“No need to go to the supermarket—there’s food right in our dorm building!”
Zhang Yu suddenly slammed the table and jumped to his feet in excitement.
However, in his fervor, he clearly forgot that the dorm table was right beneath the upper bunk bed.
With a loud thud, Lin Mo watched as Zhang Yu clutched his forehead, looking like he was about to cry from the pain.
“……..”
Lin Mo’s lips twitched before he finally asked, “What do you mean?”
Grimacing for a while, Zhang Yu finally replied, “There are so many rooms in this building—there must be people who stockpile food in their dorms, right? And when the disaster hit, it was dinnertime, so a lot of people weren’t even in their rooms. So…”
“I see…”
Lin Mo nodded.
It made sense-some dorms were bound to be empty but still full of food.
“But we don’t have the keys to those rooms!”
“We don’t, but someone does.”
As he spoke, Zhang Yu glanced downward.
Lin Mo immediately understood.
The dorm management office on the first floor should have spare keys for all the rooms.
But their dorm was on the sixth floor, and going down there would be extremely dangerous-they’d almost certainly run into zombies, given they’d have to traverse six whole floors.
But wasn’t this exactly what Lin Mo wanted?
Alone, he was no match for a zombie, but with four people, they could easily handle a lone one.
This way, he could both find food and gain experience by killing zombies—a perfect two-for-one.
“Alright, let’s do it!”
Lin Mo clapped his hands decisively.
“Are we really going?”
Zhou Kai, however, hesitated at this point.
After all, the situation outside was unknown-how many zombies lurked in those six floors?
Going out meant risking death.
Meanwhile, Wang Jie’s face had gone completely pale with fear.
He shook his head repeatedly.
“I’m not going. If you want to go… you go!”
“You’d rather starve?”
Lin Mo frowned at him, his tone accusatory.
“I’d rather starve than get eaten by zombies! Besides, won’t you bring food back?”
Wang Jie shot back, clearly irritated by Lin Mo’s tone.
“You-”
Lin Mo wanted to argue further but held back.
At a time like this, wasting energy on bickering was pointless better to save it for fighting zombies.
“If he doesn’t want to go, forget it.”
Zhang Yu gave Wang Jie a sidelong glance before speaking slowly.
“Let him stay. Zhou Kai, are you in?”
“I…”
Zhou Kai hesitated, his face twisted in conflict.
After a long pause, he finally looked up, gritted his teeth, and said, “I’ll go!”
“Good!”
Zhang Yu nodded, then picked up the detached mop handle he’d prepared earlier, handing one to Lin Mo.
He then dismantled the broom handle and passed it to Zhou Kai.
After some final preparations, the three of them grabbed their last remaining bottle of water and opened the dorm door.
“We’re heading out…”
Zhang Yu, walking last, turned back to Wang Jie before stepping out.
There was something odd in his gaze, a faint sneer playing at the corners of his lips as he waved at Wang Jie—almost like a farewell…
Then, without giving Wang Jie a chance to react, he shut the door directly.
With a loud “bang” of the door closing, Wang Jie stared at the entrance, his lips parting slightly. For some reason, regret flickered in his heart.
But then he thought of the terrifying zombies outside and bit his lip, muttering to himself in a mocking tone, “Bunch of idiots. Who knows how many zombies are out there? They’re just asking to die. The authorities will send help soon. All I have to do is wait here…”
“They’ll definitely come… soon…”
The dorm room fell into dead silence.
