In the end, she was threatened and taken away by Qin Haiyue.
Dressed in her finery, Qin Haiyue brought Ye Xingmian to a somewhat secluded road where a black sedan was already parked. The young girl didn’t know car models, but just looking at it, she could tell it was expensive.
Qin Haiyue smiled, walked in front of the girl, and pulled the car door open.
“Get in.”
Looking at the interior of the car, the girl suddenly felt a strong sense of unease. She hugged her arms, trembling.
“Where are you taking me…”
“I told you, to my house.”
“Really?”
Instinct told her that once she entered that car, there would be no turning back.
“Why are you talking so much? Get in already!” Qin Haiyue’s expression turned cold.
“But… but…” The girl was still afraid. If Qin Haiyue said she was taking her to her house, would they really go there? Was she trying to harm her? The girl had heard too many stories about human trafficking; she didn’t dare gamble on whether this was one of those cases…
Instead, before she could say anything else, she felt a sudden pain in her lower back. Her body fell uncontrollably into the car, sinking into the soft seat. The girl quickly realized she had been kicked inside by Qin Haiyue. She hurriedly turned her head, her messy hair obscuring her vision.
Those pink eyes were filled with physiological tears from the fright. She pursed her lips and consciously pulled her feet back inside from the door.
“Stop dawdling.” Qin Haiyue remained in the posture of having just kicked her, looking annoyed. Seeing that the girl was properly seated, she got into the car and sat down beside her.
“Fine, stop crying. It’s not like a footprint on those raggy clothes matters; they weren’t clean to begin with anyway.”
“I… I wasn’t crying…” the girl stammered in defense.
She didn’t feel bad for her clothes—no, actually she did, since she had spent so much effort washing them just yesterday. But more than that, she felt an inexplicable sense of grievance.
Tears quietly slid down her face again. She covered her eyes, not wanting the other girl to see. Seeing her like this, Qin Haiyue frowned.
“Drive, sir.”
“Yes, Miss.”
It wasn’t until then that Ye Xingmian belatedly noticed someone was actually sitting in the driver’s seat. After settling her emotions, she quietly opened her eyes. Through the rearview mirror, she saw a middle-aged man wearing sunglasses and earplugs. He seemed completely oblivious to her presence.
It seemed he was Qin Haiyue’s driver?
Did he just call Qin Haiyue… Miss? It felt like a term from a distant world. In her memory, the stereotype of a “Miss” was someone elegant, gentle, and cute. Qin Haiyue… didn’t look like that at all.
The girl peeked at Qin Haiyue. The other girl had her right elbow on the car window, her chin resting on her fist. Her expression was cold. It felt like Qin Haiyue wasn’t suited for smiling; her smile didn’t feel warm, but rather mean and sharp. Just like her eyes, they were a cold and heartless color.
“What are you looking at?”
Qin Haiyue suddenly turned her head to scold her. The girl quickly lowered her head, stammering.
“S-Sorry…”
“Humph.” With a cold snort, Qin Haiyue didn’t press the matter further. In the silent cabin, the scenery outside flew backward as they quickly left the bustling city and entered a luxurious wealthy district. Unlike the crowded markets, it was quiet here, filled with rows of villas and eye-catching greenery.
The girl had only heard of this place but had never been here before. Glancing briefly out the window, she felt sincerely nervous.
Soon, the car stopped in front of a secluded villa. Qin Haiyue got out on her own, and the girl hurriedly followed.
The driver rolled down the window and called out to Qin Haiyue, “Miss, I’ll pick you up at the usual time tomorrow.”
“Okay.” She waved, bidding the driver goodbye. Now, only Qin Haiyue and Ye Xingmian remained in front of the massive villa.
Looking back at the girl, Qin Haiyue wore an uncomfortable smile. She beckoned to her.
“Let’s go.”
Dazed, the girl looked around. Not a single person could be seen on this secluded main road, even though it was currently the evening rush hour. One could imagine how quiet it would be here at night.
At this point, she really had no room to regret her decision. She had to steel herself and follow Qin Haiyue inside.
Qin Haiyue walked in front, and she followed behind. Qin Haiyue opened the lock with facial recognition, and she followed through the door.
In the massive living room, the lights overhead turned on as soon as the door opened.
The girl had never seen such a large living room. Just the area alone looked several times larger than her adoptive parents’ entire home, let alone the magnificent decorations and smart home appliances. Was this what a villa was supposed to be like?
So Qin Haiyue had always lived in a place like this…
Whether it was envy or embarrassment, she couldn’t say. She felt very nervous. She had felt this way at the class monitor’s house, but here, she felt even more out of place.
“Get in.”
Glancing casually back at the girl who was still hesitating at the door, Qin Haiyue walked straight in.
By now, the girl knew her previous worries were mostly nonsense. Given the other girl’s economic status, she likely wouldn’t care for the pittance she could squeeze out of her. It wasn’t worth the risk. But she was still scared. Because of this, she was even more unable to guess what Qin Haiyue actually wanted.
Next, Qin Haiyue took the girl on a tour of the villa. From the magnificent living room to the standard private pool in the backyard. From the clean, high-end kitchen to the high terrace equipped with an astronomical telescope. Finally, she led her to her bedroom.
It was called a bedroom, but its area was more than several times that of the small attic the girl lived in. It had a private bathroom, and the large bed looked both sturdy and soft. After being led around, the girl was already a bit dazed. She couldn’t understand why Qin Haiyue had brought her here if it wasn’t to bully her. But what was the point of showing her around? To show off her wealth?
“How is it? Do you like it here?”
Sitting at her computer desk, Qin Haiyue spun her chair around and smiled. Her smile was more amiable than ever before, but in the girl’s eyes, it felt very out of place…
After walking for so long, the girl’s nervousness had mostly subsided. However, facing Qin Haiyue’s question, she still felt at a loss.
Should she say she liked it? If this were her own home, she would definitely like it. After all, who would give up a spacious and luxurious villa to live in a dark, narrow attic full of junk? But this was Qin Haiyue’s home…
