“Don’t you think that kind of idea is absurd?”
After digesting Lin Wei’s words, Yu Qing turned his gaze back to her, but continued to speak words contrary to his true feelings.
He was fully aware that Lin Wei, having pretended for so long, must have deep plans.
Cooperating with her was no less dangerous than facing Fu Mingxuan.
Seeking skin from a tiger—Yu Qing naturally had to stay on full alert.
“You see,”
Facing Yu Qing’s feigned ignorance, Lin Wei simply sneered, then motioned for Yu Qing to look toward the auditorium.
There, the music was reaching a climax, and cheers shook the air.
“Fu Yi is now triumphant, believing everything is under her control. She’s taken care of Fu Mingxuan. Next is you.”
“After eliminating the biggest threat, she’ll toy with you like a cat with a mouse, wearing you down until you’re exhausted, then drag you back, uncover your secrets, and finally…make you disappear without a trace.”
Her tone was calm, yet she painted a future that sent chills down the spine.
“I know you have some tricks of your own.”
Lin Wei’s gaze landed thoughtfully on the pocket of Yu Qing’s shirt, as if pondering something unseen.
“But with my help, your chances of success will increase dramatically.”
“For example, a few days ago you registered a Double Waltz with Fu Yi for the School Anniversary, and asked Jiang Zilin to keep it off the Program List as a secret, making it the finale performance.”
Lin Wei looked at Yu Qing, a hint of probing in her eyes.
“You want to lure Fu Yi onto the stage, then create a one-on-one environment, right?”
Though her tone was questioning, her expression was resolute.
Seeing the trace of surprise on Yu Qing’s face, Lin Wei became even more certain of her guess.
“And when the performance ends, that’s your chance to act. At that moment, the Smoke Generators arranged by Jiang Zilin and the others will release a thick fog, concealing your movements and buying you time for your final preparations.”
“You’ve been following me?”
By now, Yu Qing’s initial confusion as to how Lin Wei knew all this had shifted to astonishment at just how much she knew.
“Following? I just happened to run into you, and then happened to overhear a few things.”
Lin Wei’s smile was sly, her tone light.
“As for the things on the back mountain, I also just happened to be passing by and saw something.”
So she really knew.
Lin Wei truly knew about his ability to transform!
But why didn’t she expose him further? Why not dig deeper into his secrets?
Wasn’t she curious?
Yu Qing felt that he’d been shocked enough today—no matter what Lin Wei said next, he wouldn’t be surprised anymore.
“Let’s get back to the point.”
Lin Wei took in Yu Qing’s reaction, but didn’t press further. Instead, she shifted the topic back.
“Your biggest problem now is that you’re gambling on whether Fu Yi will get on stage, giving you this chance to be alone with her. You’re betting her pride will make her step into your Trap—but that’s too risky.”
“But I have a way to ensure she walks into your Trap, just as you planned.”
As she spoke, she pulled a card and a small Key from the pocket of her vest, showing them off to Yu Qing with a touch of pride.
“This is a Backstage High-Permission Pass, and the Key to the Dressing Room where the costume prepared for you is stored.”
“On the way here, I also did a little advance promotion for you. Now, most people in the venue know that Fu Yi and a Secret Guest will perform a Double Waltz at the end. When the time comes, all you have to do is dress up as the Secret Guest and stand on stage.”
“When everyone calls out, as long as Fu Yi doesn’t want her hard-built image to crumble by fleeing at the last moment, she won’t dare to be absent. As for the rest of the setup, I’ll keep it secret for now—I’ll tell you when you agree.”
Yu Qing took the cold card and Key, his fingers trembling slightly.
What did Lin Wei want?
Why bring him these things?
“Why are you helping me?”
Yu Qing stared at Lin Wei, a hint of fierceness creeping into his voice before he realized it.
“What do you want?”
“I just don’t want to leave my fate in someone else’s hands.”
Lin Wei’s eyes grew distant for a moment, then quickly recovered.
“Fu Yi has sat on the Victory Throne for too long—so long she’s lost herself in power, treating everyone with arrogance, thinking her every word and action can make others die for her.”
“Lately, I’ve realized I can’t place my hopes on people like her.”
She paused, then let out a low laugh.
“As for my conditions, you’ll know once you sit on the Victory Throne yourself.”
“Of course, you can also refuse—turn around and leave now, and see if you can escape the Net of Heaven and Earth Fu Yi is about to cast.”
And, whether you can escape my revenge.
She didn’t say that last part, but Yu Qing heard it all the same.
Lin Wei had already shown her true face before him.
Naturally, she would have ways to prevent him from betraying her or leaking the plan.
Yu Qing saw no reason to risk angering her.
Lin Wei’s words were like a double-edged sword—one side a mad temptation to the heights of power, the other a bottomless abyss of danger.
Yu Qing stared at the pass in his hand, heavy as if it weighed a thousand pounds, then looked up at the brilliant, noisy auditorium.
Fu Yi must be inside, enjoying the joy of victory, overlooking all—including the rat still struggling in the mud.
Not resigned…?
How could she possibly accept it?
From the moment she was swept into this twisted whirlpool of fate, she lost her identity, lost her peace, and had to skulk like a rat in the gutter.
She’d had enough!
Why should Fu Yi stand high above and control everything?
Why should she be left at the mercy of others?
A flame, suppressed too long and mixed with anger, humiliation, and ambition, suddenly blazed up inside her, swallowing her fear and hesitation.
Yu Qing instinctively ignored the fact that all this was her own doing—because what she needed now was a fire to burn away her doubts and ignite the last of her resolve.
As for regrets, that was no longer possible.
She’d warned herself a thousand times—there was no turning back.
Yu Qing clenched the pass and Key in her palm, her nails nearly digging into her flesh.
Lifting her head, she looked at Lin Wei.
The panic had faded from her eyes, replaced by an unwavering determination.
“If you really want me to do something for you, then listen carefully to what I say next. Then, do exactly as I instruct.”
Her voice was still hoarse, but now it carried an unshakable strength.
