Aurora, startled awake from her dreams by Lola Bell’s strike with a long spear, opened her eyes but did not see Lola Bell’s figure.
She thought of going to look for her younger sister, and as soon as she stepped out the door, she saw a red-haired figure not far away in the air, flapping her wings as she floated above.
Several golden spears floated beside her, and it looked like she was confronting someone.
When Aurora hurried over, she saw her own little sister was about to strike down a purple-haired girl with lethal force.
In the darkness of night, Aurora couldn’t tell that the person on the ground was a demon; she could only see she was a young mage, so she quickly ran over.
She rushed to Shia’s side, spreading her arms to shield her in front.
Seeing this, Lola Bell urgently shouted at her: “Don’t go near her, big sister!”
She flapped her wings toward Aurora on the ground, reaching out as if to pull her over to her side.
But the person behind Aurora was obviously faster at approaching her than Lola Bell.
Suddenly, Aurora’s neck was gripped by a hand, and a blade was pressed against her throat.
“Come any closer and I’ll kill her.”
A weak voice sounded in her ear, and Aurora, in disbelief, wanted to turn her head to see who it was, but the blade was pressed so tightly that the slightest movement would pierce her and draw blood.
Sensing her fear, Shia leaned in and whispered softly into her ear: “Stay calm, I won’t hurt you.”
The unexpected voice reached her ear, but even so, Aurora couldn’t stop trembling with the blade at her throat.
“Let me out or I’ll kill her!” she shouted at Lola Bell in the air.
Lola Bell’s gaze was icy as she looked down disdainfully at Shia on the ground, her voice cold as she said: “Letting you into the academy will only let you harm more people.”
“I’ve never hurt anyone!”
As if struck at a sore spot, Shia anxiously shouted back in protest.
Even though her whole body was weak from blood loss, when she retorted, she still used the last of her strength, her voice hoarse and desperate.
“Then why did you say you’d kill me when we met? And what are you doing now?!”
Lola Bell’s loud questioning left Shia momentarily stunned. She lowered her eyes and said, “I… I had no choice.”
In order to continue staying at the academy, she had to kill everyone who knew her identity, but in truth, even if she really acted, she’d probably just knock them out and erase their memories.
Her vision started to blur, and her body was reaching its limit as blood continued to flow. She had to leave quickly.
“Sorry, but I’ll need to make you bleed a little.”
“Huh?”
Before Aurora could react, a sharp pain came from her neck.
A drop of blood slid down from her neck, slowly soaking into her clothes along the pale curve of her skin.
“Bastard!”
Lola Bell was completely enraged, and she manipulated the three golden spears around her to surround Shia, looking as if they could strike at any moment.
Her right eye started to look cloudy, and her voice became strange…
“How dare you hurt my sister, I’ll kill you, I’ll kill you…”
“Why did she suddenly lose control?!”
Seeing Lola Bell suddenly like this, Shia was a bit scared herself.
Whoosh.
A sound of air being pierced came from her side.
When she turned her head, the tip of a spear was already at her brow.
‘It’s over…’
In the end, Shia couldn’t bring herself to stab with the dagger in her hand.
Her hand holding the dagger fell limply, and with a clang, the dagger dropped to the ground.
She closed her eyes tightly, resigned, waiting for death.
Boom!
The pain she imagined didn’t come; instead, a deafening boom sounded right in front of her.
Weakly opening her eyes, she saw a blue figure standing protectively in front of her.
It was Albert. She didn’t know how she had gotten into this space.
The golden spears were shattered to pieces by Albert’s massive dragon claw. She shook off the dust from her hand, then turned her head slightly to look at Shia.
“Explain everything to me later,” she said angrily.
“Yes… teacher.”
After saying that, Shia completely passed out.
As she collapsed, Aurora instinctively supported her by the waist.
She felt something hard in her hand; there seemed to be something at her waist…
“Miss Albert, are you really going to save this demon?”
Seeing her sister finally out of danger, Lola Bell instantly snapped back to rationality.
“She’s not a demon,” Albert said matter-of-factly.
“Not a demon?”
Lola Bell pointed at the black horns on Shia’s forehead and said: “Then tell me, with horns and a tail like that, what else could she be but a demon? Are you going to say she’s human?”
“Although demon blood flows in her veins, I can assure you she’s not dangerous.”
“As long as there’s demon blood in her veins, she’s bound to harm innocent people.”
Albert sighed helplessly. She knew explaining this to a Saint Knight would be difficult. After all, Lola Bell had fought so many evil demons—there was no way she’d easily believe a girl with demon blood wouldn’t hurt anyone.
“No matter who it is, harboring demons is a serious crime.”
She manipulated the golden spear, making it slowly float to Albert’s side.
She said coldly, “Are you going to harbor a demon, Miss Albert?”
Albert wanted to say something, but suddenly a shout interrupted her.
“Sister! Get down here right now!”
This shout startled Lola Bell in the air so much that she trembled.
The next moment, she returned to her youthful form and obediently flew down to stand before Aurora.
“Sis, sister…”
Thud.
“Ow, that hurts.”
Aurora’s karate chop made Lola Bell clutch her head and cry out softly.
She raised her head a little, looking aggrievedly at Aurora.
“Sis, it was her, she was the one who said she’d kill me first!”
She pointed at the purple-haired girl lying on the ground, barely alive, like a child complaining to a parent.
“If she really wanted to kill, I’d already be dead.”
She wasn’t angry about why Lola Bell wanted to kill her—after all, just the fact that the purple-haired woman held a knife to her throat showed she wasn’t a saint. She was just upset that her little sister would say, ‘As long as demon blood flows in her veins, she’s bound to harm innocent people.’
If it were the old Lola Bell, she’d never say something so heartless.
Like a teacher, she pointed at Lola Bell’s head and scolded her: “Listen, little sister. Every race has the right to live—whether it’s a yokai, a demon, or a mixed-blood, do you understand?”
“But demons…”
“Hm?”
“I understand…”
