“Damn it!”
Lewis realized this and immediately said with a sense of foreboding.
“The Prince is in danger!”
Long ago, an assassin named Red Sparrow had accepted a commission to assassinate the Prince. The assassination in Hail City last time had undoubtedly failed. This time, a new assassin might have set their sights on Anderson. Eleanor was precisely that hidden assassin. Even the so-called Eye of Wite was just a diversionary trick!
What’s worse, Anderson had no idea, while Eleanor could strike at any moment. Even though the Prince was strong, it was easy to dodge an open attack but hard to guard against a hidden one. No one knew what tricks she had up her sleeve.
Eager to protect his lord, Lewis turned immediately to leave, but found a figure in black standing at the doorway.
“Heh, Knight. Looks like you’ve learned something you shouldn’t have.”
“An assassin of the Fengting Association… the Contact.”
Seeing the other’s attire, Lewis immediately understood their identity. On guard, he drew his knight sword and said calmly.
“So Eleanor really is the assassin after all.”
“Sometimes…” the Contact coldly laughed, then pulled out an axe from behind and said, “Knowing too much isn’t a good thing. Die here.”
After saying that, the Contact’s figure vanished instantly. It wasn’t teleportation; she simply charged toward Lewis at a speed ordinary people couldn’t track.
Assassins weren’t good at frontal combat, but that was for other assassins. That statement meant nothing to the Contact. After all, what assassin would sneak in carrying a giant axe like she did?
Facing that bloodstained giant axe, Lewis didn’t dare meet it head-on and could only dodge to the side.
Seeing that he couldn’t extricate himself anytime soon, he took out the communication magic array and tried to call Anderson. Unfortunately, the Contact wouldn’t give him that chance. After the axe hit the ground with a thunderous sound, it didn’t stop at all, sweeping straight toward Lewis’s position.
Sparks from the friction between the axe blade and the ground had already ignited nearby combustibles. The faint light from the flames illuminated the face hidden beneath the hood.
Lewis was stunned for a moment after seeing the other’s face.
“A woman?”
But while he was stunned, the Contact didn’t stand on ceremony. The giant axe whirled again, carrying a suffocating pressure, and cleaved directly toward Lewis’s head.
“Damn it!”
Lewis immediately snapped back to reality. He made a clumsy roll, dodging the attack.
But before he could stand, the Contact pursued again. Though the axe looked so bulky, in this young girl’s hands, it was swung with fierce momentum. An ordinary person couldn’t even get half a step close. Before Lewis could get up, her attacks pursued like a storm. Lewis could only keep dodging.
In just that short time, the already messy room was now nearly in ruins.
‘So strong…’
After the Contact’s attacks stopped, Lewis quickly steadied himself, panting heavily. He had to take a moment to compose himself as he spoke to the girl hidden beneath the hood.
“This thing must be pretty heavy for you, right?”
Lewis could certainly tell that after a series of attacks failing to hit him, the assassin’s breathing seemed a bit ragged. She was tired, but he was about the same. Dodging that series of attacks was no different from crawling back from death’s door. After the adrenaline wore off, Lewis was also extremely exhausted.
“Killing you is enough.”
A clear, cold female voice came from under the hood. Since Lewis had already seen through her identity, the Contact no longer bothered to pretend. But after dropping the act, the killing intent she emanated became even more chilling.
For an assassin, anyone who discovered their identity should go to hell. Only the dead wouldn’t leak information. So for the Contact, Winona, Lewis was already marked as good as dead. If before she might have let him go, now that was out of the question.
“You look young, but you sure talk big.”
Lewis didn’t stand on ceremony with the Contact either, pointing his knight sword at her.
“Now it’s my turn to counterattack, Miss Assassin…”
“Sister Winona!”
Just as the two were locked in a standoff, with battle ready to erupt at any moment, a girl who looked about sixteen or seventeen rushed in and said, “It’s bad! A group of people in black took George away!”
“…”
“…”
Lewis was silent. He hadn’t expected a young child to appear at such a critical moment. And it seemed she knew the assassin in front of him. ‘Come to think of it… her name was Winona. Pretty name.’
As for Winona, after hearing the girl’s words, she didn’t speak. Instead, she put away the giant axe, hoisted the girl onto her shoulder, and ran off without looking back. It seemed she was going after the child named George.
After she left, Lewis breathed a sigh of relief. Although the fight was winnable, the pressure from facing that giant axe-wielding girl was just too overwhelming. Lewis couldn’t guarantee victory, and even if he won, he’d probably be severely injured. She was strong—no doubt about it.
“Damn! I almost forgot the real issue!”
Before Lewis could dwell on it long, he suddenly remembered something and quickly took out the communication magic array to call Anderson.
“Your Highness! Don’t trust Eleanor! Don’t trust Eleanor! She’s an assassin!”
But the call got no response at all, only a static “zzz” noise. And no matter who Lewis tried to call, it was the same result.
“Signal interference… damn it!”
Frantically, Lewis hurried toward the Temple Knights.
***
Meanwhile, inside the Shrine, Eleanor’s baptism ceremony was already more than half over. After a series of oaths, tests, prayers, and other messy steps, they finally reached the baptism step.
Anderson had accompanied her through most of the process, but he really couldn’t accompany her for the baptism. After all, that required undressing and entering the Holy Spring to receive the God’s blessing. In the case of nakedness, it wasn’t suitable for him to enter the room.
So Anderson said to the two female priestesses of the Shrine beside him.
“I’ll leave the baptism to you.”
“No problem, Lord Judgment Executor. Please wait patiently.”
After saying that, the two priestesses led Eleanor into the Holy Spring room. It was called a Holy Spring, but to Eleanor, it looked just like a hot spring.
“Sister Eleanor, please remove your clothes and enter the Holy Spring…”
“Thump thump!”
Before the two priestesses could finish speaking, Eleanor knocked them out with a punch each.
