In the next moment, the City Lord’s body suddenly began to mutate. Sharp bone spurs pierced through the skin at his joints, and bone-like growths appeared on the top of his head and tail, forming a line of jagged spikes.
Within seconds, it looked as though the City Lord was about to transform into a monster like a Prison Dog.
The Medic, drenched in sweat, continuously channeled Magical Power in an attempt to suppress Longwu Didu’s transformation.
However, the toxin seemed to sense that someone was trying to separate it from the host. A tail made of flesh and spikes whipped out at an incredible speed, thrusting toward the Medic’s head.
Unable to dodge in time, the Medic closed his eyes in terror, but the expected impact never came. Xidi had caught the thrashing bone tail in her palm.
The sharp spikes pierced her hand, and the dripping blood splashed onto the joints. Instead of stopping it, the blood seemed to stimulate the transformation further, causing the City Lord’s mutation to accelerate.
Xidi struggled to hold the tail back, her gaze turning to Ailaira for help as she managed a bitter smile. “Miss Ailaira, please help. This City cannot afford to lose its City Lord yet.”
Ailaira stared at the City Lord, whose face was now purplish-blue as he shifted further toward becoming a dragon-like beast.
After a moment of silence, she reached out and pressed her hand against his head. In the next instant, a surge of purplish-black evil magical power was extracted from the City Lord’s body and absorbed into hers. Ailaira nonchalantly shook her hand and tossed the City Lord into the Medic’s arms.
“The toxin has been dealt with. Just give him some rest and he’ll be fine.”
The Medic hurriedly thanked her and left while carrying the City Lord on his back. Xidi stared intently at Ailaira’s face, noting that she showed no signs of change or even a shift in her breathing.
She praised her sincerely, “Your Excellency the Water Silver Witch is truly as formidable as they say.”
“Miss Xidi, I am more curious about why the City Lord was the target.”
For Dragon Poison to be effective, it must be implanted into the victim’s body within ten minutes of leaving the original host.
This meant that only Kuchierkan and Andrea were in a position to do such a thing.
However, Dragon Poison would not infect anyone unless it was secreted with the Dragonkind’s conscious intent. Even if someone were to stick their tongue directly into a dragon’s mouth, they wouldn’t be poisoned.
After all, Andrea had kissed Kuchierkan so many times and had never shown any signs of poisoning.
Ailaira did not believe it was either of the two. Andrea wouldn’t do something like this, and Kuchierkan had no motive. But while she understood that, others did not.
The Secretary Officer, who already harbored suspicions toward the Non-Human Races, grew even more furious. He looked directly at Kuchierkan and interrogated her, “Miss Kuchierkan, please cooperate with our investigation. If you are not the one who planted the toxin, we will release you.”
“Huh? You think I’ll just cooperate because you told me to? I already said it wasn’t me!” Kuchierkan clearly had no intention of complying. She swept a disdainful gaze over the surrounding Royal Guards.
“You think you can take me down with this many people? Try it if you have the guts!”
“So you’re admitting that you poisoned the City Lord!”
Kuchierkan cursed loudly, raising her left hand and pointing it at the Secretary Officer.
“Do you not understand human speech? Do I look like I have nothing better to do than poison a human? I don’t care for the underhanded tactics of those weaklings. I only fight fair and square.”
“Besides, Dragon Poison is something that any dragon — “
Halfway through her sentence, Kuchierkan seemed to remember something and glanced at Andrea. Andrea blinked her eyes frantically, signaling her to shut up! Don’t drag her into this!
In truth, the Secretary Officer didn’t need Kuchierkan to say anything more. He had already considered the possibility that other members of the Non-Human Races might have followed the Visiting Delegation and secretly infiltrated the City to poison the Lord.
That was why he had detained all the guests. Now, he was just waiting for the Race Investigation Magic to be prepared so they could test everyone.
As long as they found the hidden member of the Dragonkind in the crowd, that person would almost certainly be the culprit.
