“Why are you following me? You need to keep a proper eye on that guy and Nuna.”
Lee San shoves Baek Kang’s chest as he follows behind. But Baek Kang just grabs Lee San’s hand and pulls it down, grinning foolishly.
“Why should I keep an eye on Sol?”
“That’s exactly why you’re hopeless, hyung.”
With a sigh, Lee San snaps back and starts walking ahead, tapping the ground with his sneakers.
“I don’t care if he’s a Movie Director or whatever. I just can’t stand that guy.”
“Why? He’s got good manners. He’s stylish… seems like he’s really well-educated too.”
Trailing a few steps behind, Baek Kang responds in his usual laid-back tone.
“Well-educated, my ass. All he does is slur his words, sounds like a con artist. Didn’t he just make up that whole ‘I lived in the United States’ thing?”
Lee San turns around, bursting with anger.
Baek Kang catches up and stands shoulder to shoulder with Lee San, placing a hand on the crown of Lee San’s head, who has his hoodie pulled up.
“You can find him with just a quick search on the Internet. He’s made a lot of great works too.”
Despite his gentle voice, Lee San’s hostility doesn’t fade. He knocks away Baek Kang’s hand, annoyed at being treated like a child.
“If he’s so great, why’s he holed up in this backwater? Isn’t that suspicious from the start?”
“He said he’s working on his next project.”
Lee San starts walking ahead again. Baek Kang knows him well enough to guess his expression just from the way he walks. Smiling faintly, Baek Kang slowly follows behind.
“Exactly. Why does it have to be here? There are tons of seaside villages in the world, aren’t there? He could go somewhere more famous, somewhere cooler. He’s supposed to be rich, right?”
“Is there anywhere more beautiful than Myeonghaeri?”
“Well, that’s…!”
Lee San stops and turns around, shouting, but then shuts his mouth tight with a frustrated look.
Lee San simply can’t admit there’s anywhere more beautiful than Myeonghaeri. He can’t even imagine it.
Even if it was only for one semester, Lee Sol has attended University out of town.
And though it was because of an unfortunate incident, Baek Kang had to spend eight years outside Myeonghaeri.
But for Lee San, Myeonghaeri was everything.
Baek Kang and Lee Sol were his whole world.
“I don’t like Nuna either.”
“Sol’s just minding her own business, what’s your problem with her?”
Baek Kang walks a few more steps and stops beside Lee San. Smiling as if he finds Lee San’s sulky face cute— just like when they were kids— he taps Lee San’s cheek.
“Nuna’s just going along with that guy’s show-off act too much.”
The smile slowly fades from Baek Kang’s face, turning bitter. Lowering his gaze, he steps ahead of Lee San for the first time.
“It’s what Sol’s interested in. She likes Books and Movies, but you and I… we don’t really get those things. She just needs someone to talk to, that’s all.”
Instead of following Baek Kang, Lee San just stares hard at his back, clenching his fists unconsciously.
“Hyung, do you really mean that?”
“What wouldn’t I mean?”
“You don’t care if you lose Nuna?”
“……”
Baek Kang’s steps slow, then stop completely.
He stands there, not turning around, head bowed. He shoves one hand in his jacket pocket and rubs the back of his neck with the other.
Baek Kang’s silence is heavy.
“Yesterday, Nuna didn’t answer her phone all day, right?”
“……”
“Do you know what I saw?”
“Lee San, that’s enough.”
Baek Kang’s voice, always gentle, turns cold. But Lee San ignores it.
“While you were gone, I… I wanted to freeze time. So nothing would change. So that when you came back, the three of us could live just like before. But it’s impossible. Time keeps moving, and everything changes.”
Baek Kang returns to Lee San’s side, who is rambling in a frightened voice. Lee San grabs Baek Kang’s waistband, looking up at him.
“You’re not going to change, right? You’re still the same, right?”
“San-ah.”
Lee San, who was abused for years by his biological father along with Lee Sol, is pathologically afraid of losing the bond between the three of them.
Even when he witnessed Baek Kang kill his father, what scared Lee San most was the thought that Baek Kang might go to Prison.
To calm the agitated Lee San, Baek Kang tries to hug him. But Lee San refuses, grabbing Baek Kang’s arms tightly, his eyes wild.
“Marry her.”
“…What?”
“Marry Nuna right now.”
His gaze, believing this is the only answer, is fixed on Baek Kang.
“What the hell are you saying? That’s not something you just—”
“You were going to do it from the start! You promised when I was three years old!”
Lee San shouts, his voice thick with tears, then glances around and mutters to himself.
“You should’ve gotten married before you left. Yeah, that’s right, you should have. Then Nuna wouldn’t have become a traitor!”
“Lee San, shut up.”
