The carriage had just set off when Irene couldn’t hold back any longer.
She scooted closer, pressing herself tightly against Lillian, her eyes shining like a hamster that had just discovered a treasure.
“Lillian, Lillian!”
“Are you really going to Miss’s room tonight? And that lap pillow, is it true too…? Also, did you see Miss’s reaction, wasn’t it suuuuper cute?”
As she spoke, Irene kept nudging Lillian with her elbow, a mischievous grin on her face.
Lillian felt Irene getting closer, and deliberately shifted to the side, putting some distance between them.
This trip wasn’t for shopping, so the interior of the carriage was spacious.
She still remembered yesterday morning, when Irene had “reported” to Eleonora.
Although nothing ended up happening, just thinking about it made Lillian’s teeth itch.
It wasn’t that she was angry about the “reporting” itself—Lillian hadn’t done anything wrong, so she didn’t mind.
The main issue was Irene’s nonsense. Hadn’t she seen what happened to Eleonora after?
Sigh…
Why is everyone around me like this—such children.
Never thinking things through.
Truly unrivaled.
Recalling Eleonora’s fragile appearance from yesterday, Lillian couldn’t help but feel helpless.
As her friend, today she had to give foolish Irene a proper lesson.
Lillian turned to look out the window, watching the scenery roll by in reverse, not saying a word.
“Huh?” Irene’s smile froze on her face. It seemed like since this morning in the dining hall, Lillian had been ignoring her.
What happened?
Unwilling to give up, Irene leaned over and poked Lillian’s arm with her finger.
“Lillian, did you fall asleep?”
Lillian didn’t respond, still gazing at the scenery outside, as if Irene were invisible.
Irene grew a little flustered. She didn’t understand why Lillian was treating her like this, so she took out the little snacks she’d prepared in her Basket and offered them to Lillian as if presenting a precious treasure.
“Lillian, I saved the tastiest candy for you… Please talk to me, won’t you?”
Lillian’s eyelashes trembled slightly, but she still ignored Irene.
Irene realized things couldn’t go on like this. Time for her ultimate weapon!
“Lillian, did you know? After Miss apologized to you that day, she rolled around her room hugging her pillow, giggling like a fool…”
Lillian’s ears twitched. It took her a moment to realize it was the time Eleonora had lost their bet.
So after I left, she was that happy?
Still, Lillian didn’t turn to look at Irene.
“And, and when you went to see Her Highness for treatment that day, Miss was distracted the whole day, thinking of you, asking every few minutes if the carriage had arrived…”
“…”
Lillian let out a heavy sigh.
In her mind, she pictured Eleonora working on paperwork in the study, pausing now and then to gaze out the window and sigh.
“Lillian? Tell me, isn’t Miss super adorable?”
“…”
Lillian still paid Irene no mind.
Seeing that all her efforts had failed, Irene finally began to panic.
Did I do something wrong?
Irene couldn’t think of anything.
Then why is she ignoring me…?
Irene felt terribly wronged.
“Lillian, did I do something wrong? Tell me, I’ll fix it…” Irene’s voice was already tinged with tears.
Huh?
No way?
I haven’t even started, and you’re already crying?
Lillian hurriedly turned to her. She never meant to make Irene cry.
Irene’s golden eyes were brimming with tears, looking utterly aggrieved.
Girls’ tears really were powerful. The moment they appeared, whoever made her cry immediately became the villain.
“You really don’t know what you did wrong?” Lillian’s heart softened. She reached out and wiped Irene’s tears.
Immediately, Irene broke into a wide smile, crying and laughing at the same time, boasting proudly and confidently, “No idea.”
Crying and laughing all at once.
You really are something, Irene.
“What did you say to Miss that morning?”
“I… I just said you slept with Her Highness and the two of you were going to have a baby?” Irene tried hard to recall what she’d done.
“Do you realize…” Lillian was about to point out Irene’s problem when she noticed Irene suddenly having a revelation.
Irene jabbed a finger at herself, her honey-colored ponytail bouncing with the motion.
Her voice brimmed with righteousness, as if she were a hero crusading against the Demon King!
“Lillian, so it was because of that! I didn’t do anything wrong!”
Irene grew more and more impassioned.
“I only reminded Miss for your own good! You sleep with Her Highness and have a baby with her, but you’re still all tangled up with Miss. How would Miss feel if she found out? You’re my good friend, and Miss treats me well, too. I don’t want you to hurt her, so it’s better if I bring this up right away!”
“And you! You two-timing scoundrel! Toying with girls’ feelings—you’re the one in the wrong!”
Before Lillian could speak, two big hats were dumped on her head.
My friend, my head feels heavy.
Lillian fell silent.
Again with the sleeping together and having babies.
Honestly.
It’s pointless explaining.
And two-timing, toying with feelings?
Me? Really?
Thinking about it, Irene assumed that since she slept with Ophelia, she was going to… have a baby with her, and built her logic from there.
Lillian let out a feeble sigh. “Irene, didn’t I tell you, girls and girls can’t—”
As if knowing what Lillian was about to say, Irene cut her off immediately.
“I’m the child of two moms’ love! Stop making excuses!”
“I… You…” Lillian’s words stuck in her throat. “Ugh… Sigh…”
Wow, amazing, my friend, just amazing.
Lillian gave up.
Her Biology Book burned fiercely in her mind, until nothing was left but ashes.
Irene really just incinerated the books, didn’t she?
In this world where magic and Gods exist, maybe two girls having a baby isn’t so impossible after all.
And in Irene’s view, she herself was living proof.
Nothing Lillian could say would matter now.
“Actually, there’s nothing between me and Lia…”
Irene curled her lips in a mocking smile, wearing an expression that said, “I knew it.”
“Hmph, Lillian, you’re calling Her Highness ‘Lia’ now.”
Lillian raised both hands and performed the Crown Army Salute.
“I surrender, I surrender.” Lillian slumped weakly against the carriage wall, her soul all but drained. “I was wrong, I’m a two-timing scoundrel, a villain toying with girls’ feelings, okay?”
“Oh…” Irene looked at Lillian, suddenly feeling a little embarrassed.
Maybe I was too harsh with my words. Lillian is my friend, after all—wouldn’t saying that hurt her feelings?
So, Irene dug out her very favorite candy from a crack in the Basket and carefully handed it to Lillian.
“As long as you know you’re wrong, here’s the tastiest candy. Just don’t let Miss down ever again, okay…”
Seeing how different this “tastiest candy” was from the last “tastiest candy,” Lillian couldn’t help but laugh in exasperation.
