“Vacation?”
Mo Qingqing had just stepped through the door and heard Su Yun’s timid words. She immediately laughed out of pure frustration.
A cold, sharp arc curved at the corners of her lips, but the smile did not reach her eyes. Her deep red eyes were glazed with a thin layer of frost, and the corners of her eyes turned upward slightly. The atmospheric pressure around her suddenly plummeted, carrying an intimidating force that seemed to freeze the very air.
“In other words, you haven’t learned a single real skill, yet you’re taking such a long vacation. Is that it?”
Her tone was cold and thin, laced with reprimand and impatience. Every word made Su Yun’s little heart pound. Clearly, she was utterly dissatisfied with the academy’s arrangement.
“Uh… y-yes…”
Su Yun did not dare argue. He hurriedly lowered his small head, his furry little ears pressed tight against his scalp. His fluffy, large tail curled obediently against his side, and his fingertips gripped the hem of his clothes so hard his knuckles turned white. His voice was so weak it was barely audible, for fear of further provoking the woman before him.
“…Actually, that’s fine too.”
Mo Qingqing remained silent for a long moment, her gaze drifting toward the sunset deepening outside the window. The previous harshness gradually faded, and a layer of inexplicable confusion spread across her beautiful brow.
Ever since she entered the academy for further study, she always felt like her head was a mess. Especially after she had recently advanced to Level 46, she was getting closer and closer to that vital Level 50 threshold. Once she truly reached Level 50, she had to finalize the ultimate direction of her primary Law. One step would determine her whole life; there would be no room for regret.
She had insisted on choosing the Life Law because she was obsessed with the idea that a complete Life Law must be the most powerful existence in the world—controlling life and death, commanding all things, and looking down on all living beings. But after undergoing the careful teaching of the academy’s veteran high-level Wizards and browsing countless dust-covered ancient texts, she realized late that the Life Law was strangely eerie at its core.
Since the first Wizard and Witch awakened in this world, over several thousand years had passed. In this vast world, where talented people emerged in succession, no one had been able to go far on the path of the Life Law. This primordial Law, which was the earliest to be studied and explored by the world, had never produced a single Dominator-level powerhouse in thousands of years.
Such an inconceivable situation caused top-tier mages to offer various opinions, which boiled down to two speculations. Either the Life Law itself possessed its own consciousness and strictly selected its successors—if it didn’t like you, you couldn’t even touch it—or the Law had been incomplete since its birth, making it impossible to reach the peak.
Only these two theories could explain why the Magical Beasts of this world were so absurdly abstract. The things swimming in the sea were not fish, shrimp, crabs, or shellfish. Instead, they were dumpling Magical Beasts that floated in delicious broth while swimming, their bellies stuffed with fragrant fillings that burst with flavor in one bite. There were also pizza Magical Beasts with crispy edges, slowly stretching their fillings with stringy cheese in the water.
The things flying in the sky were even more ridiculous. Crispy oil cake Magical Beasts. Round watermelon Magical Beasts… This kind of scenery would be mind-blowing in any other world. But here, it was a natural ecosystem that had existed since the birth of the world. As a result, no one found it strange.
Between the two speculations, Mo Qingqing leaned toward the former in her heart. This was because Su Yun was the most vivid proof.
First of all, the power of Laws would never attach itself to a person out of thin air. Even if someone was on the brink of death, releasing world-shaking mental power and the will to survive in their final moments, it was absolutely impossible for them to suddenly strengthen their own Law or master a brand-new one out of nowhere. The comprehension of a Law was either the result of accumulation and refinement over many years or a flash of divine insight. Low-level mages could not even touch the edges.
But Su Yun was different. He was just a low-level mage, yet he was surrounded by a wisp of the purest Life Law aura. Although it was as weak as a firefly, it was a genuine Law power. It was something a normal middle-level mage could never contend with.
The other Su Yun was even more terrifying to the extreme. The life barrier that the other person propped up around his body was indestructible. Her light cannon, which carried a bit of Law aura, had not even budged it when it hit; it had not even triggered a ripple. Such powerful defense could only be achieved by someone who had mastered a certain portion of the Life Law’s source.
Therefore, Mo Qingqing was certain. The Life Law might truly have its own consciousness, and Su Yun was its carefully chosen successor.
And the recognition of this Law source could not be copied through a contract. The contract she had established with Su Yun was merely based on another cold Law. That Law had no feelings or consciousness; it was just an ethereal, binding rule. It was not even as good as a dead object, so how could it restrain the Life Law, which possessed independent consciousness and was vivid and agile?
In other words, if her guess was correct, then her desire to compete with Su Yun for the position of the Life Law Dominator was simply a pipe dream. Even if she hardened her heart and killed Su Yun, the Life Law would never turn to favor her. It would only sever its connection with Su Yun and re-enter the world to find the next compatible successor. She was, after all, just an irrelevant outsider.
She had also gone to seek advice from Lin Mo, but the woman had only said flippantly, “Don’t be in a hurry. Go to school for a few more days and wait until you break through to Level 49. It’s useless to be anxious about this kind of thing; it might even backfire.”
But the anxiety in Mo Qingqing’s heart had not diminished at all. If not for her hair growth spells, she felt she would be nearly bald by now. Perhaps taking a few more classes and listening to the insights of those veteran mages would allow her to find her own true path.
After thinking for a moment, she felt a bit of a headache and spoke indifferently.
“Give me a massage.”
After saying that, she ignored Su Yun’s gaze, raised her hand to shed her mage robe, and lay face down in the center of the soft, brocade bed. Her lines were smooth and elegant, her back slightly tensed, and her deep purple hair spread casually on both sides, covering most of her exquisite face.
“Yes…” Su Yun answered in a low voice.
His heart immediately began to drum. He stood in place, at a loss, his fingertips nervously twisting the fabric of his clothes into layer upon layer of wrinkles. He was afraid that if he went forward while wearing clothes, Mo Qingqing would find him to be in the way. But if he stripped, he was afraid of piquing Mo Qingqing’s appetite.
After several moments of hesitation, Su Yun finally bit his thin lip lightly, carefully shed his clothes, and stood by the bed. That big, fluffy tail was held stick-straight. The tips of his ears were also tinged with a faint red. It was not because he was shy; it was pure tension.
To avoid catching Mo Qingqing’s attention as much as possible, he tried his best to stay out of her line of sight, not daring to let his body be exposed to her gaze. He only reached out his soft, warm hands and gently placed them on Mo Qingqing’s slightly cool shoulders.
He kept his strength extremely light and gentle, afraid of hurting her, yet also afraid that the pressure would not be enough to achieve the desired effect. His fingertips were so tense they turned white. He held his breath and focused, kneading with extreme care, even letting his breathing become light and slow.
To his surprise, after only massaging for a short while, Mo Qingqing spoke in a low voice. However, her tone no longer carried the urgency from the beginning. It even held a hint of laziness.
“Sit on top of me. Massaging like this while standing on your tip-toes is still missing something.”
“Eh?” ‘Was she serious?’
