Sefina and Flovi didn’t pause for a moment after dealing with the gate guards.
They immediately sprinted deeper along the dark passage.
Sefina felt the advantage brought by this “Holmes” body—
Long, slender legs striding swiftly and powerfully, the wind trailing behind her steps, far more exhilarating than her original self, who stood barely 1.5 meters tall.
A faint trace of envy flickered in her heart once again. If only she had been this tall from the start…
Ah, no more thinking about that. Focus on the present.
They hadn’t run far when three or four figures in Black Robes, each holding a staff, suddenly appeared at a corner up ahead.
They were obviously either attracted by the noise at the gate or were on routine patrol.
Both sides froze in surprise at the sudden encounter.
Sefina reacted swiftly, already slowing down mid-run, her hands weaving intricate patterns in front of her.
Complex Magic Circuit Patterns instantly began to take shape, powerful magical energy rippling and converging.
She planned to clear the area quickly with a Fifth-Tier area spell!
“Invaders! Stop her spellcasting!” the Black Robe leader shouted harshly.
The two front guards immediately raised their staves, attempting to conjure quick low-tier spells like Fire Arrows or the Ice Spike Technique.
Though low-tier spells had limited power, their simple runes allowed for rapid release—enough to disrupt or even interrupt the preparation of high-level magic.
However, the moment their staves emitted a faint glow—
A black-and-white figure flashed past Sefina’s side like a ghost, moving so fast that only a blur was left on the retina!
It was Flovi!
She had somehow already closed in on the combatants, her sword at her waist drawn with a sharp “clang!” The blade was not metallic in color but radiated a scorching red magical light, like flowing molten lava.
The foremost Black Robe only caught a flash of light before a sharp pain shot through his wrist—his staff, along with his hand, was cleanly severed at the wrist!
He didn’t even see how the sword had struck.
Flovi’s movements were fluid and graceful; after severing one wrist, she didn’t hesitate.
Spinning like a dancer, a fierce side kick landed hard on another’s abdomen.
That man was hit like a boulder, letting out a muffled grunt as his body uncontrollably flew backward, crashing heavily into his comrades who were still struggling to concentrate on their magic.
Chaos.
“Ugh ah—!” The two who were struck lost their concentration instantly, their incantations broken.
The sting of Spell Backlash caused their blood to surge violently, and their formation collapsed.
Flovi used the momentum from her spin to nimbly leap backward, landing just out of reach.
At that very moment, Sefina’s magic was complete!
A Fifth-Tier Fire Magic, Crimson Flame Storm.
The surging waves of fire roared like a furious beast, instantly engulfing the narrow passage ahead.
The Black Robes who had just been heavily wounded and hadn’t yet recovered could barely let out half a scream before being charred to ash by the intense heat, even burning away the foulness in the air.
As the magic dissipated, only scorched marks and the pungent smell of burnt flesh remained in the corridor.
Sefina and Flovi exchanged a glance—no words needed—just a knowing nod, and they pressed onward.
This was just a warm-up; the real resistance was surely still ahead.
Sure enough, not far ahead at the wide corridor leading to the Main Laboratory, a hulking man with a grotesque scar across his face blocked their path.
He was flanked by about seven or eight combatants, all clearly on high alert after receiving the alarm.
Sefina’s eyes sharpened without hesitation.
Before the enemy could fully form a battle line, her right hand was already raised, and her pistol fired again!
“Bang—!”
The bullet whistled through the air, aiming straight for the scarred man’s forehead!
It missed.
Although rough in appearance, Ander was an experienced fighter with keen vigilance.
At the very moment Sefina raised her hand, though unaware of the weapon, his instincts screamed danger.
He roared and slammed his staff down:
Rock Wall!
A thick earthen wall suddenly sprang up before him!
“Pff!” The bullet embedded deeply into the earth, failing to penetrate.
Ander’s heart jumped—this strange weapon’s piercing power was formidable!
Without this reflexive defense, the consequences would have been disastrous.
