the Tempus family would send security, but there was no support today.โ
โI see. The situation has changed.โ Sephina nodded.
Another assistant came over eagerly: โMiss, was that bramble skill just now something you learned? It felt so different.โ
Sephina smiled faintly, then turned her head, her gentle gaze landing on Lin Shu behind her:
โNo, she gave it to me.โ
Lifting the hem of her maidโs skirt, Lin Shu stepped over the scattered shards of glass and helped right a fallen clothing rack.
After she moved aside a toppled cabinet, a small black object caught Lin Shuโs attention.
โHuh? Whatโs thisโฆโ
Curious, Lin Shu crouched down and carefully brushed aside the debris. Only then did she realizeโit was a furry, strip-shaped object.
A tail?
It was thin, and the fur wasnโt long. It looked just like a catโs tail. Was it a decorative piece?
Lin Shuโs first thought was that it was a tail accessory from the store. You know, the kind you attach to your back when cosplaying.
She was just about to pick it up, but the moment she touched it, the cat tail suddenly sprang upright as if it had come alive.
Eh?! The tail stood up!
Lin Shu stared in shock, and before she could react, the detached cat tail suddenly sprang up and landed right on the collar of her maid outfit.
โWah!!โ Lin Shu yelped and jumped back.
The soft touch slid over her chest, and the cat tail felt strangely warm against her skin, almost as if it was alive.
โYikesโฆ!!โ Lin Shu reached to pull it out, but the cat tail was extremely agile, slipping between the curves and burrowing downward.
She could feel the tip of the tail curling up, nestling just above her heart.
What a terrible spot QwQ
The fuzzy sensation brushed against her skin, making her itch.
โWhatโs wrong?โ Sephina, who was talking with the assistants, turned around when she heard the commotion and asked.
โItโs nothing, Master. Thereโs just a strange cat tailโฆโ
Lin Shuโs cheeks flushed, her gaze involuntarily flicking down to her chest.
Sephina looked at the slight bulge in Lin Shuโs clothes, raising an eyebrow. Who knew if she was marveling at the cat tailโs excellent choice of location.
Noticing the small bit of tail still peeking out from the collar, Sephina reached out her finger: โLet me help you.โ
Her fingertips slipped into the collar, reaching toward Lin Shuโs chest.
โWhat are they doing?!! Shameless! Lewd! Absolutely disgraceful!โ
From a distant platform, Liya watched Sephina and Lin Shuโs interaction, bristling with outrage.
She had come to witness the downfall of the Drago family, but what did she see instead?!
Lin Shu and Sephina had driven off the troublemakers together, and now, in full view of the public, they were standing so closeโeven reaching into each otherโs clothes!!
Although the distance made it impossible for Liya to see the details or hear what they were saying, she could clearly see their movementsโwithout a hint of hesitation or awkwardness.
A surge of anger shattered Liyaโs composure. She strode to the edge of the high platform, almost ready to charge over.
โYoung Miss!โ The butler hurriedly grabbed her. โYou mustnโt show yourself, or itโll affect the reputation of the Tempus family.โ
Liya lowered her head, her face dark, her teeth grinding audibly.
The butler continued to counsel her: โThough the hired troublemakers were driven away this time, most of the Drago familyโs shops have already been ruined. Without funds, itโll be hard for them to carry on.โ
His tone remained as calm as possible, but sweat was already breaking out on his forehead.
Now he finally understoodโYoung Missโs anger was because of that human Familiar who had left her.
For years, that Familiar had fought and bled for Young Miss, and everyone knew her feelings for Liya. Yet it seemed Young Miss had never returned those feelings.
After all, she was just a human, and Young Missโs subordinate at that.
But it was rare to see Young Miss this enraged.
Ah, heโd have to ask the kitchen maids to add some loofah soup to the blood meals tonight.
Liya took a deep breath, trying to calm herself.
โThe Drago familyโs foundation is weakโtheyโll fall into crisis soon enough. Lin Shu will understand, sooner or later.โ Liya muttered to herself, as if trying to comfort her own heart.
She stared at that distant figure in the maidโs skirt: โYouโll come back, Lin Shu.โ
*****
After Sephina pulled the cat tail out, the mischievous thing flicked the tip against her hand, then with a swish darted back to Lin Shu and wrapped itself around her wrist.
The black cat tail formed a fuzzy bracelet, affectionately rubbing against Lin Shuโs hand.
โIt seems it really likes you.โ Sephina smiled, her eyes full of interest.
โWhat on earth is this creature?โ Lin Shu raised her wrist, watching the tail behave like a small animal, and couldnโt help but ask.
โIt looks like a part of a beastkinโs body. Itโs detached from its host but seems to have its own consciousness. Let it stay for now. Maybe its owner is still nearby.โ
Lin Shu blinked in surprise, her curiosity piqued.
Beastkin? But this was demon territory.
Could it be a beastkin accidentally wandered in and, during the chaos, lost its tail in the shop?
While she was lost in thought, Sephina naturally stepped forward and straightened Lin Shuโs collar.
โLetโs go, little cutie.โ She turned to lead the way. โLetโs check out that tavern on the other side of the capital.โ
Lin Shu responded and followed at her side.
As they stepped out the shop door, Lin Shu suddenly felt a strong gaze focused on her, as if someone were staring intently.
Huh? Who could that be?
Instinctively, Lin Shu turned her head and looked toward the distant building across the street.
There, standing on the high platform, was Liya.
Lin Shu paused, slightly startled, her steps slowing.
That familiar silhouette, now separated from her by such a vast distance.
So it was her. The Drago shop had been thrown into chaos tonightโof course the proud Liya would show up to see her handiwork.
In the distance, Liya also met Lin Shuโs gaze, clenching her hands tightly.
She knew Lin Shu was looking at her, but couldnโt see her expression clearly.
The anger that had boiled inside just moments before suddenly drained away.
What Liya didnโt know was that, in her eyes as she stared at Lin Shu, there was now a trace of unwillingnessโand something almost like longing.
โWhat is it?โ Sephina had already climbed into the carriage and was calling back.
โโฆItโs nothing.โ Lin Shu withdrew her gaze and answered quietly.
She bent down and slipped into the carriage, no longer lingering on that distant look.
