Anderson didn’t believe for a second that Truth could pull out a thousand gold coins at once.
But Truth simply walked out the door, and less than five minutes later, she slammed a huge burlap sack right onto Anderson’s face.
The contents inside rattled and clinked— Anderson knew that sound all too well… it was the unmistakable jingle of gold coins colliding.
He took a closer look. Every coin was freshly minted, gleaming and new!
“From now on, unless I give permission, none of you are to touch my Dragon Egg.”
Truth planned to head into the Mist tomorrow to bind with the Divine Domain, and maybe find a safe spot to hatch the Dragon Egg.
Anderson peeked nervously into the sack, his heart pounding wildly.
Reg’s jaw dropped open— wait, did Truth really bring back a thousand gold coins?
Neither of them had ever seen so much money in their lives.
They hurriedly poured out the coins and counted them, taking it very seriously.
The result was completely unexpected: Truth hadn’t given them a thousand coins…
But a full one thousand one hundred! There was an extra hundred coins!
“Did I take too much? Then let Reg have the rest as payment for protecting Earl Suho tonight.”
Just like back in the manor, Truth was as casual as ever about rewards.
Reg nearly fell to his knees in front of her.
Now Reg had more than two hundred gold coins to his name— about what an ordinary person in Deya City could earn in a lifetime.
Yet this little priestess tossed it to him as if it were nothing. What a blessing…
Wait, I’m a member of the Vanguard Family! This kind of money used to be my brothers’ pocket change. I can’t just kneel for a little benefit like this!
Half-kneeling is fine…
At least it’s better than this guy next to me! Beside Reg, Anderson was already kowtowing to Truth. His original expectation had been around five hundred coins, but Truth didn’t even haggle— she just dumped the money on him!
“Miss, from today onward, I’m your most loyal dog! Whatever you want in Deya City, just say the word and I’ll make it happen!”
A thousand brand new gold coins, in cash— this was already beyond the Suho family’s reach.
Anderson was sure Truth must be some heiress from a powerful, hidden clan out adventuring.
So it turns out Suna’s the one who landed a rich lady, not Truth!
Anderson was so eager to please he almost wanted to lick Truth’s boots, but she had no intention of rewarding him. With a look of disgust, she told Reg to kick him aside.
This time, Reg didn’t hold back. With one precise kick, he cleared a path for Truth, and she finally strolled out the door:
“Your job now is to keep my Dragon Egg safe. I’ll probably come to pick it up in a few days.”
Anderson and Reg nodded repeatedly, swearing to defend the Dragon Egg with their lives.
Once Truth was completely out of sight, the two turned to each other and screamed silently.
Holy crap, we just got rich overnight!
The next morning, Anderson was in high spirits, carrying the best breakfast the Cafeteria had to offer as he sat down in front of Reg.
He didn’t care at all about nearly getting killed by demons the night before.
“What do you want to eat? My treat!”
Reg was reading the morning paper, not even looking up.
“Go buy me some Rainbow Fish from Wangsheng City.”
“Screw off! Just because we have money doesn’t mean you can waste it like that!”
Far away in Wangsheng City, there was a type of fish with scales that shimmered in rainbow hues.
One fish could fetch ten gold coins on the market, making it one of the world’s most luxurious delicacies.
“Tsk, even with money in your pocket, you’re still such a punk. Can’t you be a little more reserved, like me?”
Reg smiled gracefully. Money really does make life better. He now had enough to last until he became a mid-rank warrior. All he needed was to train hard.
And during his morning workout, he even noticed his training efficiency had improved significantly. This must be the “experience” effect Truth mentioned, right?
Unlike players, the locals in this world didn’t have experience bars.
Instead, whenever they defeated powerful Elite Monsters or bosses, their upgrade efficiency would double for a period, rather than gaining direct experience.
Two good things at once! At this rate, I’ll reach the second tier in just a few days!
But the next second, Reg’s smile froze on his face.
Anderson, who was about to retort, immediately lowered his voice and asked what was wrong. Reg handed him the morning paper, pointing out today’s headline:
Shocking! Deya Bank’s vault robbed last night, losses up to three thousand gold! Law enforcement is now investigating all newly minted coins in circulation…
……
“Huh? Three thousand?! I only took a little over a thousand, didn’t I?”
At Deya City’s main gate, Truth also saw today’s headline on the notice board. Turns out, no matter what world humans are in, the bold get rich and the timid starve.
Meanwhile, the president of Deya Bank and a group of bigwigs were overjoyed— finally, they had an excuse to balance the books!
