Vyea had no idea what kind of grand performance this tearful, wronged-looking cat-eared girl was putting on.
Nor did she understand why her one and only former apprentice would appear here, unrecognizable at the moment.
All she knew was this:
She had just moved into a new home, and someone was already lurking outside her door.
Not good, very not good.
Could it really be!
A ninety-nine percent chance it was a new account!
In short, Vyea felt like she was being watched.
Targeted simultaneously by one of the great demons under the current Seven Demon Kings and the Brave, a symbol of one of humanity’s highest powers.
Both of them were experiencing a curious feeling toward Vyea.
Like kittens discovering a brand-new ball of yarn, or a dog sniffing out its long-lost owner’s scent.
“Brave, is there something you wanted from me? Hmm, don’t just stand outside come in and have some hot tea to warm up.”
The sky hadn’t yet lightened, but Vyea had no intention of leaving them out in the cold.
Besides, she herself had many unanswered questions.
“Miss…”
Lania’s beautiful purple eyes glanced discreetly at the cat-eared girl who was boldly lounging on the sofa, holding a paper cup and wagging her tail as she waited for the tea.
“Isn’t pouring tea a maid’s job? Or are you two playing some sort of roleplay? Sneaking in at two in the morning must be part of this embarrassing act, right?”
“Meow~ meow.” That’s right. Herkate responded in cat language, her seductive crimson eyes filled with indifference.
“Not at all!”
Vyea said as she poured the tea, deliberately ignoring Herkate’s expectant gaze and added to the familiar young Brave:
“She’s just a stray cat I took in temporarily. Hmm, have you read the story of the Three Little Cats? Three little cats wandering in the Forest, they built three houses to defend against their natural enemies. The oldest’s straw house was blown away by the wind, the second’s wooden house was burned down, and the third’s stone house collapsed, crushing them all.”
“I’m not a stray cat!”
Herkate felt insulted and snapped, “Also, why aren’t you pouring me any tea?”
“Creatures like cats are notoriously hard to domesticate, and their intelligence isn’t high enough. Better to send them away sooner rather than later.”
Lania answered while pulling Herkate’s scattered attention back and giving Vyea a somewhat surprised look:
“Miss, you’ve been to the Academic Tower too?”
“Of course,” Vyea smiled brightly as she led the conversation.
The cat girl, seeing her smile for the first time, was stunned. So your so-called poker face really was just to fool me!
Seeing the young Brave’s eyes grow slightly distant, Vyea changed the topic:
“The Human Race has a limited quota for official Braves. Once that quota is exceeded, Blessings will no longer descend, and no new Braves will appear.”
In Vyea’s memory, when she was active as a Brave, all eighteen slots were already taken.
Among humans, there was no shortage of these passionate, determined souls.
Sadly, the ultimate fate of Braves seemed always to be death.
As a transmigrator, Vyea later became the Strongest Hero in history.
She was confident, believing her life was some kind of overpowered Dragon Ao Tian script, arriving here to crush all resistance and shatter all fated obstacles.
Later, Vyea met her lover—the Demon King.
That proud yet gentle Demon King taught Vyea a lesson with death.
She was not the world’s favorite.
Too sad.
Too painful.
Painful.
It really hurt.
Like a needle growing in her heart, even the slightest move could cause sleepless nights.
Under the curious gazes of the cat girl and the Brave beside her, Vyea, who had just been giggling, suddenly stopped laughing.
Guess why I’m not smiling.
Is it because I don’t like to smile?
“I actually don’t like to smile,” Vyea said, spreading her small hands, face cold as she spoke to the two.
Herkate nodded knowingly.
Not only do you hate smiling, but you also love to drink and roast people—quite a bad habit.
The young Brave noticed Vyea was recalling unhappy memories. Although curious, she wouldn’t ask unless Vyea wanted to share.
“You’re right,” the Brave sighed, her mood dropping. “Since we lost the Strongest Hero three years ago, several other Braves have died at the hands of the other Demon Kings.”
Her tightly clenched fists trembled slightly as Lania suppressed her hatred for the Demon Race and spoke calmly:
“Don’t worry. All demons will be wiped out by us Braves. I will carry out my teacher’s will until my very last breath.”
“…”
“…”
The atmosphere in the room instantly grew heavy, but it was quickly broken by the clear, tinkling sound of a wind chime.
Ding-ding-ling~
Lania stood up promptly, apologizing softly to the white-haired little girl sitting quietly opposite them while putting down the steaming hot tea:
“Sorry, things have been a bit restless in the city lately. I have to leave. Please be careful and don’t go out easily at night.”
Without even two seconds passing, she hurried back and solemnly asked the white-haired girl again:
“I really enjoyed talking with you. Can I come again next time?”
“You’re welcome.”
