After dealing with that ridiculous zombie, Lin Mo and the group continued their descent down the stairs.
The fifth-floor hallway was also free of zombies, which made everyone relax a bit.
The outside wasn’t as overrun with zombies as they had imagined—at least the stairwell wasn’t densely packed with them.
However, just as they were thinking this, movement came from below.
“Groooowl-”
A faint, low growl-clearly a zombie.
Lin Mo tensed up and signaled to the two behind him, gesturing for caution.
The two immediately understood, tightening their grips on their weapons as they slowly moved downward.
From their vantage point above, they couldn’t see the zombie, and it hadn’t noticed them yet either, so there was no major disturbance.
When they reached the fourth floor, Lin Mo peeked around the corner to survey the hallway.
Sure enough, a zombie was wandering there— no, wait…
Lin Mo suddenly stiffened. Behind that zombie, deeper in the hallway, was another one!
Two zombies!
Data on both zombies flashed through Lin Mo’s mind, similar to the ones they had encountered earlier.
Two zombies weren’t so easy to deal with. Zhang Yu couldn’t help but feel hesitant.
If it were just one, the three of them could take it down with near certainty.
But two?
That was a different story.
One wrong move, and casualties were likely.
“Maybe… we should keep going down?”
Zhou Kai whispered from the side.
Zhang Yu was tempted by the idea.
Engaging two zombies head-on clearly wasn’t the best choice.
But Lin Mo shook his head.
“No, we have to deal with them now.”
“Why?” Zhou Kai looked at him, puzzled.
“Think about it. If we don’t take care of them now and run into more zombies below, what then? We can’t avoid detection forever. If a fight breaks out and these two are drawn down, we’ll be trapped between them with no escape-certain death!
So not only do we have to kill them, but we also have to do it as quietly as possible. We don’t know if there are zombies on the third floor. If there are, and we make too much noise, they’ll come up, and we’re just as doomed.”
Hearing this, cold sweat broke out on Zhang Yu and Zhou Kai’s foreheads, a wave of dread washing over them.
“But how exactly do we do that?”
Zhou Kai asked, frowning.
Three people, two zombies, and minimal noise-by any measure, this wasn’t an easy task.
Lin Mo also felt the pressure.
He scanned their surroundings, searching for anything that might help.
“Hmm?” Suddenly, his gaze landed on something, and his eyes lit up.
It was a fire safety cabinet.
If Lin Mo remembered correctly, there should be a fire axe inside-far more effective than the makeshift wooden clubs they were carrying.
If they could get their hands on that axe…
Lin Mo’s expression hardened.
With the fire axe, he was confident he could take down one zombie quickly.
Then, the three of them could handle the remaining one without much trouble.
Lin Mo immediately whispered something to the two people beside him.
“Huh?”
Zhou Kai let out a low exclamation halfway through Lin Mo’s words, “This… this is too dangerous, isn’t it?”
“Nothing ventured, nothing gained? This is the apocalypse now. If we just keep hiding in fear, we’ll only end up dead. The only way to survive is to dare to fight and take risks!”
Lin Mo said with firm determination, then tightly gripped the mop handle in his hand and strode out directly…
