As soon as Liangcai finished her introduction, Morgana sprang out from behind her, her eyes shining brilliantly.
“So many people to chat with! This is wonderful!” she cheered, dashing straight toward the closest person—Dolosa.
“Dolosa, you’re so pretty! Your golden hair is like the sun! Your blue eyes are like the most precious sapphire, though your expression kinda looks like someone owes you money… But that’s alright! From now on, I’ll chat with you every day and make sure you’re always happy! What do you like talking about? Food? Scenery? Or… how to make Liang Lai Mama focus only on you? I’m not too good at that one, but we can figure it out together!”
She spoke so quickly that Dolosa didn’t even get the chance to cut in, even reaching out to touch Dolosa’s hair.
Most importantly, she’d actually guessed Dolosa’s inner thoughts.
In the next instant, Dolosa’s face turned as black as the bottom of a pot. She took a large step back to dodge Morgana’s “devilish claws,” her gaze icy cold.
“Stay away from me.”
The air around Dolosa’s hand seemed to twist ever so slightly, showing signs of crystallization.
Liang Lai’s heart skipped a beat.
She quickly stepped forward, positioning herself between the two.
“Nana, Dolosa isn’t used to talking with people she doesn’t know very well. Wait until you two get familiar before you chat with her, okay~”
As she spoke, she frantically signaled at Morgana with her eyes.
Morgana, cowed by Dolosa’s murderous aura, shrank her neck a little, but quickly perked up again.
She poked her head out from behind Liang Lai’s arm and whispered to Dolosa, “Okay, okay, scary sister… I’ll come play with you when you’re in a better mood!”
With that, she immediately turned her attention to the next target.
Dolosa: “
She clenched her fists, took a deep breath, visibly restraining herself.
Morgana’s gaze locked onto the hand-in-hand twins.
“Asterys! Delucia! Hello~ Twins are amazing~ Do you have telepathy? Can you teach me? Or maybe we can play shadow games together?”
She bounced around the two, examining their nearly identical faces and silver hair, then accurately guessed their identities.
Asterys and Delucia exchanged a look and, in perfect sync, took a small step back.
Delucia melted into her sister’s shadow, leaving only a faint voice behind.
“Uh… maybe next time?”
Asterys and Delucia had instantly sensed that this girl was no ordinary child.
Before they could figure out who she was, it was best not to get too close.
Morgana blinked, looking a bit disappointed, but quickly found a new target.
This time, it was Illucy, who was standing timidly to one side.
“Illucy…”
She lowered her voice and tiptoed over, as if afraid of startling her.
“You seem so gentle~ Like a little white rabbit. What do you like? Can we share some secrets together? Or, um, on your arm—”
She’d noticed the faint scars on Illucy’s arms and reached out curiously.
Illucy flinched hard, hurriedly hiding her arms behind her back, face going pale, shaking her head vigorously, lips trembling without saying a word.
Self-harm… she really didn’t want too many people to find out.
Liang Lai hurriedly pulled Morgana back.
“Uh, uh, Illucy is very shy. Don’t scare her…”
“Oh, oh, sorry, sorry!”
Morgana instantly pressed her palms together, apologizing.
Then, lowering her voice, she said to Illucy, “From now on, I’ll talk softly with you, Illucy.”
Illucy: ”…”
She silently, quickly moved to the farthest corner of the room, trying to curl herself into a ball.
Morgana’s gaze then shifted to the critical-eyed Dexilensi.
“Dexilensi!”
She eagerly approached her next target.
“You look really powerful~ What do you like to do? Are you like Liang Lai Mama, handling lots of important things? Can you teach me? I mess up sometimes, but I learn fast~”
Dexilensi swept those golden pupils over Morgana, then turned her head away to make sure Liang Lai couldn’t see her face.
The corners of her mouth curled into an undisguised sneer.
“Where did you come from, you’re so noisy, stay away from me.”
But Morgana, with her wide, sparkling eyes, didn’t retreat at all—on the contrary, her expression was full of admiration.
“Wow~ Even when you scold people, you’re so elegant! Can I learn from you?”
Dexilensi: “…”
She had obviously never encountered such a stubborn little pest before.
At a loss for words, she finally just frowned in disgust, snorted, and turned away.
Liang Lai couldn’t bear to watch any longer and covered half her face.
She had known it would turn out like this…
Just as Morgana was becoming dejected from all the rejections, a warm voice rang out.
“Morgana, I’m Motifiel!”
Motifiel walked up to her with a wide smile and patted Morgana’s shoulder in a friendly manner.
