Boom——
The moment Mary plunged the Godslayer weapon into Green’s heart, he knew he was doomed.
“At least it wasn’t for nothing, after all that preparation…”
Blood trickled from the corner of his lips. Green felt as if his organs were being boiled alive, the heat threatening to cook him through.
It hurts, it hurts, it hurts!
Damn it, didn’t I already take poison to numb all five senses?
The agony of the flesh was one thing, but even his soul and spirit were suffering a deep torment.
It wasn’t just simple pain on a sensory level—the more important thing was, on the level of consciousness, the existence known as “Green” was about to be wiped out.
Green.
The name he had used for so many years, that carried all the experiences of his life, was about to disappear completely, leaving not the faintest trace behind.
Whether it was good or bad, love or hatred, after this strike, it would all lose meaning.
Oblivion would be his destination.
“So be it.”
As his awareness faded into that ancient, eternal silence, merging with the void, Green whispered softly, “In the end, this Green was just a false existence from a simulated life. Now it’s just…”
“Walking the same path once more.”
For some reason, at the very instant Green sighed out these words, the heavy weight that had threatened to crush him dissipated without a trace.
Shoo, shoo, shoo.
Endless holy light poured into his body.
The barrier that had separated him from the holy light due to Pollution seemed to collapse completely, thanks to both the arrival of death and the absolute erasure of the Godslayer weapon.
The holy light, gathering madly around Green, washed through his body and soul.
All the parts of him once twisted and corroded by Pollution now seemed, in that moment, to have achieved some kind of transcendence.
Those painful, negative forces that represented every kind of sin melted away under the blazing sun like snow, vanishing into vapor in an instant.
From the emptiness, a scene began to take shape before his eyes.
Light.
“Didn’t I get erased? Why have all my senses returned?”
Green blinked in confusion, and found that his arms—just moments ago heavy with rot and decay—were now clear and crystal-like, as if they were made of flawless glass, reflecting a familiar face in the dazzling holy light.
His own.
Green, and yet more than just Green…
In that instant, Green suddenly understood something, emerging from the intense holy radiance flowing through him.
“That’s right. The me right now is already more than just Green.”
He patted his chest, deep in thought.
“Kamdo, God of Justice.”
Whispers of prayer and fervent, heartfelt pleas rang in his ears.
Faith.
Buzz——
“Adventurer has died. Settling the rewards for this simulated life…”
“Current mission completion progress: 100%”
“Mission 1: As a lord, keep expanding and building your territory. The wealthier your people and the larger your lands at the end of the simulated life, the higher the reward.”
“In this simulation, you successfully unified the Wastelands and nearly half the human world. Through magitek development and System Reform, your people’s standard of living skyrocketed.”
“Mission 2: Protect the heretic witch and assist her research. The greater her strength and the richer her research results at the end, the higher the reward.”
“You perfectly protected the heretic witch, Sophie. Even when those who coveted her power were beings capable of plunging the world into an endless winter—like the Doomsday Witch—or even greater terrors from beyond the Star Realm, you never faltered.”
“You guided Sophie in countless fields of research, including but not limited to magitek and the class-level system, helping her perfect many paths and earn the title of Demon Lord.”
“Reward calculation in progress…”
“This simulated life has ended. Would you like to enter Observer Mode to watch the witch Sophie’s future development?”
“Sophie…”
Green supposed he ought to feel a bit melancholy.
After all, even if it was just a simulated life, they had been close lovers for many years.
But—
“But why is there not even the slightest ripple in my heart?”
Green scratched his head in confusion.
“Could it be?” Noticing the steadily rising power within himself and the ever-increasing awareness, and combining that with the constant prayers echoing in his ears, Green made a reasonable guess.
“Did I really become a god?”
Kamdo, God of Justice.
A god, by nature, should have no emotions.
Or so it is said.
Buzz buzz!
Looking up, Green realized his awareness was rising to another dimension.
A holy, grand palace shimmered before him. The very weapon that had once slain him now hung high above the palace, radiating sacred light.
All he had to do was grasp that sword, and he would become a true deity.
Green reached out, ready to touch it.
Boom!!
A violent tremor interrupted him.
What was that?
Narrowing his eyes, Green instantly sensed that, in this higher-dimensional space, there were a few other glowing stars.
An ancient tree was shaking its trunk as if to greet him.
The World Tree of the Elves?
And the God of Light?
As if realizing something, Green quickly turned to look at another radiant fireball glowing like the noonday sun beside him.
No, that’s not it.
Green’s pupils contracted.
He already possessed a Divine Spark, and was only a step away from ascending to godhood, but at the very moment he saw that sacred fireball, fear welled up inside him.