Truth rolled her eyes and slipped away from the crowd. At the main gate, she spotted the Demon Hunter Squad preparing to leave. Heavy Armored Knight Kavel greeted her:
“Hello, little priest. Heading somewhere in a hurry?”
Early this morning, Deya City lifted the lockdown, and the Goddess of Life’s Sanctuary had disappeared.
Many people were leaving the city, and the Demon Hunters were heading back to prepare for the next round of demon hunts.
“I’m going to play in the Mist.” Truth bowed politely, earning a sigh from Kavel.
“Off to heal those reckless newbie adventurers? So compassionate! No wonder you’re the priest personally blessed by the Goddess. If you ever join the army, you might just set those military priests straight.”
What else could a priest do in the Mist but rescue people? That’s what Kavel thought. The other Demon Hunters also greeted Truth, who was surprised at her own good reputation.
After all, they still remembered how seriously she took saving lives.
“Mhm, if there’s a chance, I’ll visit the Military Camp.”
With that polite reply, Truth walked away, leaving Kavel beaming. He turned to his squad and said:
“Did you hear that? The little priest agreed to visit the army!”
“Woohoo!” The squad cheered. Finally, they’d see the gentle priest in the Military Camp!
Hearing the cheers behind her, Truth was exasperated. Couldn’t these battle-happy guys tell she was just being polite?
Sure, working at the Military Camp or hospital would let her quickly rack up early experience, but it would also make her famous—and eventually attract the attention of the deities and certain bigwigs.
Truth had no desire to become the Goddess of Life’s chosen saint…
The Mist was bustling again today. Merchants and newbie adventurers came and went.
Thanks to her rare priest’s robe and striking looks, Truth was constantly approached by various adventure teams.
“Sorry, my teammates are already waiting for me in the Mist.”
Ignoring the disappointed looks, Truth headed into the Mist alone.
The moment she entered, she felt right at home, as if she belonged here.
No monsters jumped out at her along the way— it was almost suspiciously safe.
Oh, that’s right— Truth remembered her talent:
[Mist Faithful LV.1: You are a devoted follower of the Mist. Inside the fog, your mana recovery is faster, and no mist creature will attack you unprovoked.]
At this stage, most monsters in the Mist were still under tier one.
The most common were probably Soundseekers, easily agitated by noise.
So Truth walked along, clapping her hands. Soon enough, a Soundseeker appeared.
It was pitch-black, tall and thin, almost humanoid. It stood quietly in the fog, studying Truth for a moment before being distracted by another noise and leaving.
Interesting. Truth pressed on. Since she avoided the main road, she didn’t encounter any adventurers, but she did see plenty of monsters, all drawn by some commotion.
Truth was actually heading the same way as the monsters. After a few minutes, cries, shouts, and threats reached her ears. Up ahead, she saw a spacious wagon with several adventurers tied up inside.
Corpses of monsters lay around the wagon. Several bandits with cold weapons were gagging the captured adventurers:
“If you attract any more monsters, I’ll cut your tongues out right now!”
Oh? These must be the bandits Tia mentioned, hiding in the Mist.
Truth moved closer for a look. Their clothes and gear matched those of the four men she’d killed when she first arrived.
The hook-nosed bandit being inspected by Truth froze. Where did this priest come from?!
A spotless priest’s robe and rare, well-kept silver hair… could she be the daughter of some powerful family?
And those innocent eyes— couldn’t she tell they were kidnapping people?
A gift from the heavens!
The hook-nosed bandit made a “please” gesture, inviting Truth onto the wagon. To his surprise, Truth obediently climbed aboard and even asked him:
“Where are we going now?”
“Mmm! Mmm!”
The tied-up adventurers groaned in shock. How could anyone be this clueless? Couldn’t she tell they were being kidnapped? And she even got on the wagon herself!
Truth smiled and waved at them. What a friendly bunch.
The hook-nosed bandit was a little thrown off by Truth’s behavior, but he answered quietly:
“We’re, uh… rescuing people! We’re taking you all somewhere safe.”
With that, the bandits drove the wagon cautiously along the main road, overjoyed at their luck. Who would’ve thought a rich young lady would wander into the Mist? This was their lucky day!
Truth was just as pleased— no need to waste time searching for the bandit hideout now. She could just sit back and see who dared cause trouble on her turf.
Only the gagged adventurers looked utterly hopeless…
On the way back to their base, the wagon occasionally ran into Soundseekers, but the bandits handled them with practiced ease.
Soon, everyone arrived at a well-hidden spot near the Mist’s center.
At that moment, Truth’s panel lit up:
[Mist binding condition met. Bind now?]
So just getting close to the center was enough? Truth confirmed without hesitation!
