With the identity matter settled for the time being, the young girl’s previously heavy heart felt much lighter, and all that remained was to patiently wait.
After all, according to the man with the hat, matters involving gender correction usually took at least ten days.
Of course, if you factored in the time to receive the new ID card, it might take over a month.
But Lin Xinyuan didn’t mind at all.
After all, this trip home was essentially an early holiday, and with more than two months until the next semester started, there was no need to worry about needing the ID anytime soon.
With her issue resolved, Lin’s mother didn’t rush to find work but instead took her to a hospital specializing in psychological therapy.
Another ten or so crisp bills were spent, and Lin Xinyuan received one hour of psychological therapy.
The doctor treating her was a middle-aged woman with a kind smile, looking very experienced.
However, during the therapy session… she didn’t feel anything at all.
It was probably just some EEG tests, followed by a few vague questions, and then that was it.
In the end, the doctor avoided Lin Xinyuan and spoke privately with Lin’s mother for a long while before bidding them farewell.
Lin Xinyuan went home with her mother…
As December neared its end, the online forum of Tianbei University was unusually lively.
It wasn’t because of the upcoming final exams—no one cared about those on the forum.
Rather, in the past two days, a massive scandal had rocked the school—arguably the biggest in the past decade!
That was the protagonist “Lin Minghua,” recently exposed by an anonymous account, now behind bars.
Reliable sources revealed that this guy was caught red-handed during a group activity by the “man with the hat.”
He now faced possible imprisonment, and authorities had traced serious tax evasion back to his father, Lin’s Father’s company.
The uproar was huge. Naturally, Qin Nanfeng was aware of it all and, in fact, could be considered the “ringleader” of the whole affair…
But he didn’t have the time to follow all the online chatter.
It was afternoon at the Xiangyu Cafe near Tianbei University.
Outside, snowflakes drifted down, and the snow piled by the roadside sparkled like crystals, yet none of this disturbed the customers inside.
The warmth inside made it feel like an entirely different world from the freezing cold outside…
After ordering drinks, Cheng Qian smiled at the tall, handsome figure beside him and said, “So, satisfied now?”
Dressed in a suit and coat, he looked every bit the businessman.
As he spoke, he moved to sit by the window.
The young man next to him was dressed very differently, leaning toward a casual style.
A simple cardigan, a black down jacket over it, a light brown scarf around his neck—such a plain outfit, yet on him, it was strikingly eye-catching.
“Don’t sit there…” Seeing Cheng Qian about to take that seat, Qin Nanfeng narrowed his eyes and grabbed his arm, pulling him up.
Cheng Qian was bewildered as he was pulled away and before he could react, was pressed into the opposite seat.
“This side’s warmer, I’ll suffer a little,” Qin Nanfeng said, sitting down in the seat Cheng Qian had aimed for.
Cheng Qian finally caught on, a mass of question marks filling his head. “What? Dude, are you okay? Isn’t it the same no matter where you sit?”
Qin Nanfeng’s expression didn’t change.
He lowered his head, thought for a moment, then nodded. “Yeah… that’s true, but don’t sweat the details.”
“Also… thanks for that thing.”
Across from him, Cheng Qian twitched the corner of his mouth, speechless. “Pfft, what a pain… Only when you need me do you want to meet up!”
Then he laughed, as if recalling something amusing. “But that matter, the old man really got unlucky. He was secretly skimming off so much—such a huge gap and he still dared to do it. So careless, bound to get caught…”
“Oh, and that Lin Gongzi? That’s hilarious. Screwing over his own father… The expression on his face when he got caught, haha…”
“Want me to send you the meme? Goose goose goose.”
“And…”
Cheng Qian chattered nonstop, completely ignoring how out of place his lively behavior was with his business attire.
Even when the waitress came by to serve their coffee, he didn’t stop.
No need to worry about disturbing anyone; the cafe was nearly empty, and the tables beside them were vacant.
Qin Nanfeng said nothing, just listened quietly, chuckling occasionally.
No matter how calm he usually was, hearing Cheng Qian talk about “Lin Gongzi” still made him stifle a laugh.
But whenever he thought about that guy, a chill flickered in his eyes…
After ten or so minutes, Cheng Qian was growing tired of talking.
He took a sip of coffee and then set the cup down, eyes flicking casually. “Hey, by the way… why isn’t your classmate living over on South Street anymore?”
Qin Nanfeng immediately saw through Cheng Qian’s intention but only glanced at him coldly. “None of your business. You’re spying on me again.”
His tone was flat, clearly already expecting this.
“Hey, that’s not it! I’m just looking out for you. I mean, you haven’t been back for so long, I was worried something happened, haha…”
Cheng Qian laughed awkwardly, trying to change the subject.
Qin Nanfeng nodded knowingly. “Probably her mission, right?”
“No.”
“Tsk…”
“Really not.”
“Liar won’t get a wife.”
“Alright, alright, I admit it! Geez, no need to curse me—who curses their own family?”
Qin Nanfeng gave a noncommittal “hehe…”
“Hey, if your friend thinks it’s expensive, I can get someone to give her a discount.”
Cheng Qian rubbed his hands together and grinned, not giving up on probing.
He was also frustrated! But what could he do? It was her mission!
After investigating for so many days with no results from Zhan Nan City, and with nothing else going on, he came here hoping to dig up some news…
Qin Nanfeng’s smile was thin, almost forced. “My matters don’t need their involvement.”
Damn… no information again… gave up…
Thinking this, Cheng Qian sighed helplessly. “Hey… you’re something else!”
Just as he was about to give up, the young man suddenly spoke again, eyes firm: “Three years… in three years, I will definitely go back once.”
“By then, I’ll have made a name for myself…”
Qin Nanfeng added silently in his heart.
He wasn’t about to let that guy look down on him—not going to just bow his head quietly.
Three years should be enough…
At these words, Cheng Qian’s eyes lit up, staring intently, shocked.
“Damn, the kid finally figured it out!”
He hadn’t expected his childhood friend to come to this realization—before, he would’ve brushed it off outright.
This was a huge surprise, a massive one!
“You looking for a fight?” The other’s eyes darkened.
“Cough cough… You misheard.” Cheng Qian smiled awkwardly, inwardly miserable.
Cheng Qian, man! You’re just the tool for those siblings! Damn, I’m done for…
But he hadn’t given up on his main goal yet. “Well… also…”
Before he could finish, Qin Nanfeng cut him off, pressing his lips together. “I know what you’re investigating. Don’t ask about her anymore… What I do is none of your business, plain and simple…”
He paused. “Besides, she and I aren’t…”
At this, an uncomfortable feeling tightened in his chest, refusing to subside.
After speaking, Qin Nanfeng ignored Cheng Qian, who was busy typing on his phone, and instead stared out the window.
Back then, she sat in this very spot, looking out as well.
Only at that time, the view outside wasn’t filled with white snow…
For some reason, he suddenly wanted to see her again…
