“Who is she?”
The moment Vyea laid eyes on the girl in the black dress, this question immediately surfaced in her mind.
The Goblin Horde that had just ravaged the city had only just been quelled, and as the dark currents beneath the world began to churn anew, someone appeared on the battlefield, dressed flamboyantly, drifting in like a little ghost, drawing attention effortlessly.
Would someone without power do such a thing?
Definitely not.
There had to be something backing her up! Better be cautious.
Having come to this conclusion, vigilance rose sharply within Vyea’s heart as she began searching her memories for information about any strong individuals.
But after gathering everything she could recall,
Vyea still had no impression at all.
“Yeye, did you forget?”
Seeing Vyea frown deeply while staring at the black-dressed girl, looking troubled, Xiaolu finally spoke up to remind her:
“She’s that Magic Brave who’s always ranked Second Seat. A long, long time ago, she even tried to spar with you, but you ignored her and dodged the fight. Since then, this Magic Brave has been constantly thinking about surpassing you and beating you up.”
As she spoke, Xiaolu suddenly seemed to remember something and softly clicked her tongue, slapping her forehead in frustration:
“I almost forgot, Yeye, you haven’t kept up with the changes in the human world over these years. This Brave actually defected from the Capital two and a half years ago and vanished without a trace. No one knows why she suddenly showed up here, but since she came looking for you, she definitely has sinister intentions!”
“No memory at all.”
Honestly, Vyea had zero recollection of this Second Brave.
Back then, she had heard someone bored out of their mind wanted to spar with her. Vyea had always been clear-minded—why waste time on a pointless fight?
It didn’t give me any Experience.
Who even asked to spar with me?
Blocked. Blocked…
Vyea anxiously twirled her hair and suddenly changed her question: “She appeared out of nowhere? You didn’t see any sign?”
“No way. After all, I’m not as powerful as Red Sister.” Xiaolu spread her small hands helplessly. “There are still blind spots on the surveillance, and I’m mostly in charge of the Arbitration Office’s internal affairs. I don’t care what happens outside.”
No one wanted to be a donkey, and Xiaolu, the Artifact Spirit who worked for free year after year, definitely didn’t want to either.
If it weren’t for the pact signed with humans, Xiaolu would have already gone on strike, waiting for the next convergence to reboot.
Vyea always felt like Xiaolu was subtly blaming her for always meddling when she was a Brave, but could that be compared?
When she was a Brave, Vyea only needed to rush the Main Quest to level up quickly. She never had to suffer the so-called Heart’s Barrier bottleneck like other Braves.
She sped through the Main Quest, leveling up wildly, while earning reputation in the human cities… wasn’t that satisfying?
However.
A defected Official Brave… Vyea had never heard of or seen such a thing before.
From obtaining the Candidate Hero qualification, receiving the Divine Bestowal Mark to become an Official Hero, to subsequent Advancement, the trials were numerous.
Every successful Advancement meant the Brave’s understanding of their path was clearer, their conviction stronger.
Although Vyea hadn’t experienced those things during her Advancement,
A Brave defecting? What kind of hellish joke was that?
Forget it.
Don’t want to think about it anymore.
Just as Vyea was about to send the Night Watchman lying on the ground away,
She saw the black-dressed girl smiling, removing her staff—the magic broom she sat on—and aiming it in Vyea’s direction.
A blazing crimson light flickered at the top of the staff, and the temperature in the alley suddenly rose sharply.
Vyea immediately shifted gravity’s direction, flicking the Night Watchman away, while pressing down on the floating former Second Seat, who hovered several centimeters above the ground.
Bang!
The black-dressed girl, losing her balance, fell to the ground, and the charged Flame Flash Cannon from her staff missed, exploding against the red brick house behind Vyea.
Boom!!
The house, which had suffered no damage during the Goblin Horde rampage, now collapsed into ruins.
The black-dressed girl, rising from the ground, narrowed her eyes and locked gazes with Vyea from afar.
“The former Brave has become such a sight. How pitiful,” Vyea said softly, her delicate lips releasing words as cold and hard as iron:
“Has she been abandoned by her own conviction and become a stray dog wandering outside?”
“Hmm…?”
Surprise flashed briefly in the girl’s eyes. “So you know me? Then I can skip the introductions.”
I don’t. Introductions? Not interested.
To be cautious, Vyea said nothing and refrained from making a move.
Every extra second meant a little more Mana recovery inside her body.
Sigh. Back when I was a max-level Brave, my blue bar recovered thousands of times faster than now… how did it come to this? Vyea silently sighed in her heart.
Seeing Vyea’s silence, the black-dressed girl dusted herself off and smiled:
“But I am quite interested in you—someone with the power of authority… hmm, a human? Or maybe something else.” She tapped her lips and smiled sweetly at Vyea. “Could you please introduce yourself first?”
“First, I am human. Second, I am not interested in you.” Vyea’s expression was emotionless. “And I’m even less interested in a deserter on the battlefield.”
“Well, that’s truly a pity, making you disinterested again.”
The black-dressed girl’s lips curled into a mocking smile as she lifted her skirt slightly and gave a slight bow toward Vyea.
As if awakened to the fact that being a defected Brave was neither glorious nor praiseworthy.
“Actually, I used to be a fool full of justice too.”
But then her tone grew sad, as if enveloped in a thick, lingering fog of sorrow:
“Yes! People are always striving, learning, disguising themselves, evolving, trying to become noble and elegant.
But at the same time, they compare and hurt each other.
We think we’re different from the Monster World, but how much difference is there really between us and the Monster World?”