But gods shouldn’t feel emotion.
He, whose divinity outweighed his humanity, shouldn’t feel fear.
Because of Pollution.
“The source of Pollution has already devoured the God of Light.” Green took a deep breath. “The Doomsday Witch’s plan is to use this fireball—which looks holy but is actually corrupted—to draw people’s Faith, twisting the world’s laws to accommodate the source of Pollution…”
No.
He had to stop it!
At that thought, Green didn’t hesitate for a second. He turned from the palace and charged toward the fireball that was still spewing endless black gas.
“Warning!”
The Adventurer’s Log flashed in his mind.
“Unknown source of Pollution detected. If the adventurer intervenes in reality using Observer Mode, existing rewards may be reduced.”
Who cares!!!
Green had no intention of choosing otherwise.
He threw in every ounce of his strength, even the Divine Spark that theoretically could grant him supreme power and make him an object of endless praise.
Boom——
The instant Green touched the source of Pollution, poised to engulf the world—
The world froze.
Then, a beam of elongated white light.
Buzz buzz buzz!
“You stopped the Blood Moon, sacrificing your Divine Spark in the process.”
“Kamdo, God of Justice, has fallen.”
“Calculating rewards.”
Thud.
A wave of weakness washed over him.
Green struggled to his feet and found himself in a familiar place.
A warm fireplace, a cozy armchair, stacks of parchment.
The study.
“Doll.” A sweet, bell-like voice roused Green.
“Whose doll is this? Why… why do I feel like it’s so important, but can’t remember at all?”
Thud.
A troubled figure paced restlessly around the study.
“Sophie…” Green turned his head away, feeling a little guilty—then remembered, in Observer Mode, the other party couldn’t sense his presence.
“I’m sorry.” Seeing Sophie so torn and distressed over the doll and diary, Green’s eyes were full of apology.
“Sophie.”
Perhaps because his Divine Spark was gone, Green’s humanity now overwhelmed his divinity. Uncontrollably, he reached out.
He shouldn’t be able to touch her…
But still, he reached.
He softly whispered into Sophie’s ear, “Forget me.”
This is enough.
Let this simulated life end with a perfect closing line.
The curtain ought to fall on this drama.
It was beautiful.
“Thank you for walking this long road with me.”
The moment he touched Sophie, all the gloom and pain in Green’s heart melted away.
Boom——
The six-pointed star of Life’s Blessing flashed wildly.
“Green?” Sophie’s eyes went wide, and crystal-clear scenes rushed into her mind: every hardship and pain a certain someone had suffered, all replaying vividly in her head.
“No, don’t go, Green!”
Sophie cried out in pain.
With Green’s consciousness already gone, only the ageless witch Sophie was left in helpless confusion, just like when her grandmother died and she was hunted by the Village, lost and afraid.
“The rewards for this simulated life have been fully calculated!”
“Rewards granted:
- This simulated life’s adventurer class levels: Paladin Tier 9 (equivalent to level 90 Paladin), Mage Tier 9 (equivalent to level 90 Mage).
- Godslayer Weapon [Forgotten Hero]: Once a legendary weapon, having been reforged countless times by magitek, forbidden magic, and blessed by holy light, this weapon has now evolved into a quasi-artifact.
And the moment it truly pierced the heart of a true god and was stained with divine blood, it transcended the level of artifacts to become a true Godslayer weapon.
- Soul Curse Healing (2/3)”
“Special Reward: You are but one step away from godhood. Though you failed to ascend for certain reasons, under special conditions you may trigger Candidate (Justice God) form.”
Whoosh!
A flash of white light.
Green had returned.
Back in reality—in the Adventurer’s Guild suite in Raven Town—Green blinked dazedly, as if lifetimes had passed.
Chirp, chirp, chirp!
A few mischievous birds outside the window chirped noisily on the branches.
It seemed as though nothing had changed.
But…
Something was different.
Thump thump thump.
He felt his heart pounding in his chest.
Green stood up, bewildered, feeling an inexhaustible power inside him.
Well, that was certainly the case.
Dual legendary classes.
“The simulated life’s rewards are way too generous, aren’t they?” Green couldn’t help but grumble. “But if I hadn’t used the Divine Spark to stop the source of Pollution… tsk, could I really have become a god in the real world?”
Green’s eyelid twitched.
Thump thump.
As he was lost in thought, someone knocked at the door.
“Miss Betty?” Green called out.
“Mr. Green, the Adventurer’s Guild Examiner is here.”
Creak——
The door opened and Miss Betty peeked in. “Are you ready for your assessment?”
“All right.”
Having now mastered endless, boundless knowledge, Green was full of confidence.