Baek Kang, wearing Gloves, cups Lee San’s cheeks and lifts his face. His grip is firm enough to press Lee San’s cheeks. It wasn’t in the script.
And yet, in that moment, the man before him felt more like Baek Kang than ever.
In this desolate winter field, in the abandoned Myeonghaeri, in the whole universe, it felt like just the two of them were left. Just Baek Kang and Lee San.
No Director, no Camera, no staff—only the two of them.
The leather Gloves, cold as ice when they first touched his cheeks, quickly warmed up to his skin.
Baek Kang, always gentle, now threatening with harsh words and actions, brings tears to Lee San’s eyes.
There’s no need to act to make himself cry—he truly feels like he could die from the sorrow.
Lee San, still clutching Baek Kang’s waistband, squeezes his fists to hold back tears, so hard his knuckles ache and his nails dig into his palms. But Song Hyunsoo doesn’t even notice.
He looks up at Baek Kang with unwavering eyes, never doubting his own beliefs. As he blinks, a single tear draws a long line down his chin.
In a tiny voice, almost to himself, Lee San murmurs,
“If you’re not Nuna’s husband… then you’ll have nothing to do with me.”
“……”
“I’ll never forgive you.”
Baek Kang’s eyes waver violently.
It was impossible to tell if this was just an Actor’s response to Lee San’s obsessive line, or if Song Hyunsoo had changed the script.
But one thing was certain: he was completely immersed in this moment.
It felt as if their senses were connected.
So this is what it means for Actors to be in sync.
The faint sound of the waves washes over Song Hyunsoo’s body, sending chills down his spine as it fades away.
If things had gone as written, Song Hyunsoo’s last line in the scene would have been: — ‘If I lose Nuna, I won’t forgive you either, hyung.’
But acting with Yoon Jooho, Song Hyunsoo’s emotions built up and spilled over somewhere else.
The line that came out felt natural, as if it had come from the place those feelings had reached.
He was certain. If it were Lee San, he would have said it like this.
In the darkness, listening to the waves, they simply looked into each other’s eyes.
Baek Kang— Yoon Jooho— moves his lips as if to say something.
He wants to reach out, but at the same time, he hesitates. Like someone who’s lost everything, he gazes at Lee San with empty eyes.
Like a fish underwater, he keeps opening his mouth, but every time, no words come out. In silence, he just cradles the back of Lee San’s head and slowly pulls him into his arms.
Lee San rests his chin on Baek Kang’s shoulder.
It was a shoulder that felt like it could protect everything. At least, to Lee San.
He could feel Baek Kang’s complicated feelings through their contact. Even now, Baek Kang could sense that Lee Sol’s feelings were changing. How could he not know?
As he closed his eyes, another heavy tear fell— one he hadn’t even realized was left.
The scene ended.
Yoon Jooho slowly separated from Song Hyunsoo.
Without realizing it, their fingertips were intertwined. Yoon Jooho’s face was flushed.
Rubbing his mouth with his hand, he started walking toward the beach with Song Hyunsoo, their fingers still linked.
It was as if Song Hyunsoo’s wish to walk hand in hand had come true.
Their pace quickened, and as it did, Song Hyunsoo’s grip on Yoon Jooho’s hand grew stronger.
By the time the Car parked in the empty lot came into view, they were almost running— neither could say who started it.
All they could think about was pouring out this excitement onto each other.
Yoon Jooho opened the backseat door and practically shoved Song Hyunsoo inside.
Thud. Before Song Hyunsoo could even turn around, he heard the door slam behind him and felt Yoon Jooho’s rough grip pulling him by the shoulders.
The face before him was twisted with something like rage.
“Mm. Ngh, mm…”
Twisting his jaw, Yoon Jooho pressed their lips together, unzipping his jacket and tossing it off in an instant. One of his Gloves fell to the floor.
Song Hyunsoo quickly untied his hood’s string and pulled it down.
Somewhere toward the front seat, Yoon Jooho tossed his jacket and then unzipped Song Hyunsoo’s, sliding his hand inside to push it down.
When Song Hyunsoo shrugged his arms free, Yoon Jooho grabbed the sleeves and yanked it off.
It was like they had done this dozens of times before— their movements in perfect sync.
Even then, they didn’t let go of each other’s lips, turning their heads this way and that, almost like picking a fight.
“Mm. Hnn, hmm. Haah.”
Unable to resist Yoon Jooho’s weight pressing him into the seat, Song Hyunsoo’s upper body slowly tilted back.
The back of his head hit the car window. Yoon Jooho was crouched between his legs.
Having cornered Song Hyunsoo so he couldn’t move, Yoon Jooho finally pulled his lips away, breathing hard, eyes locked with Song Hyunsoo’s.
He bit the tip of his Glove’s middle finger and tugged it off.
