Jiang Mengxin remained silent for a moment before moving her hand away, allowing the drawing to be fully revealed.
She said, “Yes.”
“You’re interested in demons that take human form?” Old Wu was slightly surprised.
“I suppose so.” Jiang Mengxin nodded and thought for a moment. “I was wondering… are there any fox demons that take human form?”
Originally, Jiang Mengxin had only asked in passing, without any particular goal in mind.
However, Old Wu squinted his eyes quite seriously and stroked his chin.
This caused Jiang Mengxin’s interest to be piqued slightly.
Old Wu said, “That kind of demon… I’ve never seen one.”
Jiang Mengxin was stunned.
“While there are indeed demons that take human form…” Old Wu thought for a moment and spoke with a grave tone.
“Generally, only powerful demons take human form. For example, the tiger-shaped demon that appeared 100 years ago, or the ox-shaped demon that appeared even earlier… As for the reason, you already know.”
“Taking human form weakens most of their original power and demonic energy capacity,” Jiang Mengxin murmured.
Old Wu nodded and continued his analysis.
“Foxes are agile creatures, but they possess almost no physical strength. Once they take human form… theoretically speaking, they might be even more fragile than an ordinary human woman. In today’s cruel ecosystem, it’s impossible for such a creature to be born.”
“In other words, fox demons don’t exist?” Jiang Mengxin asked.
“They 100% do not exist,” Old Wu said decisively.
“But what if they do?” Jiang Mengxin pressed on, unwilling to give up.
“It’s absolutely impossible,” Old Wu said.
“But, if… just if they existed?” Jiang Mengxin asked.
“Hmm… that’s a good question.” Old Wu stroked his chin.
“If they did exist, they would surely go extinct very quickly. They would be eaten by other demons or… captured by humans.”
“This would be considered a milestone in the evolution of living beings. If even weak creatures were willing to take human form, it would be worth researching.”
‘So that’s how it is…’
‘It seems the Changsheng immortal sect hasn’t discovered that fox demon yet.’
‘How interesting.’
Jiang Mengxin calculated silently in her heart.
“Anyway, as your Class teacher, I suggest there’s no need to research non-existent creatures like fox demons.” Old Wu shrugged.
“With your skill level, you could easily research other, more valuable academic directions.”
“But I’m just very interested in fox demons,” Jiang Mengxin said with a smile. “What if I actually find one?”
As she spoke, she glanced at the drawing on the desk again.
Old Wu’s expression changed several times before he sighed. “Impossible.”
Jiang Mengxin refused to let it go. “What if?”
Old Wu frowned and stared at Jiang Mengxin. He noticed that those amber eyes were remarkably confident.
This left him bewildered for a moment. “If you find one, you can be the Class teacher, alright?”
“Deal!” Jiang Mengxin flashed a satisfied smile. “Thank you for the guidance, Old Man. I understand.”
“As long as you understand. Don’t go researching some fox — ” Old Wu’s words were cut off.
Jiang Mengxin’s voice was one step faster. “When the time comes, please testify for me, Old Man. I’m worried the Changsheng immortal sect will try to steal the credit.”
“Huh?” Old Wu was dumbfounded.
“Can you?” Jiang Mengxin asked, almost pleading.
The atmosphere froze.
There was a long silence.
Old Wu’s composure finally reached its limit and collapsed. “Jiang Mengxin, you haven’t listened to a single word I’ve said!”
Jiang Mengxin took on a slightly more serious expression. “I will catch that fox demon.”
“…No, you…” Old Wu struggled for a long time. “Fine, go catch it then.”
His attitude was completely indifferent, as if he simply didn’t want to deal with it anymore.
Jiang Mengxin could tell that her Class teacher didn’t believe in the existence of fox demons at all.
This made her even more confident in her goal.
‘I should put this drawing away.’
Jiang Mengxin carefully tucked the drawing into the book cover to keep it intact and then slid it into the compartment of her desk.
