Perhaps life is like this, always facing unexpected surprises when you least expect them.
With the arrival of the Demon King, the entire battlefield quieted down.
The monsters all stopped attacking, crouched in place, growling softly and sharpening their claws. Despite being full of violent energy, they now behaved as obediently as three-year-old children.
The Human Race Knights tried to seize this chance to attack the monsters, or retreat with the wounded, but suddenly they lost control of their limbs, standing frozen in place, unable to move at all.
The chaotic battlefield was, for a moment, drowned in silence.
It was as if all color had been drained from the world, fading to a still gray and white. Only the woman at the center of it all, dressed in crimson gauze like a seductive dancer, radiated with vibrant life.
One of the Seven Demon Kings—Jiele Xiyin, whose true form was a Six-Eyed Stealth Spider, but who preferred to walk the world clad in a human skin.
By human standards, her human appearance was dazzlingly beautiful: cheeks like apples, enormous breasts like coconuts, skin fairer and smoother than milk. The stark contrast between her pure aura and her wanton behavior had led to an abundance of R18 Artbooks featuring her among the humans.
Rumor had it that the earliest of those artbooks were actually released by Jiele Xiyin herself to satisfy her own peculiar tastes, all to prove that she was the most alluring Demon King upon this land.
All of this was merely the result of her terrifyingly twisted jealousy.
But back to the point.
Rotissa had already heard that there was an internal rebellion within the Southern Territory’s Demon Race, and that a newborn Demon King, weak in power, had been driven out by the old Demon Kings from Demon King City.
No, not driven out.
That newborn Demon King had barely escaped with their life.
In the world of the Demon Race, the victor would usually consume the loser to seize the Power of Authority within their body.
Unless the loser was so worthless that they didn’t even qualify as food.
However, even the weakest Demon King still possessed some Power of Authority.
With Jiele Xiyin’s personality, once the newborn Demon King fell into her hands, escape would be impossible—they would be devoured.
Yet now, it seemed that defeated Demon King not only escaped, but was still at large.
Even in the Demon Forest, crawling with spiders, that Demon King hadn’t been found… Could they have slipped into the Human frontline?
And now, seeing Jiele Xiyin appear on the Kingdom of Humanity’s land—had she come specifically to hunt the prey who slipped from her grasp?
Black Mask, the Demon King, and Rotissa stood together, none making the first move.
“So all of this is your doing, then.” Rotissa slowly turned to face the Demon King behind her, her voice cold. “Just for your own selfish desires, you’ve thrown the entire Southern Territory into chaos, causing countless Human Race Knights and soldiers to die because of you…”
“Don’t go dumping all the blame on me.” Jiele Xiyin replied, “If your humans hadn’t allowed it, do you really think I could have appeared here so easily? Like a tourist, strolling around.”
As she spoke, Jiele Xiyin couldn’t hold back a mocking laugh, covering her mouth as she jeered, “Pitiful Brave, even though your master no longer needs you, you’re still doing your job like a loyal dog. Come on, bark for me twice. Maybe if I’m in a good mood, I’ll let you all die more easily.”
Before she finished speaking.
Rotissa raised her spear and lunged forward, the spear tip forming a powerful Backtracking Field, pulling Jiele Xiyin in, forcing her toward the point of the spear.
Just as she dodged out of the spear’s path, in the next instant, she was returned to where she’d just been standing.
“Wretch!”
Jiele Xiyin, furious, morphed her right hand into a menacing Spider Spear, thrusting it at Rotissa’s throat.
“Attack!” Black Mask still only commanded his subordinates, retreating himself toward the edge of the battle.
At his order, the multitude of growling monsters moved once again, pouncing toward the nearest enemies.
“Fire, fire, fire! Open fire!” Second Mate Skinny roared. The Ark’s large-caliber Magical Crystal Cannon was the most effective weapon they had against these monsters—no contest.
But the monsters were too scattered, and the Dragon-type Magical Beasts flying through the sky were even harder to hit. The Anti-Air Fire Net didn’t have the power of the Magical Crystal Cannon and couldn’t pierce the high-level Dragon’s scales.
The Elf Girl, transformed into the Silver Deer, was now so exhausted she could barely hum her own inspiring tune. She smashed through the Trap Net woven by the Octopus Monster’s tentacles, charging straight toward the Demon King.
Capture the king, then the bandits will collapse—this was one of the most effective tactics she’d learned on her journey.
Even knowing her odds of success were slim, she still charged forward without hesitation.
To kill or heavily injure the Demon King was their only chance.
The Dragons soaring above noticed the Elf Girl’s intent. They swooped down, breathing searing flames that could melt iron.
“Hurry! That damned monster is dropping altitude—aim, quick!” Second Mate Skinny, tasked with monitoring the battlefield, also spotted the Elf Girl’s intent and immediately ordered the gunners to provide covering fire.
But whether it was the distance or poor aim, not a single of the many thunderous magical shells struck the Dragons. The overwhelming barrage made for a grand display, but none hit their mark.
Still, the covering fire wasn’t entirely wasted.
The Elf Girl not only shook off the monsters snapping at her heels but could even launch a counterattack against the fire-breathing Dragons overhead.
She ran faster and faster, like a silver comet streaking across the battlefield.
Gradually, the Dragons couldn’t keep up.
Yet Aiselyn did not relax for a moment, channeling all her power into her antlers, preparing to deal a fatal blow to the Demon King locked in combat with Rotissa.
Just then, the Dragon that had been left trailing suddenly flew into a rage, roaring and accelerating, closing in on the Elf Girl in just two seconds.
Aiselyn kicked off with her hind legs, shattering the ice beneath her as the wind howled—at that moment, the Silver Deer was swifter than lightning, streaking forward in a dazzling white arc.
The Dragon in pursuit didn’t even have time to react before the Silver Deer outpaced the lightning itself, vanishing gracefully from its sight.
“!”
Second Mate Skinny rubbed his eyes in disbelief. That massive teammate of theirs had just disappeared right under his nose.
Jiele Xiyin’s Spider Spear pierced the Brave’s shoulder. As she prepared to tear open her hateful foe’s flesh, Rotissa activated her power again, sending Jiele Xiyin back three seconds, then began to heal her own wounds.
The taste of blood was intoxicating. Jiele Xiyin licked the blood from her right Spider Spear as if savoring a delicacy.
There was Nerve Toxin on the Spider Spear—ordinary means would not suffice to heal it.
She wanted to see just how long this Brave could endure, burning through her power like this.
At that moment, Jiele Xiyin sensed a threat rapidly approaching from behind.
Pure spider instinct—a premonition honed by the Queen of Spiders herself, incomparably sharp and precise.
She had no choice but to abandon her attack on Rotissa, unfurling eight Spider Spears from her back like a blossoming flower.
But aside from the group of Masked Men taking turns, there were hardly any monsters left nearby.
So where was this hair-raising sense of danger coming from?
Jiele Xiyin grew alert. For the first time since her arrival, she felt real danger.