“Welcome to the Court of Purity. From now on, we’re sisters! You like to chat? Wonderful! I do too! None of them like to talk to me, I’ve been so bored…”
Upon finding a kindred spirit, Morgana’s eyes positively lit up.
She instantly revived, grabbing Motifiel’s hand excitedly.
“Really? Motifiel, you’re amazing! You’re just like my real big sister! What do you want to talk about? I know a little about everything—food, drinks, games, and even things about the outside world. I’ll tell you, over by the border there’s this type of stone… and a kind of flower… and a…”
“Really? That’s so cool,” Motifiel was completely engrossed. “What else, what else?”
“Oh, there’s so much more! I even know how to make a super tasty roast slug—crispy outside, tender inside, and when you bite it, it bursts with juice. It looks kinda scary, but it tastes amazing! Next time, I’ll take you to catch some.”
“R-roast… slug?” Motifiel’s expression froze for a moment, but soon curiosity overcame her.
“Uh, sure, sounds… interesting… Is there anything else?”
“There’s loads! I know how to weave little rabbits from wild grass, how to shape clay into whistles that make noise… how to sneak out past the Holy Court patrols’ eyes and— uh, maybe I shouldn’t say that.”
Morgana quickly cut herself off, glancing nervously at Liang Lai.
Liang Lai: “…”
I heard that, thank you.
Yet seeing the two of them instantly chatting like they’d known each other for years, Liang Lai felt an odd sense of relief.
Thank goodness! Finally, someone to take care of—ah, no, to keep Motifiel company! With these two chatterboxes bouncing off each other, the others (especially herself) would get some peace, right?
And so, life at the Court of Purity changed…
Morgana and Motifiel became two walking noise generators, able to strike up a conversation anywhere and everywhere.
At mealtime, they’d huddle together, whispering, “This isn’t cooked yet,” or, “Too much salt.”
While strolling, arm in arm, Morgana could invent ten outrageous stories about a single cloud, and Motifiel would listen with rapt attention.
Even at bedtime, the two would whisper across their rooms for ages, until Dolosa, at her wits’ end, would throw pebbles at their window as a warning.
The others each responded differently.
Dolosa usually ignored them completely, or sent a single sharp glare to silence them.
If she got truly annoyed, she’d quietly leave, making it clear she had no interest in fighting these two fools.
Dexilensi was openly disgusted; if the pair got within ten meters, she’d immediately get up and walk away.
Illucy was simply afraid; the moment she heard their chattering approach, she’d hide in her room or a corner, trying to make herself as invisible as possible.
She dreaded Morgana ever grabbing her arm again and asking about her scars…
The twins just found it all hilarious.
They’d often lurk in the shadows, listening to the pair’s wild conversations, exchanging a “these two are so funny” look, and sometimes even pranking them—jumping out of their shadows for a scare, then giggling at the way Morgana and Motifiel clung to each other in fright.
As for Liang Lai…
Her feelings were complicated.
On one hand, she was genuinely relieved that Motifiel had found a friend, and that Morgana seemed to have settled down—well, if you ignored her non-stop mouth, at least she wasn’t doing anything outlandish or exposing her identity as a Witch.
The two children seemed truly happy.
But on the other hand—they were so noisy!
The old peace and quiet of the Court of Purity—at least on the surface—had been completely shattered! Before, at most it was Motifiel talking to herself; now it was a duet, with built-in amplification.
Liang Lai felt like she was soaking in pointless chatter all day, her brain buzzing.
She even started to miss the days when only Motifiel was a little chatterbox… that had been heavenly music by comparison.
Moreover, when these two teamed up, their destructive power seemed to grow exponentially.
Today, they spilled a fresh batch of Light Honey in the kitchen.
Tomorrow, they nearly set the Holy Robe drying in the sun on fire.
The day after, they tried to dye the White Sacred Rose in the garden all kinds of colors…
Liang Lai felt less like she was raising children and more like she was rebuilding after a pair of huskies tore the house apart.
But every time she saw Morgana’s purple eyes, now shining so brightly because someone finally listened to her, and watched her giggling alongside Motifiel, all those words of scolding would just die on her lips.
Forget it, forget it. Isn’t it good for kids to be lively? Lively means healthy… At least—at least—it’s, well… lively…right?
Liang Lai could only comfort herself this way, silently praying that Morgana’s “talking addiction” would pass soon, or at least… that the volume would go down.
Her life as the Saintess was truly spiraling into chaos.
Wasn’t she supposed to be cultivating the next Pope? How did it turn into running a kindergarten class?
She’d lost sight of her original goal! This couldn’t go on!
