Just as everyone was beginning to worry for Nuobai, a spectacular scene unfolded on the stage.
The Flame Dog acted as if it couldn’t even see Nuobai. It spun in circles like a headless fly.
Nuobai circled around it, her Sharp Claw flashing, yet she never appeared in its line of sight.
She was like an elegant Ghost Princess toying with a hideous monster.
“Student, are the duels in your Beast Taming Department always like this?”
‘Like hell they are,’ the boy thought. He had never seen such a ridiculous scene in his life. It was a complete curb-stomp.
‘Is this cat even scientific?’
It was time to finish the job.
Finally, Nuobai severed its four limbs and crushed its spine with one foot.
As blood sprayed into the air, it scattered around to form a beautiful painting.
Nuobai stood in the center of it, her fur perfectly groomed and still pure white.
Nuobai surveyed the crowd, and the surroundings instantly fell into a dead silence.
Then, a thunderous cheer erupted.
“Snow Joy Cat!”
“Snow Joy Cat!”
Nuobai looked at the referee, her gaze asking, ‘What are you waiting for?’
“The Flame Dog is unable to battle. Snow Joy Cat wins!”
“Whoa!” everyone cheered in unison.
Steadying herself to catch the pouncing Nuobai, Bai Luxin hurriedly checked the cat’s body. She had been scared to death several times just now.
“Are you hurt?”
‘No,’ Nuobai replied through their bond. ‘Master, did you see that? I’m super strong.’
Beside them, Zhou Huimin chimed in, “Nuobai, you were amazing!”
She was so envious she was practically drooling.
How could there be a Beast Pet that was both beautiful and such a capable fighter? How were other people supposed to compete?
Noticing someone trying to sneak away, Nuobai gently wriggled out of Bai Luxin’s arms and blocked Zhao Weiwei’s path.
Having just won, Nuobai was undoubtedly the center of attention.
Seeing her stop Zhao Weiwei, everyone remembered there was still a bet to settle. They settled in to watch the drama unfold with great interest.
‘You’re abandoning your own Beast Pet and trying to run away alone? You really are scum,’ Nuobai thought.
“Of course, I don’t care if you’re scum, but you need to kneel and apologize first.”
Nuobai bared her Sharp Claw, a fierce glint flashing in her vertical pupils. “Otherwise, don’t even think about leaving this place.”
Intimidated by Nuobai’s aura, Zhao Weiwei turned pale, finding it difficult to breathe. “Don’t go too far.”
“Too far?” Bai Luxin countered. “You’re the one who started the conflict, and you’re the one who proposed the duel.”
“Now that you’ve lost, you want to just walk away? You might not be much to look at, but you certainly have a vivid imagination.”
Since the girl refused to apologize, Nuobai felt a surge of hostility and decided she needed to leave something behind. The cat took a step forward.
Seeing her raise a paw and remembering her brutal performance on stage, Zhao Weiwei was nearly moved to tears by fear.
“No, don’t come any closer…”
“Student Zhao Weiwei, why don’t you apologize to Student Bai Luxin? We can let this matter go then.”
“Dean of Students!”
Seeing the Dean of Students step in was like receiving a divine pardon. Zhao Weiwei muttered, “I’m sorry, I’m sorry…” and ran off.
Nuobai wanted to stop her, but Bai Luxin picked her up and placed her on her shoulder. Nuobai could only glare unhappily at the interloper, a middle-aged man with graying hair.
Noticing Nuobai’s dissatisfaction, the Dean of Students offered a slightly fawning smile and whispered, “Student Bai Luxin, Nuobai, please give me some face. I have some good news to tell you.”
The Dean of Students had been called over by Zhou Huimin. She had been afraid that if Nuobai lost, Bai Luxin would be harassed.
When he arrived, he happened to catch the final, brilliant segment of Nuobai’s battle.
By using Silent Step to eliminate the sound of her movements and staying in the opponent’s blind spots before attacking with Sharp Claw, her technique was flawless. It was at least at the Perfection level.
Combined with the fact that she was a Snow Joy Cat, he had already guessed Nuobai’s identity.
