After finishing her meal, Su Li cleaned the lunchbox that Miss Cat had given her.
Not long after leaving the cafeteria, she received a call from an unknown number.
Without much thought, Su Li immediately hung up.
She wasn’t in the habit of answering calls from strangers, especially those she didn’t know.
Most unknown calls were either advertisements or attempts to sell her things she didn’t need.
Answering those calls was nothing but a waste of time.
But shortly after hanging up, the phone rang again.
She hung up several times, yet the caller persisted.
After much deliberation, Su Li finally answered.
Few people had her number; most clients contacted her through vx.
“Su Li, why aren’t you answering my calls?”
“Where are you right now? I need to see you!”
“I want to see you immediately! Come to me right now!”
“Can you hear me? Hello, talk to me!”
The voice on the other end was loud, not even giving Su Li a chance to speak.
She instantly recognized the voice as MOKA’s, guessing this must be MOKA’s private number.
MOKA had never been so reckless as to contact her on her personal phone before. Even when necessary, it was through her assistant to arrange a meeting somewhere secluded.
Perhaps because she was drunk, MOKA had directly called her.
And the intervals between MOKA requesting her services seemed to be getting shorter.
MOKA’s desire for her was growing.
Su Li didn’t think there was anything particularly addictive about herself. If anything made clients keep coming back, it must have been the quality of her services.
But now, it seemed MOKA regarded her as some kind of emotional anchor, a remedy for her soul.
“Where shall we meet this time?” Su Li asked calmly.
She had no classes in the afternoon and had originally planned to go home to spend some time with her cats, but if this was business, it would be a chance to earn some extra money.
The other end gave an address.
It was a high-end residential area in S City.
“Come to me as fast as you can. I want to see you right now!” MOKA commanded, then hung up.
Su Li had intended to say she would be there within thirty minutes at the latest, but it was clear MOKA had no interest in hearing her speak.
So she hailed a car, thinking MOKA must really be drunk. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have contacted her on her private number or even revealed her home address.
MOKA had always been extremely cautious about who knew her personal contact information and home address.
There was no traffic on the road, so Su Li arrived near MOKA’s villa in just ten minutes, following the address to MOKA’s front door.
She pressed the doorbell, and shortly after, the door opened.
A pungent smell of alcohol hit her nose.
The room was pitch dark; all the curtains were drawn with no light filtering through.
Seeing it was Su Li, MOKA groggily stumbled toward the sofa.
Her brown short hair was a mess, part of her bangs stuck to her right eye, while the other eye stared blankly at the ceiling light.
Her pupils were as clouded as spilled whiskey.
For some unknown reason, MOKA suddenly grabbed her phone and opened the Music App, blasting ear-splitting music.
She swayed to the rhythm, nearly falling over.
Su Li caught her just in time.
She hadn’t intended to intervene, only thinking that if MOKA fell down drunk, there was a high chance it would involve her.
The cat at her feet got scared, its fur standing on end, and dashed away.
MOKA laughed, clawing at Su Li’s back and murmuring, “One of my songs is enough to buy ten villas.”
“One song alone could support you for life,” Su Li said quietly, remaining silent.
MOKA’s home was indeed large; many luxury items, whether Su Li recognized them or not, were already gathering dust.
She had met many girls like MOKA—young, famous, and wealthy but clueless about how to manage their lives.
They spent money recklessly like nouveau riche, yet nothing could fill the emptiness inside.
The more they earned, the faster they spent, deepening the void within.
That only increased their need to make more money, and then spend again to relieve the pressure inside.
But spending brought anxiety about the future—worried they wouldn’t make enough money to sustain their lifestyle.
It was a vicious cycle.
Su Li’s analysis wasn’t out of pity for MOKA.
She had dealt with similar clients before, and though their upbringings varied, the patterns of change around the crucial moment of youthful fame were strikingly alike.
What applied to others could also apply to MOKA.
Understanding other clients’ psychology helped her better understand them.
That way, she could highlight her strengths and attract more business.
MOKA was no exception.
Feeling her movement stopped, MOKA’s eyes filled with impatience.
Being restrained sparked a restless frustration inside her, like a dam bursting only to be blocked by a huge rock.
She clutched Su Li and bit hard into her neck.
Only when she felt the warm flow along her lips did the pent-up frustration inside MOKA begin to ease.
A strong, slightly metallic scent with a hint of copper filled her mouth.
The agitated feeling slowly softened.
If she paid close attention, there was even a faint sweetness.
It had been a long time since MOKA had tasted something so sweet.
Her mood eased, but the taste only made her desire it more.
She bit down harder, feeling like a vampire.
An idea flickered in her mind but vanished almost instantly.
“Why, why do I work so hard? The quality of my songs keeps improving.”
“But my agent is never satisfied, even telling me I’m about to be eliminated!”
“I just submitted a new song, and it’s much better than before, but she still wants me to keep creating.”
“But right now… I just can’t write anymore…”