But this brief defense gave Flovi the perfect opportunity!
The moment the wall rose, Flovi shot forward like an arrow, her target the others beside Ander!
She knew well that to deal with a squad like this, she had to clip their wings first.
“Stop her!” Ander bellowed.
Two Black Robe mages immediately brandished their staves, attempting to cast Entangling Thorns to restrain Flovi’s movements.
However, Flovi’s magic sword, Red Lotus, suddenly blazed with even more dazzling crimson light.
Her wrist flicked lightly, and a scorching arc of sword energy swept out, not only incinerating the newly sprouted magical thorns on the ground but continuing its momentum to slash toward the two mages!
“What?!”
The two were startled, their hastily raised Magic Shields wavering violently upon contact with the sword energy, nearly shattering!
Their understanding of longswords was limited to ordinary iron weapons—they had never seen a sword capable of condensing magical power and unleashing it from a distance in such a manner.
This sword was bizarre!
Yet this was precisely one of the traits of Red Lotus, the magical sword custom-made by Sefina for Flovi.
The intricate Magic Circuit Patterns engraved in the blade efficiently convert the wielder’s magic into slashes with specific attributes.
The attack range can also be extended to some degree depending on the amount of magic infused.
Naturally, the power correlates directly with the wielder’s magical strength.
This world was purely a magical realm—there was no such thing as a swordsman profession.
Therefore, Flovi was something of an “oddity” among mages.
Though her magical power was high and her physical attributes excellent—she was a born swordswoman.
But she always struggled to understand complicated spell formulas, like a humanities student failing to grasp a science student’s equations.
So she rarely used magic directly. Back at the local Magic Academy, Flovi had been almost at the bottom of her class.
But Sefina discovered her unique potential—a high magic capacity coupled with natural combat aptitude.
Hence, she entrusted Flovi with wielding Red Lotus, and the results were astonishing.
Taking advantage of the enemies’ disarray caused by Flovi’s aggressive advance and strange sword techniques, Sefina fired her pistol with one hand while guiding magic with the other.
“Bang—!” Another shot rang out, precisely hitting a Black Robe aiming to flank Flovi, knocking the staff from his hand.
Simultaneously, Sefina’s left hand flicked her staff, instantly firing a Fire Arrow that blasted toward another enemy chanting an attack spell, interrupting the casting.
Meanwhile, Flovi weaved through the crowd, her movements unpredictable and strange.
The swordlight was like a red serpent, each strike accompanied by a lethal heat wave.
Her attacks were either fatal blows or highly effective at crippling the enemy’s combat abilities—severing the hand gripping the staff, slicing through magical nodes being formed, or forcing them to dodge with the sword’s extended range of energy, breaking their formations.
“Damn it! What kind of monster is this maid?!”
“My staff!”
“Watch out for her sword! It can attack from afar!”
“That white-haired woman is disrupting us!”
What had started as a calm encirclement by Ander’s forces quickly descended into chaotic defense and mounting casualties.
Their proud magical coordination was shattered by Sefina’s precise interference and Flovi’s relentless close-quarters assault.
Sefina’s firearms and rapid magic shots prevented them from chanting spells in peace, while Flovi’s elusive magical sword, capable of both close and ranged attacks, left them defenseless.
They barely blocked one slash before the searing sword energy attacked from another angle.
Screams, magical explosions, and the whistling of blades filled the passage.
Flashes of firelight flickered as magical turbulence spread wildly.
In just a minute or two, most of Ander’s fighters had fallen, either dead or wounded and out of the fight.
Their faces no longer held fierce determination, only fear and disbelief.
These two women worked in perfect harmony, their strength far beyond expectations!
In the end, when Flovi swept the last resisting foe’s staff aside and finished him off, the only enemy still standing in the corridor was the scar-faced man leaning against the cold wall—
Ander.
He gripped his staff tightly, cold sweat dripping from his temple, staring at the two women with a heart full of shock and terror.
Who exactly were these invaders?!
