As soon as she pushed open the heavy pure white living room door, a refreshing cool breeze blew onto Ning Chuxue’s face.
Cool, carrying the scent of autumn.
A path paved with granite slabs appeared in Ning Chuxue’s view. The road was about two meters wide, with night lights spaced at intervals on either side.
On the left and right were small decorative fountains.
Extending inward, there were storage rooms, warehouses, and various small structures.
Continuing further, there was a wall encircling the entire estate.
The inner side of the wall was painted a light green, with a few dim fluorescent lamps inserted into the ground right against it.
The outer side was a plain white paint job.
Following the path with her eyes, at the end was a sky-blue arch gate four meters tall.
The gate was currently wide open, and a deep black car was parked in front of it.
“Poor little thing, how does it feel to go to school?”
Mu Wannuo stood behind Ning Chuxue, wearing a brown casual outfit.
“A little… nervous.” Ning Chuxue stammered. She was wearing the same outfit she had changed into in her room.
It was worth noting that Mu Wannuo had requested she wear a knee-length skirt.
The reason was that other skirts were too short and might attract ill intentions when going out.
Ning Chuxue didn’t have any appearance anxiety, so she agreed without much thought.
It didn’t matter to her what she wore.
Mu Wannuo grabbed Ning Chuxue’s hand and walked forward along the stone path.
Ning Chuxue’s hair was too long, so it had been cut shorter, now reaching just to the joint of her legs.
So she walked boldly, without the hair dragging on the ground and getting the ends dirty.
When they reached the black car, Mu Wannuo pulled the handle of the rear door, opening it a crack.
Almost instantly, the smell of wood chips mixed with leather rushed into Ning Chuxue’s nose.
It wasn’t pungent or particularly unpleasant, just very strong.
By the time Mu Wannuo fully opened the door, Ning Chuxue didn’t hesitate and naturally sat down.
Even if she had hesitated, it wouldn’t have made a difference.
Faced with the care of her three older sisters, Ning Chuxue had long felt guilty.
Always receiving favors without being able to reciprocate.
This unequal treatment also put a lot of pressure on Ning Chuxue’s heart.
For a long time afterward, Wen Yasheng came every day to advise her not to worry about it.
While comforting her, she would say things like “Having Chuxue by our side is already the best reward.”
It sounded a bit strange, but Ning Chuxue didn’t take it to heart, simply treating it as normal comforting words.
Under Wen Yasheng’s reassurance, Ning Chuxue became much more cheerful. She stopped mentioning it verbally but silently kept it in her heart.
By now, she had gotten completely used to this unequal giving and taking.
Mu Wannuo didn’t start the car immediately. She waited until Ning Chuxue was settled before turning on the engine.
The trees by the roadside slowly receded until they vanished from Ning Chuxue’s sight.
After a while, the strange smell of leather and wood chips grew stronger, so Ning Chuxue had to lower the window halfway for ventilation.
Fresh air blew in, and the odor finally dissipated a bit.
Ning Chuxue pressed her arm against the edge of the window, propping her head up with her palm, and stared blankly outside with her gray-white eyes.
The car sped up, eventually reaching sixty miles per hour.
They were in the suburbs with little traffic, so going a bit faster was fine.
This wasn’t Ning Chuxue’s first time going out.
A few days earlier, she had gone out for a follow-up appointment regarding her unusual illness.
The appointment was at the Central Affiliated Hospital.
The medical equipment there was comprehensive, and it was one of the key hospitals sponsored by the state.
The final result of the check-up was no signs of improvement.
As usual, the amnesia persisted, and her weak constitution showed no recovery.
If it were just these two issues, it would only be a little more trouble for Ning Chuxue’s sisters.
No, not even trouble.
Anything related to Ning Chuxue was never trouble in their eyes.
Although the examination results only showed these two points, other potential symptoms couldn’t be ruled out.
That was what they had always been worried about.
Fortunately, from the time Ning Chuxue woke up until now, the strange illness hadn’t shown any signs of worsening.
After observing for a few more days and confirming there were no more problems, Ning Chuxue’s three sisters decided to arrange for her to return to school.
Hence, Ning Chuxue was going to school today.
She herself had a very positive attitude. It was just changing the place she lived.
Besides, to make Ning Chuxue’s campus life more comfortable, Wen Yasheng had generously bought a school district house nearby.
She was truly extravagant.
“Poor little thing.” Mu Wannuo’s sudden voice pulled Ning Chuxue, who had been lost in thought, back to reality.
“Sister Mowan, what’s wrong?”
Ning Chuxue had already figured out the pattern of addressing Mu Wannuo.
In formal occasions, when mentioning serious matters, or when pretending to be angry, her form of address would change to “Chuxue” or “Ning Chuxue.”
Whenever the situation was relaxed, it would change back to “poor little thing.”
“Once we get to school, make sure to stick close to me and don’t wander off.”
“I know, Sister Mowan, don’t make such a big deal out of it. I’m a grown-up, how could I get lost?”
Ning Chuxue withdrew her gaze and looked at the girl driving in the front seat.
The latter glanced at the rearview mirror and then focused back on the road.
“Never say never.”
Her face showed concern, as well as worry.
“I’m not a child.” Ning Chuxue retorted defiantly.
She pulled her gaze back while pulling up all the armrests in the back seat, turning the seats into a small sofa.
Finally, she smoothed her skirt and hair and lay down.
“That’s not necessarily true.” Mu Wannuo’s worried eyes regained a bit of brightness.
She wasn’t sure if it was her imagination, but she felt Ning Chuxue had matured a lot, gaining some adult-like mentality.
But then…
Looking at Ning Chuxue curled up on the back seat, still biting her fingernails.
Hmm…
She did have some adult mentality, but her behavior didn’t match.
Ning Chuxue paused for a long time, as if considering her words, then stubbornly retorted again: “Sister Mowan just likes to overthink.”
Hearing Ning Chuxue’s next words, Mu Wannuo just smiled faintly without answering.
During their casual chat, the car drove onto an elevated bridge.
The midday sun happened to be in the direction of the car’s travel, shining directly onto Mu Wannuo’s face.
She had no choice but to take out a pair of sunglasses from the glasses pouch hanging by the car door.
Mu Wannuo with the sunglasses on formed an extreme contrast to her usual serious image.
She looked like a rebellious, defiant girl.
After her worry subsided, Mu Wannuo also felt she was overthinking.
After all, Shen Ruqing was also at school.
Under her deliberate arrangement, Ning Chuxue’s seat happened to be right next to Shen Ruqing’s.
