Her voice was like the cold glint reflected from the snow-blanketed ground after snow had filled the sky.
In the eyes of the azure-blue girl standing before her were nearly identical cross-shaped patterns.
Gabrielle’s cross-patterned eyes were filled with doubt.
“Gabrielle, it seems you still haven’t understood. Of course not… Even if we eliminate the rebels, we shouldn’t kill that many humans, right?”
“This is the optimal solution.”
Cress spoke as if she were merely stating something trivial.
“Rather than temporary peace, what humanity needs most is the Church’s rule and guidance. Otherwise, disaster and misfortune will repeat themselves a few years after the Church disappears. No one will attain the happiness promised in those slogans… They need God’s help.”
“Damn it…”
“Gabrielle, you are different from anyone else. You are not a Heavenly Envoy. Your mission is the same as mine. You will replace me and make me bow my head in submission.”
Gabrielle remained silent. She could find no reason to refute her.
The brilliant light reflected from the cross behind Heavenly God Cress was exceptionally dazzling and irritating.
Cress seemed not to notice the slight trembling of the girl’s delicate body at all as she continued.
“There are also some humans who have allied with the fairies. They have created brand-new weapons. This poses a serious threat to the Heavenly Envoys. I hope you can lead them.”
After Heavenly God Cress finished speaking, she transformed into a streak of azure light and left the palace.
In the vast space filled with magnificent and gorgeous totems, only Gabrielle remained.
She slowly stood up, staggered a couple of steps, and walked out of the palace.
***
The shadow of the massive door fell across her delicate figure, dimming the cross patterns in her eyes.
She created silver-white wings using magic particles and soared into the air.
However, her direction was not toward the mountain peaks where raging flames burned fiercely or the enormous magic array woven from various spells in the sky—like a holy judgment descending from heaven—illuminating directly above the human capital.
She flew over the battlefield, over the ocean, soaring at an astonishing speed.
Finally, she arrived at a desolate continent devoid of life.
As far as the eye could see, there were black rocks, ravines, and endless mountain ranges.
Rolling lava accompanied by black miasma leaped within the cracked stone fissures, like scenes from hell.
The entire sky was shrouded in shadow, and the barrier formed by the miasma served as the dividing line between hell and reality.
Gabrielle’s eyes were hollow.
Without any hesitation, she flew toward the bottom of this abyss, as if plunging into a dark chasm.
She skillfully maneuvered around the sharp spikes and mountain peaks.
In two minutes of flight, she reached a place where even light seemed unable to penetrate.
She retracted her wings and landed steadily on a platform.
After taking a few steps, she knelt on the ground. Her lifeless eyes gazed at the smooth stone platform.
Those eyes seemed capable of piercing through all darkness, seeing the complex and eerie patterns outlined by shadows upon it.
Several shadow tentacles wrapped around her legs.
A cobra-like shadow construct crawled up her back, wound around her neck, and then flowed into her palm.
Gabrielle remained expressionless, as if she had already become a slave to these shadows.
Yet the girl who emerged from the darkness hurriedly ran to her side and sat down.
She stroked Gabrielle’s tear-streaked cheeks.
“Gabrielle?”
“Ugh… Isabella…”
“What’s wrong? Can you tell me? You’re even worse than last time…”
Isabella did not finish her sentence.
She hooked her leg around Gabrielle’s calf.
The physical contact seemed to help improve Gabrielle’s mood somewhat.
Before she could continue speaking, Gabrielle spoke in a pleading voice.
“Can you… control me? Like before. Make me your female slave.”
Gabrielle’s voice trembled.
She did not feel that what she said was particularly horrifying.
Isabella did not agree immediately.
Although she was very happy, seeing the other party so sad also made her heart ache.
“You’re about to break down. Your condition is even worse than last time. Did you go to the battlefield this time too?”
“No, I didn’t.”
“You ran away?”
Gabrielle merely nodded and even began wiping away her tears.
Isabella’s heart skipped a beat.
“Many Heavenly Envoys died in battle… They were sent into the repair pods.”
“What are repair pods?”
“They are the place where Heavenly Envoys go to sleep after dying. They can be revived… But it’s a lie… They don’t exist at all. They’re all going to die. All of them.”
As she spoke, Gabrielle’s eyes widened as if recalling a nightmare.
“Turn me completely into an Apostle… Isabella.”
Isabella did not ask any further.
She stroked Gabrielle’s head and let the shadows erode into it.
For a moment, the despair in Gabrielle’s eyes became somewhat dazed.
Now, the distracting thoughts in her mind had been cleared.
She still remembered her thoughts from a second ago, yet Gabrielle could no longer comprehend that it was a state of “nothingness” before Isabella’s interference.
“Gabrielle?”
“Yes, Master.”
Isabella’s words were like commands.
When her master called her name, she was supposed to answer.
It was simple.
It was comfortable.
Being watched by her master, being dominated by her, was an honor.
Of course, having her body filled with shadows was the same.
“Mmm…”
Isabella held her head and kissed her on the lips. Gabrielle let out a soft moan.
She also reached out to embrace Isabella’s body, making it easier for her to take what she wanted.
She could offer her body to her master without holding anything back.
“Gabrielle, I can’t turn you into an Apostle.”
“The summoning of Apostles was just a lie, a smokescreen of mine. They don’t actually exist.”
“Actually, [Devour] is my Authority. It’s not complete. I can only create one Apostle, and you’re too powerful. I can only control you slowly… Mmm, it’s difficult.”
“Before becoming a true god, Master cannot use her Authority.”
A hint of confusion appeared in Gabrielle’s dazed eyes.
“It’s very difficult to become a complete god again~ If I use the incomplete Authority prematurely, I’ll never be able to leave the bottom of this abyss in the future.”
Isabella spoke lightly as she reached out to wipe away the tears remaining at the corners of Gabrielle’s eyes.
“Why?”
Gabrielle asked word by word.
Even under the control of the shadows, emotion surged within her.
The corners of Isabella’s mouth curved up slightly. She hugged Gabrielle tightly, wrapping her arms around the girl’s slender waist and feeling the warmth of her body.
“Because Gabrielle often protects me, pretending to fight me to keep me safe, and you don’t even tell me. You’re really such a fool.”
“I don’t want to become some true god either. I just want to be with you, Gabrielle.”
When Gabrielle opened her eyes, it was already daylight.
She rubbed her eyes, feeling a stinging sensation in her nose.