She was the champion of last year’s Survival Tournament, arguably the most popular star Beast Pet in Dragon Sleep City that year.
If she joined the Campus Grand Competition in one week, they would surely be able to crush the neighboring Yulan Academy.
‘If I were the one who lost just now, would you have stepped in?’ Nuobai questioned the Dean, her tail repeatedly flicking against Bai Luxin’s cheek.
“Of course. After all, kneeling in public would have a very negative influence.”
‘He just didn’t want things to get out of hand,’ Nuobai thought. ‘He talks so righteously now, yet he ignores bullying when it’s behind the scenes. Hypocrite!’
“Nuobai.”
Bai Luxin reached out and scratched Nuobai under the chin.
“Mew~”
Nuobai let out a comfortable sound. Her face instantly flushed red, and she hurriedly pulled away, forgetting her interrogation.
Seeing that she had achieved her goal, Bai Luxin didn’t chase after her to keep scratching.
Nuobai stood there with her tail stiff, twitching back and forth, her fur slightly puffed up.
“Dean, did you need something from us?”
“Oh, right. I want you to participate in the Campus Grand Competition in one week.”
Watching Nuobai’s cute reaction, the Dean’s hands felt itchy. He wanted to reach out and scratch her too, but he sensed his face would likely end up shredded, so he gave up on the idea.
“Nuobai is so powerful; she’ll definitely win next week. This competition involves a match against Yulan Academy, and the rewards are very generous.”
“You’ll be able to bring glory to the school and obtain resources for your Beast Pet. It’s a wonderful opportunity.”
“I’m sorry, but I don’t plan on letting Nuobai participate.”
Feeling Nuobai get a bit anxious on her shoulder, Bai Luxin squeezed her paw, signaling her to stay calm and let her keep talking.
“Nuobai is just an Ornamental Species. How could she possibly beat a Combat Breed?”
“Ah, no, didn’t she just win very easily?”
“And she’s Nuobai, the Miracle Cat! How could she be the same as a normal Ornamental Species!”
“I’m sorry, I won’t let her enter the competition.”
Bai Luxin spoke firmly, but she made no move to leave. The hand holding Nuobai’s paw was trembling slightly from nervousness.
‘I have to fight for the best interest for Nuobai.’
The Dean of Students also noticed something was up. “As long as you participate, all training facilities in the Department of Beast Taming will be free to use for this week. You can also go to the School Vault and choose any one item.”
Bai Luxin was about to agree when Nuobai spoke first.
“Not enough. We want ten items from the vault and a 5,000,000 appearance fee.”
“No way!”
The Dean of Students nearly jumped out of his skin. How could she have the nerve to ask for so much?
“No, absolutely not. Two items at most, and not a single cent of money.”
“Then forget it.”
“Fine, forget it then!”
‘Master, let’s go,’ Nuobai thought.
As they started to walk away, the Dean was certain they would turn back.
‘Turn back, turn back now… Why aren’t they turning back? Kids these days are way too composed.’
‘Master, where is Yulan Academy? Can we transfer there?’
Hearing those words, the Dean could no longer hold back. You couldn’t play like that!
“Wait!”
“Three items. Three items at most and a 1,000,000 appearance fee. If you compete, I’ll give it to you.”
“I really can’t give any more than that. Won’t there be more rewards if you win? It’s already quite a lot when you add it all up.”
Seeing Nuobai nod, Bai Luxin breathed a sigh of relief. She had been incredibly nervous trying to negotiate like characters in a novel.
Nuobai’s little stunt had made her even more tense.
“Then, Dean, let’s fulfill the promise first.”
……
“Xinxi, are you okay? If I had known Nuobai would win, I wouldn’t have called that old geezer over.”
“Xiao Min, thank you.”
“He didn’t make things difficult for you, did he? Why did he pull you aside just now? If he had any bad intentions, I would have reported him.”
Bai Luxin shook her head. “The Dean of Students wants Nuobai and me to participate in the Campus Grand Competition next week.”
“Whoa!” Zhou Huimin looked at Nuobai and then at her friend, imagining them dominating the competition.
“Then I’ll definitely be there to cheer for you!”