Hearing that there would be a race inspection, Andrea was stunned. ‘How did it turn into them targeting me!’
She moved silently to Ailaira’s side, making eye contact with her to communicate: ‘What do I do? I’ll definitely be exposed!’
Ailaira: ‘Don’t worry, I won’t even pass the second test myself.’
Andrea: ‘Ah? What are you talking about?’
It wasn’t just Andrea who risked exposure. With Ailaira’s current chaotic bloodline, it was debatable whether the magic would identify her as human.
If she were identified as something else, setting aside all other consequences, the reputation she had built over the years would be ruined given how much Humanity excluded Non-Human Races.
Having made a decision, Ailaira gave Andrea a look. Receiving the signal, Andrea looked back in disbelief, her eyes blinking wildly as if to confirm: ‘Are we really doing this?’
Ailaira: ‘Yes, I will handle the aftermath.’
Steeling her heart, Andrea turned toward Kuchierkan with a determined gaze and made a mysterious hand gesture. Seeing the signal, Kuchierkan’s eyes first showed confusion, then excitement, and finally settled into a manic battle intent.
In the next moment, her black dragon wings unfurled, knocking aside the Royal Guards on both sides and smashing them into the walls.
Kuchierkan’s Dragon Horns grew out, and her golden-yellow pupils filled with a violent aura. Her incredibly sharp Dragon Claw slammed into the ground, sending out a shockwave so powerful it seemed like it would destroy the entire City Hall.
The Secretary Officer chanted an incantation, summoning chains made of magical power that fell from the sky, intending to pin Kuchierkan to the ground. However, she simply waved her left hand, and the chains shattered into flecks of light.
The backlash from the broken magical construct caused the Secretary Officer to cough up blood, but he forced himself to stay conscious, gathering all his Magical Power to manifest a spear capable of piercing a dragon.
But Kuchierkan gave him no chance. Her Dragon Tail whipped through the air, vibrating so hard it created a gale. Like invisible blades, the wind shattered the Secretary Officer’s Magical Power. His body was sent flying, crashing through a dining table. He wasn’t even able to withstand a single blow from her.
“Weak! Too weak! You humans think you can frame me with this level of strength?”
Kuchierkan’s wings vibrated as she punched and kicked at the surrounding Royal Guards. During her breakout, she conveniently landed a kick on Andrea’s waist, sending her flying out of the City Hall until she disappeared at the end of the street.
Having achieved her goal, Kuchierkan beat her wings and quickly ascended, looking down at everyone from above.
“Hmph, if you want to throw mud at me, then come and catch me first!”
Before Kuchierkan could finish her sentence, her formerly aggressive figure suddenly turned into a streak of light, fleeing toward the outskirts of the City. In the air where Kuchierkan had just been, Ailaira pulled back from a kicking stance and commanded Xidi, “I’ll handle her. You stay here and clean up the mess.”
Ailaira then chased after the direction Kuchierkan had flown. Not long after, brilliant flashes of magic light exploded in the night sky outside the City, looking like fireworks to the confused residents below.
In reality, those were just spells Ailaira had cast at random to create the illusion of a fierce battle. At that moment, she was standing with Kuchierkan under a bridge, while Andrea came limping toward them from a distance. She approached Kuchierkan and nodded slightly in approval. “Hmm, that was a very good performance.”
In truth, Andrea felt like she was going crazy from the pain. Taking an unexpected kick from Kuchierkan and crashing through several walls was no joke!
Kuchierkan proudly folded her arms, brimming with confidence. “Of course. I don’t take a few humans seriously at all.”
“But Senior certainly took the acting seriously. You didn’t even use your wings to cover that distance; you literally just flew through the air from the force of the kick.”
At those words, Andrea’s face darkened with frustration. She wanted to scold her, but the words wouldn’t come out. She could only admit gloomily, “Yeah, well, it’s better to be cautious.”
