Sitting on the chair, feeling the touch above her head, Lu Weizhu remained silent, staring down at her knees.
“Sorry, Yun-jie, sorry, Wei Yu, for making you worry.”
Lu Weizhu closed her eyes, her shoulders trembling slightly.
Her self-righteous actions brought her no benefits or special treatment from Bai Lu, only causing the people she cared about to feel sadness because of her.
Lu Weizhu had always thought herself foolish beyond reason, and in this moment, that feeling became even clearer.
Listening to the girl’s apology, Bai Yun was silent, unwilling to blame the girl in front of her.
The urge to express her true feelings seemed to have vanished somewhere.
Bai Yun knelt down and took hold of Lu Weizhu’s left hand.
“No need to apologize. Just don’t hurt yourself again next time.”
“Yun-jie, I’m really sorry for causing you so much trouble. This time, because of me, you haven’t been able to work for so long.”
Raising her head, tears welled up in Lu Weizhu’s pale blue eyes.
It wasn’t an act; Lu Weizhu was truly sorry.
Maybe resigning was the better choice for her—continuing would only drag Bai Yun down.
“……”
Lu Weizhu opened her mouth, wanting to tell Bai Yun to fire her, to admit she was unfit for a job she loved.
But the words wouldn’t come out.
Even knowing that staying on would only be a burden, Lu Weizhu couldn’t say it.
She didn’t want to let go.
Ah…so she wasn’t just foolish—she was selfish too…
She closed her eyes once more.
“… What’s wrong with me?”
“Don’t fire me…”
In the end, Lu Weizhu chose the relatively selfish path; she couldn’t bring herself to ask Bai Yun to dismiss this burden.
“…Hm? No, I won’t fire you.”
Bai Yun was momentarily stunned, then smiled helplessly.
She continued stroking the girl’s head.
The girl in front of her looked like a large white Samoyed waiting to be comforted by its owner.
Hmm…this might sound rude, but Bai Yun really felt that way right now.
Her memories drifted away bit by bit, recalling a Samoyed with blue eyes her family had when she was young—a gift her mother brought back from a business trip.
She had loved that Samoyed dearly.
Sadly, it died of illness several years ago.
Snapping back to the present, Bai Yun shook her head as she looked at the white-haired girl with pale blue eyes.
“How could I ever fire you?”
She still hadn’t had the chance to confess her feelings, so how could she possibly send her away?
Reaching out, she wiped the tears from Lu Weizhu’s face.
The warm tears left dampness on the back of her hand.
Bai Yun felt a bit dazed.
Such an intimate gesture—should she feel nervous?
Probably, but she didn’t.
She only wanted to wipe away the tears, to soothe the unhappy expression on the girl’s face, to see her smile.
Bai Yun thought she was quite strange.
Beside them, Lu Weiyu quietly watched the two interact, her hands clutching the bedsheet.
Her heart pounded loudly, her breath quickened.
Sharing her sister’s attention with someone else was very difficult for Lu Weiyu.
Even though she had made up her mind in advance, actually seeing Lu Weizhu being close to someone else still hurt.
Lu Weiyu turned her head, staring at the white walls of the ward.
She didn’t want to share, but she had to.
Lu Weiyu wanted to monopolize her sister’s attention, but she hoped more for Lu Weizhu’s happiness.
Clearly, Lu Weiyu only made her sister exhausted.
She had observed Bai Yun carefully and was sure she was a good person—probably wouldn’t hurt Lu Weizhu—and she was certain Bai Yun liked her sister.
At the same time, she noticed Lu Weizhu cared about Bai Yun.
After much thought, she decided to help Bai Yun pursue Lu Weizhu.
She expected it would hurt, but she didn’t know it would hurt this much…
Lu Weiyu covered her chest.
“Don’t worry, I won’t fire you, Wei Zhu. Don’t overthink it, just rest well, okay?”
Bai Yun smiled gently.
Sitting in the chair, Lu Weizhu said nothing, quietly listening to Bai Yun’s soothing voice, soft and flowing like water, as if coaxing a child.
With her head being stroked, Lu Weizhu’s face warmed.
She felt some embarrassment.
But alongside the shame, there was a sense of relief.
“Mm…”
Lu Weizhu nodded.
Leaning back in the chair, Lu Weizhu met Bai Yun’s gaze.
“Yun-jie, you should rest now. It’s already very late.”
She hesitated for a long time, unable to figure out what she really wanted to say.
Maybe she just wanted to thank her, but would a hollow thanks mean anything?
No.
“…AKA…”
Bai Yun stood up, frozen for a moment.
She pulled out her phone from her bag and glanced at the time.
Unconsciously, it was already past one in the morning.
“Ahem, well, I should go now. You remember to rest well, okay? Don’t cook for yourself while your hand’s injured.”
Clearing her throat twice, she slipped her hand into her pocket and turned to leave the ward.
Her mind felt blank.
After closing the door behind her, she suddenly realized something.
“Did I forget something?”
Frowning, Bai Yun rubbed her head.
She kept walking, but when she left the hospital, her steps suddenly stopped.
“I think I forgot to tell her I like her!? Tsk…”
Somewhat annoyed, Bai Yun held her head, feeling a headache coming on.
“Ahh!”
She had finally gathered the courage to confess, but seeing Lu Weizhu injured made her throw everything else aside.
“Sigh…whatever, I’ll wait for the next chance.”
Talking to herself, Bai Yun sighed.
At this point, she definitely couldn’t run back and bother her again.
“Hmm…though, I can’t say if it’s good luck or bad luck.”
Maybe it’s still too soon to confess now?
If she got rejected, there might never be another chance.
It wasn’t all regret; Bai Yun felt a bit relieved too.
After Bai Yun left, the ward fell silent.
Lu Weizhu and Lu Weiyu looked at each other without a word.
“Sis.”
After a few minutes, Lu Weiyu finally spoke.
“Hmm…go ahead and scold me if you want.”
Lu Weizhu turned to look at her sister, knowing Lu Weiyu was angry because she hated seeing her hurt.
“…Idiot.”
Lu Weiyu couldn’t say anything harsher than that.
“Idiot, idiot, idiot, idiot.”
Lu Weiyu repeated it, and Lu Weizhu could only listen quietly, unable to refute.
“What exactly happened to your hand?”
Lu Weiyu stood up.
“…Dislocated wrist, plus a minor bone fracture.”
Looking into Lu Weiyu’s eyes, Lu Weizhu shrank her neck.
She had lied too much already and didn’t want to deceive her sister again.
She told her the truth.
“Don’t worry, it’s nothing serious. It’ll heal soon.”
Lu Weizhu reassured the girl before her.
“…Idiot, I didn’t know you had friends worth personally delivering gifts to.”
Lu Weiyu curled her lips.
Though harsh, it was the truth.
Lu Weizhu’s eyes darkened; she really didn’t have such friends.
Well…at least not for some time.
“……”
Taking a deep breath, Lu Weiyu hugged Lu Weizhu.
“Idiot sister…I know you’re hiding some things from me. I won’t ask, but can you please take better care of yourself? Seeing you hurt really hurts me…”
Holding Lu Weizhu’s neck tightly, Lu Weiyu closed her eyes.
Embracing her sister, the pain of sharing her attention with someone else eased somewhat.
She hugged Lu Weizhu tightly.
