“What?! You’re my Summoner?!”
Ling Xiaoyou was stunned.
She looked at Bai Shuanglian suspiciously, as if trying to judge whether she was lying.
“That’s right! This time, your Summoner is me, Xiaoyou!”
Bai Shuanglian laughed lightly, stepping forward to get closer to Ling Xiaoyou.
But as soon as she approached, the latter immediately backed away.
Seeing this, Bai Shuanglian shook her head helplessly, but didn’t move any closer.
“You say you’re my Summoner and expect me to just believe it? Do you have any proof?”
Ling Xiaoyou snorted, crossing her arms.
That’s what she said, but in her heart, she already believed Bai Shuanglian’s words.
After all, although she had been flustered at first by Bai Shuanglian’s appearance, now that she’d calmed down, she could feel a faint connection from Bai Shuanglian.
It was the bond between Summoner and Summoned.
Though weak, it was enough for Ling Xiaoyou to tell who her Summoner was.
Because of this, Ling Xiaoyou was very puzzled.
Why would Bai Shuanglian summon her?
Logically, wasn’t a Exorcist supposed to hate this kind of ghost-summoning ritual the most?
It couldn’t be that she summoned her just for fun, right?
If that was the case, Ling Xiaoyou really would have to give Bai Shuanglian a good beating!
Even if she couldn’t win!
“Um, proof…”
Bai Shuanglian tilted her head, cupping her chest with both hands.
That fullness caught Ling Xiaoyou’s eyes for a moment, and she quickly looked away with a flushed face, only to sneak glances again unintentionally.
“If you insist on evidence, then it should be that this is my home, and besides me, there’s no one else here.”
Bai Shuanglian offered an answer that wasn’t particularly rigorous, but Ling Xiaoyou’s attention wasn’t on the evidence.
She glanced around in surprise.
“This is actually your house?! I thought you broke into someone else’s place to set up a Summoning Ritual!”
Hearing this, Bai Shuanglian raised an eyebrow, a little amused.
“This is the Society of Law now—breaking into someone’s house is a crime.”
“Besides, we Exorcists don’t steal people’s homes. If I want to summon you, of course I’ll do it at my own place.”
“Otherwise, where do you think I’d summon you?”
Ling Xiaoyou pouted, muttering softly,
“I thought you Exorcists were all homeless, either not sleeping at all or sleeping deep in the mountains or forests!”
“Who would’ve thought you people would catch up with the times and know to live in houses like Modern Humans.”
Though her voice was quiet, Bai Shuanglian was much stronger than her and heard every word.
Bai Shuanglian held her forehead helplessly.
“What you’re describing are Ancient Savages, right? In your mind, what strange creatures are we Exorcists supposed to be…?”
“Of course! A bunch of villains in weird clothes, always shouting about justice but bullying innocent Little Pen Immortals like me!”
Ling Xiaoyou placed her hands on her hips, speaking righteously.
The last part was clearly aimed at Bai Shuanglian, but Bai Shuanglian didn’t take it to heart, simply laughed softly, and moved on.
“Let’s not talk about that for now. Aren’t you curious why I summoned you, Xiaoyou?”
“I don’t want to know!”
Ling Xiaoyou shook her head decisively.
But her slightly perked ears made her words less convincing.
“Oh? Really not interested?”
In a flash, Bai Shuanglian appeared beside Ling Xiaoyou and poked her soft, delicate cheek.
“…Not interested at all!”
Bai Shuanglian’s sudden appearance startled Ling Xiaoyou, but she forced herself to act indifferent, snorting.
“I see…”
Bai Shuanglian pretended to be disappointed, turned, and slowly walked toward the coffee table where the Summoning Pen Spirit paper lay, as if preparing to break the Summoning.
“Then I’ll just have to cancel the Summoning.”
She bent down, reaching for the paper.
“Wait!”
Seeing this, Ling Xiaoyou shouted instinctively, but immediately clapped her hands over her mouth.
But the words were already out, and Ling Xiaoyou couldn’t take them back—or erase the memory from Bai Shuanglian’s mind.
Out of Ling Xiaoyou’s sight, Bai Shuanglian smiled, then quickly hid it, turning to Ling Xiaoyou with a puzzled look.
“Is there something else, Xiaoyou?”
“Ahem, I changed my mind.”
Since the words were already out, Ling Xiaoyou gave up on pretending.
She coughed lightly, looked away, and said,
“If you have something to say, just say it. I can consider helping you.”
“Maybe it’s better not to.”
Bai Shuanglian laughed inside but kept a serious face, acting like she was thinking of Ling Xiaoyou’s best interests.
“After all, Xiaoyou, you look really unwilling. Don’t force yourself because of me.”
“It’s fine! I was summoned by you, so even if I’m unwilling, I can still help you.”
Ling Xiaoyou placed her hands on her hips.
“Really, there’s no need. I would never force you, Xiaoyou.”
Bai Shuanglian said seriously.
“Stop talking nonsense!”
Ling Xiaoyou puffed out her cheeks in annoyance, unleashed her full 21-point speed, and instantly appeared next to Bai Shuanglian.
She snatched the paper from Bai Shuanglian’s hand and put it into her own Space Ring.
“Just so you know, I’m only staying because you summoned me, so don’t forget that!”
Ling Xiaoyou’s tone and expression were pure tsundere.
Bai Shuanglian almost laughed, but stopped herself to avoid getting pounded by Ling Xiaoyou’s tiny fists.
“Then…how should I repay you?”
Bai Shuanglian wrapped her arm around Ling Xiaoyou’s slender waist and whispered in her ear.
“Just stay away from me and that’s enough!”
The warm, sweet breath on her ear turned Ling Xiaoyou’s face bright red.
She shrank down, escaping Bai Shuanglian’s embrace and putting some distance between them.
“Yes, yes, yes.”
Bai Shuanglian nodded with a smile, her tone like coaxing a little girl.
“So, why did you call me here?”
Ling Xiaoyou rubbed her flushed cheeks, then asked Bai Shuanglian to distract herself.
“Well…”
Bai Shuanglian paused.
Memories from two days ago surged through her mind, replaying vividly before her eyes.
