Anderson walked into the interior of the library.
The interior of the library didn’t look like an assassin’s base at all. It was so ordinary that it was almost impossible to notice anything suspicious.
But for a veteran like Anderson, he quickly found something off.
There were too few people in the library.
The bookshelves were thick with dust, as if they had never been cleaned.
If Lewis was only guessing, Anderson could almost be certain that this was the Moon Shadow Society’s base.
“Please don’t wander around, sir.”
The library staff saw Anderson fully armed, but their expressions showed no panic.
One even stepped forward and asked.
“Apologies, Sir Knight. I was rude just now. May I ask what business you have?”
Anderson looked at the two of them and said.
“Is that area off-limits?”
“Well… that area is not open to the public. But if you, Sir Knight, wish to enter, we can make an exception.”
“Alright.”
Anderson nodded, then ignored the two and walked deeper into the library.
The two stared at each other for a moment, then whispered.
“What do we do? The Temple Knights, those hyenas, are on our tail.”
“Don’t panic. He’s alone. The worst case, we kill him and dispose of the body.”
Their voices were low, but Anderson heard every word.
His expression unchanged, he continued deeper.
There were still many staff inside, but Anderson knew they were all Moon Shadow Society members.
Their eyes lingered on him, as if wary and watchful.
After some time, a woman with glasses approached Anderson and said.
“Sir Knight, are you looking for the library director? I’ll show you the way.”
Seeing her take the initiative, Anderson almost laughed but nodded and said.
“Alright.”
So he followed the woman to the third floor of the library.
Soon, they arrived at a mahogany door—the director’s office.
“Our director is inside.”
The woman opened the door for Anderson and gestured for him to enter.
He didn’t stand on ceremony and strode inside.
Inside the office was only a middle-aged man.
His gaze was like a hunting eagle’s—sharp and piercing, as if it could cut through skin.
He swept his eyes over Anderson, then let out a low chuckle and said.
“A Judgment Executor of the Temple Knights graces my humble library. What brings you here?”
Seeing that the other party recognized him, Anderson said calmly.
“I have no business with the library, but I do have business with the Moon Shadow Society.”
“Oh?”
The director raised an eyebrow.
“There’s no Moon Shadow Society here, Chief Justice. You must have the wrong place.”
“Is that so?”
Anderson sneered at him.
Ever since he entered this office, he had sensed four murderous gazes.
The four people were hiding in the shadows, their strength considerable.
A normal Judgment Executor might not be able to handle them.
But to Anderson, their strength was nothing.
“Stop pretending. Your tails are showing.”
Anderson gripped the handle of his Knight Sword, ready to draw at any moment.
Seeing Anderson’s attitude, the director dropped his feigned smile, frowned, and said coldly.
“I know there are Temple Knights outside. But you’re charging into our encirclement alone. Aren’t you afraid of death?”
“You don’t have the skill to kill me.”
Anderson met his gaze without flinching.
The two stared each other down for a moment, then the director waved his hand at the four assassins in the shadows.
“Stand down.”
The four gazes vanished.
The middle-aged man continued.
“Since you already know, I’ll drop the act. I’m Xiong Ying, a Platinum Killer of the Moon Shadow Society. I manage this place. Judgment Executor, state your purpose.”
Xiong Ying could tell Anderson had another agenda—he wasn’t like those hotheaded Temple Knights who started fighting at the sight of an assassin.
So he tried to negotiate.
Anderson took the opportunity to ask.
“Do you know an assassin called Red Sparrow?”
“Oh?”
Xiong Ying perked up at the mention of Ainola’s alias.
“Of course I do. That assassin has thrown several noble families in Hail City into panic. How could I not know her?”
Anderson pulled out the key mold he had found in the tavern.
“I found this in the ruins of the Lavender Tavern. Before this, Red Sparrow stole the key from me. I want to know: is she connected to you?”
Xiong Ying secretly pondered Anderson’s intent.
‘It seems he’s not here for the Moon Shadow Society, but for that Red Sparrow?’
“She has nothing to do with us—in fact, she’s our enemy,” Xiong Ying said, organizing his words. “The Lavender Tavern was also our base. That woman burned it down along with over thirty of our brothers.”
“I see.”
Anderson nodded.
Xiong Ying pressed his advantage.
“She’s now working under the Fengting Association. We saw her moving with their assassins with our own eyes. They say the enemy of my enemy is my friend. Chief Justice, if you have a grudge against Red Sparrow, why don’t we cooperate and find her whereabouts?”
“That’s not a bad idea…” Anderson drew his Knight Sword. “But I refuse.”
Facing Anderson’s action, Xiong Ying frowned and threatened.
“Don’t reject a toast only to be forced to drink a forfeit. Chief Justice, you should understand: you’re surrounded right now. The Temple Knights outside might not be able to save you.”
As he spoke, the four assassins who had been hiding in the dark appeared behind Xiong Ying.
At the same time, the sound of many footsteps came from outside the door.
Just from the noise, it was clear there were a lot of people.
To Xiong Ying, though he couldn’t gauge Anderson’s strength, his experience told him that most Judgment Executors were only at the Transcendent Rank.
Nothing to fear.