Old Wu watched her every movement, his expression becoming increasingly gloomy.
“Su Mumu, wake up!” he barked.
“Ugh… call me Lord Mu,” Su Mumu murmured.
Old Wu’s expression stiffened instantly, looking as though he had eaten something foul.
Seeing this, Jiang Mengxin quickly gave Su Mumu a gentle nudge. “Mumu, school is out. Time to duo queue and rank up.”
Like a bee finding nectar or a sunflower finding sunlight, the moment Su Mumu heard a chance to rank up, she snapped her eyes open. “Let’s go! I’m definitely hitting the top ten today!”
“Su Mumu, you need to kick your internet addiction!” Old Wu said, frustrated by her lack of ambition.
“Old Man?” Su Mumu rubbed her eyes and stretched. “You want to hop on the bus, too? You’ll have to send a gift first.”
“Gift some sunglasses to join the team,” Jiang Mengxin added, stifling a laugh.
“…This bottom class is hopeless.” Old Wu looked up at the ceiling in despair, staring blankly.
“Don’t worry,” Su Mumu said with a straight face. “I’ll take care of it.”
“Since you’re handling it, I won’t step in,” Jiang Mengxin added.
“You… you two!” Old Wu’s face darkened completely. “Get to the office, now!!!”
His voice was deafeningly loud.
Since it was already the lunch break, the office was empty.
Only Old Wu, Su Mumu, and Jiang Mengxin remained.
“Su Mumu, you’re still yawning?” Old Wu asked.
Su Mumu wiped away the tears brought on by her yawning.
“What were you doing all night?” Old Wu asked, somewhat speechless.
“I was doing it with Jiang Mengxin…” Su Mumu mumbled half-asleep.
“…What on earth are you saying, Mumu?” Jiang Mengxin grew anxious and nudged Su Mumu’s waist in protest.
“Duo-queuing with you, talking on the phone for hours… what’s wrong?” Su Mumu’s foggy brain cleared as she asked in confusion.
“Hmph.” Jiang Mengxin turned her face away.
“Why are you angry?” Su Mumu blinked.
Old Wu gave them a strange look and coughed twice. “No matter how good your relationship is, could you keep it private until after you leave the office?”
“Old Man, you’ve misunderstood,” Jiang Mengxin quickly explained.
“What? What? What’s going on? It sounds like you’ve defected!” Su Mumu was puzzled. “Aren’t we best friends? We’re so close we’re practically joined at the hip — “
“Hey, stop talking!” Jiang Mengxin interrupted.
“My heart is broken. The love is gone,” Su Mumu said resentfully.
Jiang Mengxin was speechless.
Old Wu also had nothing to say.
The atmosphere was incredibly strange, filled only by the sound of Su Mumu’s constant yawning.
Eventually, Old Wu was the one to break the awkwardness.
“Cough — ! I don’t care about your private affairs. I just want to address one thing. Let’s start with Jiang Mengxin. Why aren’t you paying attention in class?”
Jiang Mengxin answered almost without thinking, “The curriculum is too simple. I learned all that stuff a long time ago.”
Faced with such an answer, Old Wu felt helpless but understanding. “Fine. In that case, let’s switch. Su Mumu, why aren’t you paying attention?”
Su Mumu also didn’t hesitate. “I’m sleepy. The more I listen, the sleepier I get.”
The veins on Old Wu’s forehead throbbed. He took a deep breath. “Fine. If that’s the case, you don’t need to come to class tomorrow.”
“Huh?” the two of them said in unison.
Both Su Mumu and Jiang Mengxin were stunned.
Old Wu chuckled.
“One of you thinks the curriculum is too easy, and the other thinks it’s boring. In that case, go do a mission!”
“As your Class teacher, I am officially assigning you a D-rank mission from the Changsheng immortal sect. You’ll earn academic credits if you complete it.”
